truly an amazing artist and songwriter of our time has been van morrison .
from the time he started in the 60's till today, he continues to pump out soulful, bluesy, great tunes, not only as a vocalist, but as an accomplished musician as well !
what are your all time favorite songs by him ?
My all time favorite is "Into the Mystic"
Van Morrison is great!

i know of quite a few that did , some have never been found out , are they asked by the elders before the wedding if they have done it ?
Don't know anyone.. but what a fun fantasy that could be.. although I'de prefer a turn of the century Catholic alter! Bless me father for I have sinned!

well - i had been wanting to do this for a long time , to question a legal department representative at bethel about the child abuse settlements and jw child abuse, since last year when the news came out about it.
especially since my dad , an elder for years was never aware of it and has on his own taken steps to see that families with children are informed if a former pedophile is in their congregation.
i was curious as to what the current views and policies in place are .
Thank you Flipper, I am sure they won't tell me what I want to hear, but I will say what I need too!
I had deleted my post.. but shall repost the part deleted................
I was recently given the number for them from a good friend here on the board, and am going to make my own call to them very soon.
I have first hand knowledge of a situation where the elders did not make a report to the police, nor warn the congregation of an abuser. My younger sister went to the Elders way back in 1978/79, there was an elders meeting where the abuser did confess and profess repentance to them. Their decision was to allow this person to remain a member with no punishment, but to simply stay away from my sister. There was no police report made, and when the gossip started circulating around the hall, the family, including himself said it was all lies. When my sisters future mother in law spoke out and said, No, its not lies, she was actually reproved and although a very faithful sister, was not allowed to go out in service or answer in the meetings for six months. Its a shame the victims were punished and not the abuser.
This is how they handle things, and I still want an answer from them on this as well as other answers on other issues.
Thank you again Flipper for making the call you made!

i've been out for nearly 3 years now.
i live in the territory but not once has jehovah witnesses knocked on my door - i haven't even seen them preaching in the area - or perhaps it's because i'm never at home in the mornings any longer.. if you have been called on, or offered magazine too - what do you say?.
.
I have never seen a live JW at my door yet, although I've lived here for 2 years. There was a tract left in my door though regarding the Wild Beast! I would though like to see them come to my door, as I would like to say a few things to them.. diplomatically of course.

before i start, i know a lot of you will say for me to consult an attorney, but just wanted to see if any of you have had to deal with this..... i have primary custody of my son.
my ex was ordered to pay child support the first of each month.
well i hardly ever see a dime of it unless i call him and have to bitch him out to send the state a payment for child support.
In this situation, unless the father is endangering the safety of the child, I would never interfere with the child/parent relationship. It is very important for the child to have as much of a relationship with the father or mother as can be had.
I do understand the frustration and justified disgust over someone who does not help support their child, as I have experienced the same thing for many years now. Our child was planned, but the father still ended up a dead beat in that area.
I do know, that regardless of what is right and wrong in child support payments, it would damage my child, or any other child more to not have a relationship with their parent. So, for this reason, I just bite my frustration down, and have always made the father welcome. It's not for my benefit, it's for my child, whether I like him or not.

you know, i knew a lot of bethelites and every one of them loved their booze.
as an elder, i would entertain alot of the cos, dos and bethelites and their wives.
it was not unusual for the wives to get loaded while they were at my house!
Where I grew up, there was always alot of drinking going on at get togethers. The worst culprit for over drinking that I had ever seen was this arrogant, holier than thou elder who was the one who dissasociated me as a teen. Some kind of example he was.. or shall I say.. Hypocrite!

i have recently talked with other members on jwd about the first time they went to a concert.
it was interesting the different choices of artists, and the age we were when we finally went to one.. my first was after i got my driver's license, so i was 16 years old.
i went to see a concert with black oak arkansas, foghat, and montrose (when sammy hagar was just a pup).
My first concert was Billy Idol & The Cult at age 21... Awesome Concert! The Cult though.. took the show in my mind..
