  i want to wish everyone a happy juneteenth.

  some of you are probably are scratching your heads and wondering, "what the hell is juneteenth?

  Dear Lisa,

  First of all it was NOT supposed to end up where it did and secondly I figured out how to change it from one catagory to the appropriate catagory. I was disappointed that it ended up in the "jokes and humor" catagory and kinda blew my top at Simon ( my apologies, Simon). I take my Black history too damned serious to joke about it.

  I am sad that three people died needlessly in the midst of all the shootings in Detroit at the start of the Juneteenth Festival. It is Very disheartening that our race (human) is still in BONDAGE to VIOLENCE. I, however; refuse to believe that we cannot free ourselves from this bondage. Right now there is a nationwide movement known as Victory Over Violence that is spearheaded by young people to help us to learn how to free ourselves from the BONDAGE of VIOLENCE. Please feel free to check out the website at http://www.victoryoverviolence.com Eventhough this is sponsered by SGI-USA (a Buddhist organization) we are hopeful that MANY people will join the Victory Over Violence movement.

  I want to wish everyone a HAPPY JUNETEENTH. Some of you are probably are scratching your heads and wondering, "What the hell is Juneteenth?"

  African-American slaves in Texas never found out that they were free until June 19, 1865 which is a little over a year and a half after the emancipation proclaimation as signed by then President Lincoln. This is the Reader's Digest version of how Juneteenth came to be. This also marks my one month's anniversary of coming to this board which incidently is Malcolm X's birthday (May 19th ).

  i don't know if anyone has posted on this already but there is a new press release at http://www.jw-media.org/releases/default.htm?content=bg_molestation.htm that defines the current jw policy and i believe it has taken a step in the right direction!.

  although they have not literally changed it to require reporting to the authorities in all states, they have finally put into print the following: "additionally, the victim may wish to report the matter to the authorities, and it is his or her absolute right to do so.".

  i am glad to see, straight from the wt, acknowledgement that the adults involved have every right to go to the police.

  I understand and RESPECT your concern. I am an X-JW but now am a member of sgi-usa a Buddhist organization that places great importance on heart to heart dialogue in an effort to create world peace. Whether or not you believe me is not anything that I can do something about. You have to search your own heart whether my words are true or not. The important thing is for me is that I KNOW they are. Please feel free to browse the site www.sgi-usa.org. Perhaps this will give you a good understanding about who I am and what I am about.

  SGI-USA is a Buddhist organization that promotes world peace based on each individual's right to become happy. It is an organization that practices the chanting of NAM MYO-HO REN-GE KYO. To give a short translation it means "I DEVOTE myself to the UNIVERSAL LAW of CAUSE & EFFECT through SOUND OR VIBRATION. No, we DO NOT employ statues of the Buddha but rather a scroll which is a document that states that every individual has a RIGHT to be happy and NO ONE can take that from you.

  i was reading in the book of a genesis today and came across an interesting set of scriptures, genesis 21:17-21. it talks about how after abraham sent hagar and ishmael from her house, hagar wandered about in the wilderness and finally, after running out of water, sat down with her baby ishmael and prepared to die.

  gods angel then appeared to hagar and told her to rise up, and that ishmael would be the father to a great nation.

  he then led her to water and hagar and ishmael and she lived a prosperous life in the wilderness of paran.
