i am starting this thread since low-key lysmith and momzcrazy were very surprised they are here on jwd on my thread about what congregations they have attended in their lifetime, so who knows we might be surprised for more online reunions.

the recent thread about the 1975 after effects (fall off in members) got me to thinking about the ratio of hardcore, "can't kill 'em with a stick", witnesses to the marginal, "spiritually weak", followers.
for all the backtracking and double talk old freddy caused the gb with his 1975 'vision', they learned a lot about the make up of their followers and were reassured that they have a hardcore majority base that will always be there.
my guess is it is around 80/20.
I'm not sure the overall percentage that would drink, but I know this for a fact: My mom would donate the punchbowls in which to mix the koolaid and then call me to load the 8-foot tables and the punchbowls into her car so she could take them to the hall.
so i just found this site last night.
is everyone here someone who used to be a jw?
i used to be one wow 17 years ago.
Last year my wife's mom lost her battle with cancer in the early part of December. She was the glue that held the family together to celebrate the holidays. When that Christmas rolled around we pretty much just handed each other the gifts and went our separate ways to open them. I thought that with her passing that the tradition would be lost, but earlier this year we were blessed with a girl that we are adopting. The family got together again to make Christmas something special for her. My wife and I got her her first bike and while we were taking turns running up and down the street keeping her upright my wife's brother and father came outside onto the porch and got into an argument about the best way to teach our daughter how to ride. I have to smile now thinking about that scene, two breathless 30 somethings holding up a 7 year old while two grown men gripe at each other (while doing nothing to help us). It isn't exactly the 'Miracle on 34th Street' or 'It's a Wonderful Life' but it's still a Christmas memory to look back on and treasure. Anyway to answer your question, for us at least, Christmas came back this year.
Please don't make me kill this thread.
Problem solved. I'm a fixer, it's what I do.

I forgot about this one, I memorized the ABA routing number for every bank in Oklahoma and most of Colorado years ago and still remember them. Useful? Not really.

I have the ability to magnify the smell of money. Anytime I have any on me the smell is so overpowering that my wife has to remove the money from my person to cut down on the scent.
I also have the ability to draw attention from one of my cats just by sitting down in a chair with my laptop.
I used to be able to make tools disappear, but now that they're all gone I can't do it anymore.
