I wish the nightmares would stop.

do any of you have nightmares as a result of the jw religion.

i haven't been to any meetings in 17 years but i have nightmares a couple times a month about the whole thing.

in my dreams the scenario will be i am at an assembly or a meeting against my will and everyone is ignoring me and some are glaring at me and i am trying to leave but for some reason i can't get out of the building.

I had reacurring nightmares for years with the same theme, every now and then even now I will still have them, but thankfully not often.

In my dreams I would find myself in a large building of some sort, with what seemed like hundereds of people milling about around me. Everyone I knew in my life were always present in these dreams. I would walk through them speaking to them, but no one would ever respond to me. I would become more upset in my dream as I ran through the crowd of people, desperate because I realized they couldn't see me. I felt like I was running lost through a maze and would run up to faces I knew, saying "can't you see me", answer me. Each time I ran up to someone and was not seen, I would become more desperate and frantic, and would always wake up with my heart racing and a deep feeling of fear and sadness that always took some time to shake off before I could go back to sleep again.

It took a long time for me to finally understand what the dreams meant, as I didn't associate them with being shunned at first. After seeing a psychologist and sharing the theme of the dreams, we figured out why and worked on way's to calm myself upon waking. I am thankful that these dreams are few and far between now, as when they do occur, I still experience the same initial frenetic feelings, but at least now when I wake up I am able to use rational thought and soothe myself much faster.

Getting the forum back on track

recently we seem to have had a few different dramas and subsequent fallout on the fourm which i feel has detracted from its purpose.

with this in mind we have decided that we need to bring the forum back on track and as such we will be clamping down on a lot of the aggressive / insulting posts which have begun to become the norm for a few people.

we will also be clamping down on the paranoid assusation type of comments against newbies, if someone joins the fourm and you do not believe everything they post - so what, why do we need to hound them away with shouts of troll and fake etc, just ignore them if you dont beleive them.

Thank you Simon. I am still somewhat a newbie.. and after lurking and seeing all the drama that has happened here.. I have been afraid to post. I have in the past received so much support, but after seeing so many attacked.. I have been afraid to just speak my mind. . whether it be in support of others or just needing to be heard.

All of us have had our own experiences after leaving.. all experiences being unique. Some of us move forward faster than others.. and some of us not. I am of the "not" crowd. I hope that all newcomers are accepted openly.. and heard.

A reminder to the oldies.. some of us are still searching.. confused and needing support to finalize the departure moment in are minds even if the departure happend years ago. All the newbies are in need of that unconditional support that was never received while being in. Perhaps we have wierd ideas.. and still stuck in the mind set of the JW indoctrination.. but we know it.. and only want support.

Joy Or Sorrow When You First Found Out It Was False?

for me, it was joy.

i was raised in the religion, and i always figured i'd be dying along with 6 billion others because i hated the meetings, the preaching work and the rules, morality and threats of 'jehovah'.

i did not want it to be true.. for others here, finding out it was false was a hard time to go through.. as well as asking which feelings you had at first (joy/sorrow/or add your own) i have a follow up question for those who found it hard- what was it that made the impending deaths of 6 billion people okay for you?

I was truly heartbroken. I was raised to believe it all. I lived it.. book studies in the home.. ect ect. Many years later.. after leaving at age 20.. and now 42.. I am finally coming to grips with it all. Finally.. now.. life can move on.. but a long journey.

i knew, and i am beginning to think i was right.

several shrinks and therapists later, and i realize that my entire life structure is not only gone, but it was a farce in the first place.

how do you cope with that?

Yes, I knew it when I left, but the emotional fallout lasted years. That is what those raised within a cult feel. It takes hard work.. pain.. and regaining one's own inner self too finally let it go. It is alot of hard personal work to get there, and I am not totally there yet, but I am getting there.

For me it has come in stages.. many painful stages. After being controlled mentally, emotionally, spiritually and even physically for so long within this cult, it takes a strong personal inner drive to move forward to rid oneself of all the controlling messages that sit deep within our souls still controlling us as individuals.

I wish for all who struggle to find that warrior spirit within them to fight it! Fight the messages that were indococtrinated into you. That is the only way out.

For those struggling.. take a look at yourself. Realize, you are a good person. Forget the messages taught.

For me.. I had to come to a realization.. I am a good person.. and if some creator/higher power doesnt see it.. then ok.. fine.. I will still live for me as best as I can. Being the best I can be. Who can expect more than that?

I also love Gregorian Chants.. and I don't think that is wierd at all.. its peacefully beautiful to me.

What might be considered the wierdest though is Depeche Mode.. an old 80's group. I still like them.
