Did the society do away with the Law Enforcement career ban?
by 5go ini was just wondering.
i thought i remember something where a watchtower said it was ok to carry a gun on the job.

I read your post, just don't know the answer to your question.
Years ago when the whole "no gun" thing started there was a deputy sheriff in a certain congregation; obviously he carried a gun at work. The local elders gave him six months to either find another job or find another religion. I wish I knew what he chose.

What was the purpose of Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society
by Lady Lee infrom visions of glory, chapter 2. russell was the president of the organization that is today known as the watch tower bible and tract society of pennsylvania.
mrs. russell was a director of the society and served as its secretary and treasurer for some years.
[yearbook, 1975, p. 66) according to its charter, "the purpose for which the corporation is formed is, the dissemination of bible truths in various languages by means of the publication of tracts, pamphlets, papers and other religious documents and by the use of all other lawful means which its board of directors, duly constituted, shall deem expedient for the furtherance of the purpose stated.

So much for teaching the Word of God. They had one purpose - print and disseminate books, fliers, pamphlets, information in any form - except the verbal one
They didn't need a corporation to speak! To disseminate literature is quite another thing. Forming a corporation makes perfect sense.
Try not to judge the past by the present.

Missing friends
by purplesofa inover the years i have made many friends online that are jw's.
when my doubts were such with the organization that i was full on posting here, little by little i withdrew from my jw friends online and in person.
no explanation, i have not responded to emails over time, and just let those friendships die down.. out of respect.......i felt sneaky in my researching the organization and just was not sure where my thoughts and feelings were going to land.. today, i unblocked someone on my messenger to chat with them.

Don't ever give up hope.
I have some issues of my own that I deal with and my "final answer" is that this is the baking stage....all we need to do is sit back and wait. Our part in the process has been accomplished....just wait for the results.

Tower of Babel - /another thing/ God didn't have to do.
by Awakened07 inwe all know the story of the tower of babel, and there are lots of things one can discuss around the topic, like for instance how god actually didn't allow mankind to 'experiment' with governing themselves, but chose to intervene whenever they seemed to get close to being united.. however - that is not the topic of this thread (and has been covered in other threads already).. .
so - what do i mean when i say "another thing god didn't have to do"?.
the first of the things i'm referring to, is the diversity of life itself, as it happens through evolution by cumulative steps of naturally selected, inherited traits over the generations of a population (i'm not going to go into detail here).. so - over to the other thing that god didn't have to do:.

Not really.
Whatever you say; it's your thread.
I'm just glad I didn't actually start into discussing the material with you.

I prefer replies I can make something out of
In that case try taking it one point at a time. You have so much in that post that it's beyond the scope of one thread to straighten it all out.

Hating God?
by avidbiblereader ini cannot but read many of the posts in which god/jehovah or even christ is ridiculed, mocked and even hated?
so i ask the question why?.
what has god ever done to you personally?

All I can say is, don't take it out on God, just because you could be all wrong about Him/Her again!
You had it wrong in the pass...Do really think your "right" now?
I don't think people are as much "taking it out on God" as they are being upset that they were given a faulty framework on which to build.
I think most people are simply (and honestly!) looking for a real starting point.
