Has anyone found dating as an EX JW difficult?
by sweetstuff injust curious as to what difficulties have faced people dating as an ex jw.
myself, i have noticed the glazed over look in a guy's eyes when you try to explain why your family doesn't celebrate the holidays with you etc.
new to this board, so if this has been well covered before, please forgive me.

He he, umm dating defenition, going out with a member of the opposite, oops should be careful here, or same sex, with who you have an interest in developing a possible romantic or sexual relationship. How's that? Come on cut me some slack I am not a professor, sheesh. No wonder I hated the Theocratic Ministry School!

I want to address the symptoms of a malady I see everyday. VERY SMART PEOPLE GOING NOWHERE in life because they waste their intelligence.
Conversation with self after viewing the above:
"Quick! Call a doctor I have a malady! Why? Because I haven't achieved certain accomplishments with my life, I am wasting it, wait a second here... I like my life, I am a pretty happy person, false alarm!! Phew!!"
Hey Terry, new to the forum, personally I would rather suffer from intellectual starvation than intellectual ego syndrome. Not referring to you of course, but I have seen many people who judge others too often based on what they deem to be correct or intellectually stimulating. If someone is content with their life, yet another is viewing them as wasting it, who is right? Contentment of the individual is in fact the goal of life is it not? Children are often referred to by many cultures as Zen Masters because they have the ability to empty their minds and live in the moment, unlike us oh so wise adults. What if the malady you in fact see everyday is utopia to those "afflicted" by it? And while being intellectual can give you the ability to break free of mindless enterprises, one come's to mind right away, it can also in fact make a person miss the point of life itself. Living it on your own terms, regardless of what someone else views to be worthwhile or successful. To each his or her own.

Yeah, socially we were so prepared weren't we?? I mean, given the opportunity as young adults to date, find out what we liked, didn't like etc. Oh wait, that was the life of a non witness, my bad! Someone should write a dating manual I think, explaining what its like to grow up in the "truth" (gag, sorry couldn't be helped) maybe call it...101 Ways to Explain Your JW Social Handicap. Might come in handy during a new relationship, no talk, just hand him or her the book. Let's see, chapter one..Why I never had a date in high school. Chapter two..Why I was a virgin so freaking long..anyone have an idea for chapter three? he he

It defenitely does make you different, I sometimes wondering if dating other ex jw's would be better, because at least they would GET where you come from. Hmm, downside to that, what if they go back?? LOL
