To my friends that are not in the US: Do you get this kind of propaganda?
by CaptainSchmideo ini know a lot of brits, aussies, canadians, etc, always marvel at the arrogance, haughtiness, and cockiness of us tourists visiting their countries.
or how mainstream us citizens just fall in line with anything that comes out of the government's mouth, accept any policy as "good", believe all that stuff about how "america is the greatest nation on earth!"..
how it gets ingrained into the being of most us citizens?.

I'm not saying to swallow up everything that's said in this film as the gospel. But don't swallow up everything the American government says either.....or for that matter what any government says.
They use the media, fear tactics, etc to sway the public's opinion. Love your country! i love america. it's awesome, i lived there for 8 years, my grandparents are naturalized americans. but don't believe it can do no evil.
It's like a child thinking their parents can do no evil until they grow up and see the parent is after all a human being like the rest of humanity. Doesn't mean he'll start hating his parent. He'll just have a more balanced view.
Keeping informed and looking at things with a critical eye is not being a cynic. It's just being careful and not having blind faith in anything that you haven't first thoroughly processed and approved by your own logic.
Something i'm sure we can all say that we failed to do at some time in our life....hint hint. -

"Makes me think how easily we could turn back the clock a few decades to the bad times of 40's and 50's, when Constitutional rights didn't apply to everyone in the US.
They don't!!!
Oh, wait, that's Today!"
There you go...... -

Share one or two interesting things about you we probably didn't know
by Gopher inwe have such an interesting group of people from around the world on this board.
it might be interesting to have a thread where you discuss a hobby, something interesting that happened in the past, somewhere you've been, etc.. not deep, dark confessions - just interesting stuff.. .

Do You Have Any Mixed Emotions Since Leaving The Witnesses?
by minimus ini don't necessarily look back bitterly over everything i've missed.
i feel no desire, no missing of the 'friends", the "organization", the "brotherhood".
i've accepted that life goes on and i must learn from the past.

a ex jw friend of mine from my old congregation told it to me like this:
i said " don't you ever miss the brothers we knew?"
he said "yeah...kind of like the way i miss my friends from high school. I miss them but wouldn't go back to high school to be with them.
I said 'that's an interesting way of looking at it.'
He said ' when it was time i just left.like graduation.'
I said 'well i was kicked out!!'
he said ' good for you. disfellowshipped. that's like graduating with honors!!' -

My meeting with the elders.. I TOTALLY WIMPED OUT
by AWAKE&WATCHING ini agreed to speak to 2 elders from the congregation that i was in from when i started my bible study in 1979 to when i disassociated myself in 1990. i was in the same congregation when i got re-instated in 2001 until i got married and moved to another congregation (30 miles away) a year later.
when i left my husband in aug. of this year i had already quit going to meetings for about 4 months.
i moved back to the same town i lived in before, of course never going to the hall.. i talked to them because i wanted closure for myself and my best friend and also my husband, both of them thought if i would just have the meeting with the elders that i would be re-adjusted.

i've tried to have that closure you speak of in the same way with some people i know. But it's useless. Most often i always ended up frustrated and they were stronger than ever.
maybe they'll come back and visit you and you'll have a clearer mind to tell them what you really think. -

have you found it difficult?
by 4digitcode into make friends since you're out of the organization?
maybe these things take time.
it's hard to establish new friendships when ones i had for years floated away in an instant.

i agree shopaholic. it's just too weird saying you were in a cult. Although i did once and the response was..'oh really?'.....i said 'yeah but i got kicked out!'.... he then said 'ROCK N' ROOOOLL'.......so hey
