What did you learn as a JW that helps you in your work today

note: if you are cautious about being outted then be very careful what you post.. the biggest thing i learned was sign language.

after i left i had a few jobs interpreting.. public speaking - didn't help me at all - that could be because speaking to someone else on the platform doesn't gives women an opportunity to address the audience.

i took a intro course in public speaking that was far better than 22 years of the ministry school.. i'm thinking .

Being a JW from birth, and thus, it being my PRIMARY introduction to intrapersonal relationships,.....(drumroll)......taught me what kind of people I SHOULD avoid.

Dating and the ex-JW

i am still surfing around this forum and i am happy to see there is are topics related to relationships.

it is nice to see this here.. to be honest, ever since i was out of the jw religion, i have tossed over ever dating an ex jw or an inactive jw.

i have occasionally come across this situation and weighed both the pros and cons.

hard to find "in" relationship while inactive

i was out of the truth and in a relationship for 4 years.

i didn't go to the meetings at all, my bf lived with me, and we celebrated holidays.

i never stopped believing the truth.

Hi NYCgirl,

Wow! I can REALLY relate to how you feel. However, I have probably been questioning the JW doctrine more than you, it seems. That said, for the sake of still having a GREAT family that is still "in" and aware of many of my concerns & being understanding about it, I am still struggling about what path to take. This religion is all I have ever know, and, like you, I still find "worldly" holidays distasteful.

And add to that concern, trying to raise children (I have none) with a future mate boggles my mind. Like me, you will have to find someone like yourself: someone that understands the past history of being a JW....and THEN, go through the dating process to see if you are even compatible with that person (butterflies, as you call it).

Honestly, I am grateful in ways to have been raised a JW....with some downsides. The upside is never smoking, trying drugs, no child support or STDs. The downside is social awkwardness and playing catchup to everyone else as regards to understanding and being able to "read" people successfully (trustworthy or not,etc.).

In short, I would reevaluate & "make sure" of what you have been taught, and if then, you still want to at least find a "drifter" like yourself, make sure you are on the same page on things because, IMHO, you can STILL live in a "divided household" even while BOTH being "inactive believers", regardless of how much you "believe". You could be comfortable (like myself) with being "inactive" but still avoiding holidays,smoking,incessant patriotism and such, while letting the "no-no"s such as the blood issue and voting slide, but THEN, one day, your husband decides to get "active" again and now you have to deal with the "truth" being his number one priority instead of you. Believe me, I have had experience with this.

I admit, it's a hard thing to find....what we are individually looking for. Just decide what YOU want & the rest will follow.

who remembers this talk on the dc from (i think) two years ago?

this was one of the proverbial straws that broke my back.....and helped result in my ass heading for the door!.

Who remembers this talk on the DC from (I think) two years ago? This was one of the proverbial straws that broke my back.....and helped result in my ASS heading for the door!

Does anyone save programs from these things? I'm trying to remember the name of the talk. It basically was trying to say that, while "some" concern for your health is warranted,

being too "fixated" on it could cause worry and take your attention from the "more important things", namely, busting your ass on ice in the winter, scorching your ass in the

summer, and generally screwing your body up from all the take-out and junk food on the run from never having time to eat a healthy meal on the endless meeting nights!

Does anyone relate to this?
