I love you even though you don't love me.
Nothing like cheap emotional blackmail to help you come to your senses..please!!!! this is obviously a letter written up by a screwed up JW...I'm sorry, but my mother would never send me a letter like that....I'm so sorry for you..but isn't this the woman who told your son his father wasn't your husband??? i would expect nothing from this woman. in fact, next time she sends you something, don't even bother to open it..She does not deserve your time, hun.......many many hugs!!!!!!

Is Being A Jehovah's Witness a Mental Disorder?
by Amber Rose infrequently i have seen the subject of borderlind personallity disorder mentioned on this board.
many people here feel that friends or relatives display many of the charactaristics of the disorder.
people with histories of abuse seem to be drawn to this religion.

I think you need to seperate from what you would like to believe ( a paradise earth that will solve all your problems) and the real truth....that this is the only life there is and it doesn't have to be such a horrible one if you make a conscious effort to be happy in it...please don't wait for an outward force to solve your problems..i assure you this will only lead to desillusionment...when you are depressed it's easy to want someone else to make it all better..I'm sure if you investigate any other religion such as the mormons, adventists, pentecostal, catholics or whatever they will offer you some similar "hope" that basically is the same spiel....the day will come when all your worries will be over...there is no difference between these religions and the Jehovah's witnesses...the more you look into this the more you will realize it..I wish you the best of luck....

Those wicked worldly people
by Paralipomenon inwell twenty days ago, my wife decided to check things out and start reading and posting here.
i thought i'd give a bit of an update on how things are going because she's still quite reluctant to create a new topic herself.
she has been reading alot of older posts on the forums and getting caught up, that has led to a few topics or comments by me that she's questioned me on.

I had this friend from school when I was a teenager whose parents practically adopted me..I ate thanksgiving dinner with them..I was always welcome in their home and always treated with respect..I loved them alot!!! I learned then that worldly people aren't evil...I'm glad I did..It's wonderful that your neighbors are so supportive...I'm sure that is exactly what your wife needs right now...

Jehovah's Witnesses Today & Yesterday
by minimus injws today are not like the ones i knew when i was growing up.
we used to look down upon those that didn't make all of the meetings and regularly go out in service every weekend!
if someone was not in the theocratic ministry school----what was wrong with them???

So true...In fact now you have to beg to get df'ed....I mean you usually get reproved...Most witnesses I know vacation for weeks and don't go to meetings..I'm talking elders and their families...and where I live it's definitely encouraged to study after school at least technical things because unemployment is so high. But i know several kids who were in my hall that go to University....I know many of my old JW friends are "modern witnesses"..they take what they like and filter the rest....many have association with non jw's...I guess they're becoming more balanced?????????????? And nobody goes through music anymore like when I was a kid..All the kid in my old hall listen to whatever they like...Even had some marriages to unbelievers and it's been no big deal...hmmm..makes you wonder.....

OMG!!! that was the longest post ever!!!! so just let me ask one question...if Jehovah is sooooooooo loving and wants us to be happy, etc...why is he going to destroy 90% of the population in Armageddon, including children, old people, women, men, etc???? And as far as receiving the power beyond what is normal..many people who experience difficult things overcome them and some don't even believe in God.. so let's not attribute all good things to Jehovah...I mean if I over come my depression it's due mostly to prozac...not Jehovah...If I get a new job it's because I worked hard not because I was "blessed"...How do you know that these things are from Jehovah??? I think you suffer from taking the placebo pill too long..you credit Jah for all these things but in the end it's just you out there.....

I have three kids myself and I worry alot about them ..having said this, I think you should reconsider the approach you are taking with your 14 year old...you cannot control all the circumstances around him or you will raise a person who is unable to make decisions on his own and exercise his thinking ability. Provide him with the information and let him decide for himself who is good association and who is not. It is a skill he will have to know the rest of his life so better start practicing now with some guidance...

I don't know if people with mental disorders gravitate toward the witnesses..but as a person brought up in the organization I believe that it can cause mental disorders like depression..starting from the fact that you can never do enough..you are always sub standard..there are constant comparisons being done..to elders, pioneers, etc....and of course the best part is the guilt factor..I can't tell you how being inactive has relieved me of so much anxiety because of being able to throw away that burden of guilt..guilt for missing the meetings, guilt for sleeping in on sunday, guilt for not commenting, guilt for not preparing, guilt for not reading the daily text, GUILT, GUILT, GUILT!!!! I can see this same feeling in my active brothers and sisters..to the point that some don't feel worthy of being in the organization...It's ridiculous!!! So I say yes..being raised in the organization can make you nuts!!!!!!!!

Is JWD a healthy place to be for those who have left the Watchtower?
by AK - Jeff ineveryday, that i read, write, think and talk about the watchtower society makes me think whether or not i have really left it for good.. .
i fail to see the good in reliving the past in this way.
the discussion board features individuals that have 3 to 6 years on the board and individuals who have left the organization more.

I can only speak for myself...But I really like this forum because when you grow up surrounded just by witnesses and their thinking alot of times you doubt your own sanity...it's nice to know that i'm not crazy...that actually we were the thinking group of the group...I also like reading others experiences because it gives me some insights on how other people experienced the organization as opposed to me...I spend alot of time on the internet in general because I work in fornt of a computer and hace access to it. I hardly watch TV. so the whole wasted time theory is very relative...but I also have friends outside the organization and I'm making new friends..so I don't consider it my only social outlet by far.....People who post here for a long time probably would do that with any forum that interests them. I have friends who post on car forums who have been members for years...i don't think it's a symptom of not moving on...
