  HOLY SMOKE!!!, I had no idea I was so ignorant. lol

  All my life I have heard it said in comedies and/or cartoons. NO I am not french and don't pretend to be. I looked it up on the internet and got all kinds of responses.

  "No portrayal of a stage Frenchman in an English farce could be complete without a character in a beret and striped jumper, shrugging his shoulders and muttering 'Sacre bleu!'. Literally, holy blue which refers to the colour associated with the Virgin Mary.

  That is where I know it from. And all my life I thought it meant Holy Smoke! since smoke is usually kind of blue. I don't know where I got it, but I looked it up years ago and that's the def. I got. So now what do I do???????????????

  Now I am in a quandry.......... Do I have a cow like a newb JW when learning of the origins of Christmas and Holloween!!! and gasp, change my whole life and change my "name" here on the board? Or do I bury my head in the sand and continue in my ignorance????? What a tragedy!!!!!!! What a dilemma!!!

  Now I am outed for the ignorant goof I really am!!!!!! And must decide. Oh, life is so cruel..... lol

  Seriously, I don't want to be disrespectful to God. I'll have to think on this.

  The reason I didn't separate the two words and add an exclamation point is that I did not want to have to shift and hit the 1 key everytime I typed it in. Am I lazy or just tired or what?

  Got any suggestions for a new moniker? (sp)

  And I know this is a techie ?, but how do I do a spell check here. I do not have Firefox by the way.

  sacrebleu is pronounced sock-ray-blue and means Holy Smoke! Which is how I feel about a lot of the boloney I used to believe! How was I ever SO misled? A rhetorical question to be sure, but still a valid question. I am continually working it out and you all are helping.

  Do we have trust issues?

  since the 'incident' with trevor and company, do you feel you cannot trust people here anymore?

  i don't mean online in general, i don't mean in your day to day life i mean on this site.. i think some of us have taken a direct hit right where trust was and the issues are starting to become apparent on this site.

  i'm not referring to individuals but rather the general feel of the site - it feels like the site has developed a limp.

  I guess I am just kind of cynical. I only saw one post about Trevor and Linda and I told my hubby about it and we both thought it was really sad IF it was REAL. I never posted my doubt since I am new here and felt like I didn't have the right and I COULD have been wrong about it.

  But when I post and people either ignore me or don't post after me, I wonder if Trevor and Linda ruined everything or am I just too much of a newb.

  forties suits with handpainted ties.

  fifties/sixties sharkskin "rat pack" suits with the skinniest ties i could get away with, etc.,

  I remember the worst winter ever in my life when the elders told my sister and I that we could not wear out floor length maxi-coats because they were too stylish. Some of the women wore boots that went up under their calve length skirts and kept their legs warm. The stupid men could wear long johns under their suits, but my sister and I and the other women were just supposed to freeze our knees off. I didn't go out in service at all that winter.

  why do so many "non witness " jws not bother to find out the "truth"

  my siblings who have left (3/7 last count) have no desire to talk about or hear about much less read about what the deal is witht the org our parents decided would bring them everlasting life.

  it is head shaking to me - and i try not to bring it up at all- but when they ask, or it comes up and they are all freaked out about me being interested in it all i just shake my head.

  even friends i grew up with in the org have no desire to know - they are just not interested.

  Maxwell, you say you didn't do much research but you DID read a couple of books. That is more than some people do. I think the people who avoid researching are afraid they will find out the JWs are right and they don't want to know that.

  When I first started fading I avoided the whole thing for a while because I still thought they had the truth, but I compared it to a patient who figures out that they would rather die of an incurable disease than put up with the treatment that causes a prolonged, painful death anyway.

  I sincerely still believed that they had the only way, but I was so miserable I didn't care. So I went out and acted any way I wanted to. Finally I realized I could have belief in God without being a JW. It was an awesome, cheering discovery! So freeing!!!!!!!!! I have been much happier ever since.

  I just feel bad for the people who don't realize that the JWs are not the only way to God like they claim. It's like they have been given a gift and they just take it and never open it.

  When my sister was out, she helped me get out. But when my brother would criticize (sp) the JWs she would always take up for them. She ended up going back in.

  I know people who have come out and when I ask them if they are interested in meeting with others who have left or been DF or abused or whatever, they look at me like I am crazy.

  I talked to a pro counselor one time and she surmized it might be they are still running from bad memories. But I think they just don't want to think about how wrong they were.

  But in my experience, if you don't study your history, you might repeat it. I know there are people here who no longer believe in God, but when I read the Bible, I get continual support for leaving the borg with their way of twisting Scriptures and taking them out of context.

  i meant to post this several weeks ago.

  weird coincidence.

  right after the sept km which happened to mention how bad it is to learn hebrew or greek to check the accuracy of the nwt, i heard a radio ad i have never heard before.

  I studied Hebrew for a short time until I realized the teacher had an agenda of her own. I will get back to it I hope with a more reliable teacher. But when I mentioned my interest to my JW relative, the question was asked, "Why would you want to do that?"

  Of course, they don't want you knowing any real Hebrew. You might actually no more than the idiots who "translated" their NWT. You wouldn't have to know much to surpass them. A good strong's concordance will do it.
