What's the ol' Watchtower saying......"out of the mouth of babes".......well, that seems to be the case here. Glad to hear you broke away, and even better, that your children understand. Now you can get on with a normal life with your kids, and watch them grow up enjoying the things that they are supposed to and not have them feel like they are so different from everyone else. There's nothing better than leaving the borg as a family....I wish your family all the best!

Boston archdiocese offers $55 million settlement
Lawyer: Hundreds who allege abuse considering terms
Friday, August 8, 2003 Posted: 8:33 PM EDT (0033 GMT)
Story ToolsRELATED • $10 million settles alleged priest abuse case • Boston archdiocese refuses to settle abuse case BOSTON, Massachusetts (CNN) -- The Boston archdiocese has offered $55 million to settle an estimated 542 claims of clergy sex abuse, a lawyer representing alleged victims told CNN on Friday.
Mitchell Garabedian, who represents 120 of the claimants, said it's not certain whether the offer will be accepted.
"I am going to review it with my clients," Garabedian said. "There are a lot of details to go through."
The church would not discuss the negotiations.
"We don't make any comment about the substance of negotiations," said the Rev. Chris Coyne, a spokesman for the archdiocese. "There was a mediation meeting today. It went well, but we've agreed not to talk about it."
Garabedian said a "significant aspect" of the offer was that the church would pay for counseling after the cases are settled.
This is not the first settlement offer. Under Cardinal Bernard Law, the diocese offered $30 million to a smaller number of plaintiffs, and then backed out of the agreement when the archdiocese's finance council rejected the terms.
The church then made a $10 million settlement offer in September 2002, which 86 of Garabedian's clients accepted.
Law stepped down in December in the wake of the scandal, in which church officials are accused of shuttling priests from parish to parish after they were accused of sex abuse.
Archbishop Sean O'Malley was installed as head of the diocese July 30.

Just Got Off The Phone With My Sister..................
by Mary injust got off the phone with my sister.............she started talking about an ex-elder in her congregation and his "apostate" attitude, so i asked her what she considered "apostacy".
she says that's when you openly talk against the troof........i said "the bible says it's when someone denies jesus as having come in the flesh.".
anyway, we started talking about the pedophile problem within the organization and the people who have been disfellowshipped for speaking out about it.

When Dateline aired some time ago, and told my mother about the show, and she watched it. Now, my mother is one of the staunchest JW's ever. After she watched Dateline, she told me she believed the two girls on it, and said that what they were saying was probably the truth. She then went on to tell me how years ago, there was an elder who was molesting his daughters. (He's been long gone since then)
But even after telling me this, her attitude is that it's an imperfect organization and there will always be things that happen like that, but Jehovah weeds them out.
I'm telling you, this is the general attitude of all JW's. You can show them all the truth and facts you want to about the borg, but they insist on believing it's "God's" organization, and this type of stuff will happen in the time of the end. So you might as well go and have a conversation with a brick wall, cause I think it would be more reasonable.......

To AlanF and others! What legal means can be used to stop JC's?
by cyberguy into allan f. and others, what legal means did you use to stop judicial committees from dfng you?
since i was baptized as a teenager, can i use this to my advantage, since i was not of "legal" age to enter into a contract with the watchtower society (i was baptized in 1973)?
also, in my 30s i was appointed an "elder.

Hello Cyberguy. I'm not sure if this will help, but I thought I'd tell you what worked for my wife and I.
We both did the slow fade thing, but once we decided to stop completely, we had the elders banging on our door on the weekends. We never answered it of course. And they would try to call, but we had caller ID at the time, (got rid of our home phone completely now and just have cells) so we didn't answer the phone. But they started coming by unannounced on weekend mornings (cause it was convenient for them since they have to go peddle books anyway) so I decided to take this approach:
On a Tuesday evening when I knew the PO would be gone, I called his house and left him a message not for anyone to stop by our house at all anymore or to call us. I told him I knew where the kingdom hall was and I knew where he lived.....and if things changed for us, we'd let him know. I did tell him I didn't appreciate him or others coming by here unannounced. I told him that he should respect our wishes and not bother us again.
And that was about 10 months ago, and to this day, we haven't been bothered by him or anyone else from that congregation. We leave them alone, and they leave us alone. I'm not saying this will work in every situation, but for us it's worked great.

Did you use the JW calendars?
by GermanXJW ineven in my hardcore active jw time i had no use for the jw calendar.
i ordered it each year and put it into a drawer.
most months were really ugly illustrated and it was completly useless without the holidays.
-
jimbob
Yeah, we used them. But it always irritated me that they never put "worldly" holidays on them. Good JW's don't need to know when the holidays are. Of course, we always had a real calendar elsewhere in the house. As soon as we quit the borg, the calendar was the first thing to go.....straight into the trash!!
