  I feel the same way about Justin. It does appear that he's got a great career ahead of him and is bound to be a success with the show or without it. Unfortunately, I missed the first five or six minutes of the show last night so I didn't get to see all the drama regarding the disqualified contestant. Ah, well...the ladies at the office filled me in today.

  I completely understand about you not wanting to reveal who you voted for. I'm tempted to keep my decision to myself...not because it would reveal my location, but because I'm so embarassed about who I chose:

  There was just something about his performance that caught my attention and I had to vote for him. He wasn't the best of the singers last night, but I liked his performance anyway. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him.

  recently, kingdom halls of jehovahs witnesses were the largest group of intended recipients of an international mailing campaign, spanning all fifty states of the united states and including the countries of canada and england.. the results in the us have been interesting, and could have far-reaching effects on our legal system and on the preaching practices of jehovahs witnesses.. over a hundred years ago, a group of evangelical apocryphical persons calling themselves "bible students" began a campaign to sell bible-based literature at homes throughout the united states.

  from time to time, their effeorts faced legal challenges, some were won and some were lost, but in general the door-to-door campaigns have continued unabated, with varying degrees of success.

  Let's pick a day and just go nail it to the doors of all the Kingdom Hall's.

  I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but this sounds like a good idea to me. I could conceivably get copies posted on at least four or five halls in my area. They certainly wouldn't be able to ignore that.

  What is it about this show that is so darned addictive? Have you voted for any of the contestants yet? I actually called and voted three times last night. I'm so ashamed of myself. LOL!

  Volunteer Work is Never Encouraged

  i always find it so annoying whenever there's a wt study on the good samaritan.

  no one at the hall ever suggests that the idea behind it, is that we should be helping our "enemies" in a charitable way, such as feeding them, clothing them, helping them out in a physcial way.....nope they always turn it around to where it only means we should be preaching to our enemies, cause lord only knows, actually helping someone out in a charitable way means less than nothing in the organization.. anyhoo, the last time we had an article on that (couple of years ago), i specifically put up my hand and said "this is not talking about preaching to our enemies.

  the samaritan did not preach to the jew nor vise versa.

  The attitude of many JWs toward their fellow man is truly disheartening. Taking a few extra minutes out of your day to do something good for your 'worldly' brother hurts you none and encourages those around you. Kindness costs you nothing.

  Not only do Witnesses generally not engage or contribute to charitable works, many actually think that it is wrong to do so. Paranoia over contributing to "Christendom's organizations", fraudulant charities or otherwise wasting valuable time and finances that could be spent on the preaching work - the only "real and lasting solution to mankind's problems" - prevents most from having any involvement with charitable organization. This gives many JWs who are cheap legitamate sounding excuses.

  Excellent point! I can still recall food drives during my school years. Nope, we mustn't do that...it's for Thanksgiving, run by The Salvation Army, run by The United Way. Speaking of The United Way, I remember those little donation drives they did in grade schools where you donated some small amount of change and they would give you one of those little yellow stickers with a smiley face indicating that you had donated money. My first year in public schools, I donated a quarter and I wore that sticker with pride all day long feeling so good about what I had done. Needless to say, my family was less than thrilled with my contribution to society.

  i have really enjoyed getting to know so many of you.

  don't consider this a permanent goodbye, as i'll most likely stop back every now and again to see how you are faring.

  and to keep you updated with me and the family deal.. the reality is, this board was great for me while i was pregnant, i was so sick.

  my hands are sore from all the clapping and my voice is hoarse from all the cheering.

  Hey Brian,

  We meet again...hehehe! I know that I'm gay and all, but The Village People have always seemed a bit frightening to me. Maybe it's those porn star moustaches, but they're a little too out there.

  But, have you ever seen there incredibly campy movie "Can't Stop The Music?" Soooo cheesy and sooo campy that it's a must see. Saw it in the store the other day on DVD for $12.00. I might have to grab a copy for myself.

  what do americans in general actually really know about the big outside world outside of their own culture?.

  it's certainly not just me, but for years since early childhood in fact, it has been commonly accepted by many, that americans in general are the biggest ignorant fools residing almost anywhere on the planet, yet they still do their damndest to have everyone believe what a great nation they are.

  is it even beyond their comprehension how foolish they look often to the rest of the world, the fact that they have so little understanding of problems on the worldwide front?.

  Um...possibly what was being reffered to were the IRA attacks of recent years.

  You're probably right about that, Bgurltryal. I suppose I was thinking more of the bombing raids that they had to deal with in England during WWII.

  Amen to that! I was thinking about this last weekend as our family was making plans for the Fourth of July. I can't imagine how it must have been for the Britons to live in constant fear of the next attack during the war. I've seen representations of some of the realities of the time in many different films and television programs, but can not grasp how horrible it must have been.
