You should start saving for retirement!!!

this was the advice given me on sunday by my jw dad.

i was telling him about a chance i have take a paperless stock option.. he encouraged me to put money in a safer investment, so "i would have enough to retire on.

" i told him i started saving around 95, after the generation change watchtower.

It’s funny how the borg “Armageddon any time now” programming is so embedded. In 1987 I moved from my home state, started a new job, and stopped going to meetings. At one level I had made the break and abandoned the tower and it’s teachings, or so I thought.

In that year I was offered a chance to join the company 401k plan. I declined, and for a number of years thereafter did not save a dime for retirement. Now I find myself playing catch-up and it’s all because the deeply entrenched jw programming caused me to “reason” it would be foolish to save for the future. Now how foolish is that!

Being part of a cult is a dangerous thing. It’s a danger to your health, to your happiness, and to your future. Please learn from my example.

Does God define "right and wrong" or is there an intrinsic 'good' ?

i don't personally believe in a 'god' but i wonder for those who do .... is there an intrinsic "right and wrong" or moral code that would exist whether or not there was a god?.

to put it another way, is what we believe is "right or wrong" based on whatever god decides is right or wrong (ie.

he set's the standard) or is it an intrinisc thing that he also must adhere to in order to be thought of as 'good'.. if god has to adhere and go along with some intrinsic value system then does this effect any claims to be omnipotent and always good?

I would hope that it is not the god of the bible that defines the standard of what is good or bad because the examples of the god of love set forth in this book are quite malevolent to say the least.

You know the god of the bible, the god of love, don’t you?

He is the one who orders the annihilation of people wholesale including young children and infants and gets very pissed when some are spared. He is the one who declares his servant righteous when he proceeds to hand his own daughters over to a crowd to be gang-raped.

Is it not amazing that the average godless atheist holds to a much higher standard of conduct then the so-called god of love himself? Is it not amazing?

it's bookmarked with the current week's study material; anf frankly, if anything can reinforce my inclination to stay away, it's this drivel.

does it not dawn on any of these that all this hallucinogenic blather about 1918, 1919, 1922, etc.

The most scary aspect about this is that these men, the governing body, literally have the life, death, and general welfare of millions of people in their hands and that down to the single individual witness, each will emphatically swear that there are no leaders in the Watchtower.

If these men would simply ask witnesses to forego their proper education, a reasonable standard of living, and in some cases sacrifice their very lives and the lives of their children the rank and file witness would do so without hesitation. And how do we know this? Because so many already have!

Are JW kids really better that Christendom's or even the world's?

i dont mean to put down my cousin but if she and her boyfriend (now husband) have been loyal jws all their lives why is it that he was arrested for cocaine posession, (he was actually trafficking while a jw!!!!

)she got knocked up by him, and then they got married by a judge instead of an elder.

do these sound like jw kids or do they sound like the real jw kids that you dont see on the poster or cover of awake.

Are JW kids better then the worlds or Christendom’s? I can’t let that statement pass without challenge because that is the essence of the JW mindset pure and simple, that they are somehow apart from the rest of the other groups claiming to be the true God Squad.

DNA and Man's origin

i think as time goes on and dna gets understood better and better it will be imposible for fundamental christians to defend thier position against evolution.

kind of like the catholic church going against galileio saying the "earth is not the center of the universe".. "eventually"(maybe not now) to fight against the evidence makes you look very stupid and under heavy mind control.. don't get me wrong i beleive there is a god, and i think he used "gradualism" to create the universe and life, i even feel the first 2 chapter of genesis are discribing a very long drawn out process that took just as evolutionist are telling us, billions of years till finally man appears.. eventually the wt is going to have to change its understanding of genesis to even stay credible..

The fact that we find the same error code in our DNA and what are zoologically close animals speaks volumes about our shared heritage. We literally are cousins, but are not necessarily direct descendents of our furry friends.

Another telling manifestation of our commonality is in the way we get sick, grow old, and die. My 10-year-old purebred Black Lab is getting around the chin these days. Funny, I seem to be getting a bit gray too.
