What kind of positive proof would you need....
by journey-on into accept the existence of god?
(i'm not talking about "a big man in the sky" kind of deity.
) what would it take to convince you that mankind was intentionally created by a powerful and intelligent creative force?

JW-Values Anyone?
by JAVA inwe have a discussion group of 8 or 9 people that meets at our house every 4 to 6 weeks.
weve been doing this over 5 years and gotten to know each other fairly well.
during our last salon a few spoke of religious values that carried over even though they are no longer members of their former religion.

i don't think I've picked up on any values which i wouldn't have learnt anyway...but I think we do get some skills. in depth biblical knowledge and the ability to research (whether or not you see that as a good thing lol), interpersonal skills from having to talk to complete f'kin strangers at their houses...confident public speakers etc...

Apology for raising children in the Truth
by jeanne40love inwould you apologize in writing to your children for raising them in the truth?
i've apologized verbally........ none of them is going to meetings any longer...... my husband and i have been drifting away for several years..... .
i was raised a witness, and thought we were doing the right thing.

Do you feel out of place, a "misfit", since leaving the org?
by FreedomFrog ini seem to be "stuck" in between worlds.
the world i knew and the world i'm trying to know and learn.. are there others that feel this too?
do you ever remember feeling this way at any point?.

its been a long time since I've been to meetings or even called myself a witness but i still don't actually fit into the 'real' world. its the upbringing, we're just very different and i don't think it ever really goes away. i mean even now after all the time that has passed and desensitization that I've tried to cultivate i still feel 'guilty' for coming onto a site like this...particularly when some majorly disgruntled ex spins a load of bullshit about the JWs I know I shouldn't care but i still feel compelled to defend them.
honestly, at least once a day i say i wish i were just born Catholic.

Do you have any assembly memories/stories?
by RisingEagle inon an earlier thread about ice cream i remembered a snack that was sold at assemblies and that started me thinking about some of my memories of childhood at conventions/assemblies.
i guess it was the taste/smell association because even today when i go to various convention halls for home improvement expos, car shows and the like it takes me right back to the past.
i have many memories wrapped around the conventions and experienced different things because i have lots of elders in the family that were used, literally, for food service, the accounting office, security and dramas.

Namaste, you verbalised that perfectly.

I have very distinct childhood memories of Circuit Assemblies and Conventions. My dad was an elder so I was either helping out around First Aid or the Literature Department. My family and I would always be some of the last to leave because dad was always in meetings and stuff, so as a little kid you can imagine how bored I got. Then when kids finally did find something 'fun' to do, like writing on the blackboard or running up and down the stage stairs we'd invariably get in trouble.
overall I have fond memories...but that's the whole point...all my childhood memories are centered around meetings, field service, conventions, assemblies, busy bees...not exactly a normal childhood lol ;)
