O.k. I read the blog. Very well written IMO. I didn't find it hateful or anything Apostate like in the way most Jw's think. I was really suprised at the friends comments though. I mean one thing has nothing to do with the other. I was also raised in a great family but that doesn't hide the fact that their are pedophiles in the organization and that they dealt with them much like other religions who they criticize deal with pedophiles. They hid the fact from the congregations and in some cases just privately reproved the individuals. I find it EXTREMELY hypocritical. If you've grown up as a JW you know how much the priests sexually abusing children was played up to show how onle we had the true religion. It's a huge isue. Anyways, sad to see how your friend cannot seperate the good people from the full of shit organization.. Sorry i couldn't comment on myspace. I closed my account. Hence the super long comment now. I'm venting here I guess..But I would of had an awesome comment for your blog..ha!!!

God and Evolution
by BurnTheShips induring the second half of the nineteenth century, it became common to speak of a war between science and religion.
but over the course of the twentieth century, that hostility gradually subsided.
science should not try to become religion, nor should religion seek to take the place of science.

Funny thing about the mormons. Don't mean to sidetrack here, but I had some visting me for a while. I guess with the three kids I was a great future mormon prospect. And still in the age to breed another half a dozen...ha!

I think was was taken today
by Elsewhere ini was walking to my car after work, it was very cold (low 40's f) and getting dark and a beggar woman walks up to me sobbing and crying about being cold.
she didn't want to go through another very cold night light last night (low 30's f) and she needed money to get into a local shelter.
yes, it costs $12 per night to get into a homeless shelter... that's texas for ya.

I don't know how it works in the U.S. but where I live children are rented by adults to ask for money. So I've become probably a bit more harsh about giving money outright to a beggar. Plus they are EVERYWHERE....I mean you give to one, and on the next corner there is another with another heartwrenching story. I think some good advice is to do what one poster said. Give food, contact the shelter..Cover your bases. Don't just give money. I can't tell you the amount of times I've been asked for money by people who reek of booz....I think you did a good thing but maybe so that their is no doubt in your mind, make shelter arrangements yourself for someone in need.

The Positive Thread
by Superfine Apostate inpost something positive.. .
i'll make the start: after years of fading, my believing wife stopped attending the meetings also and i no longer have to be careful about what i'm talking about when hanging around with the rest of my jw friends.
for me this is quite an achievement and i'm happy with it.. .

Just got a response from an interview I went to for a second interview....I asked my oldest if he missed being a witness and he said no!!!! the meetings, the service, he's so happy he doesn't have to do these things anymore. And I see them so much happier. I never realized how not being ablt to celebrate and be part of a group had such a hindering affect on him. But sunny days are here again!

I prefer "sticks and stones"...
by changeling ini can mend from a broken bone much easier than from a broken sprit.. they say "actions speak louder than words", but we are trapped in cyber space where all we have are words.. so if our words are cruel, we have no body language or eye contact to soften the blows.. i do appreciate some concialiatory gestures i've seen around here.
they will go a long way to keeping this board friendly and "safe" for all of us.. here is a "jewel" favorite of mine:.

Changeling, I can tell you are a very sensitive and sweet, kind person. The things you say you say genuinely and sincerely and with the best of intentions. At times we must develope a tough skin because not everyone has learned to express themselves with tact. I myself am a bit detached and I usually surround myself with frank often blunt people. So I'm "curtida". I know you know what that means....Don't let it get to you. We know what you are made of. Your spirit shines through in what you write. I didn't even waste my time posting on that other thread.

I remember a time in the 80's when it was really discouraged. But I've founf that as time has gone by many more couples in my area are opting for having kids. I guess they are sick of waiting. And I haven't really heard anything lately discouraging it. When I was pregnant with my last child, their were 4 other women also pregnant..LOL!!!!
