  if the organization did not actually prophesy the end in 1925 and 1975, then how come so many witnesses left the faith immediately afterwards?

  if the watchtower organization rejects others calling them "inspired" yet the watchtower organization does call themselves "god's spirit-directed prophet" what is the difference?

  In Rev 22:12-13, Jesus Christ, the one who is "coming quickly", says of himself, " I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end". In Rev 1:17-18, Jesus, the one who "became dead, but, look! I am living forever and ever", refers to himself as the first and the last. Rev 21:6, in speaking of God, says, "...I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end ...". God is also referred to as the "first" and the "last" in Isa 44:6 and Isa 48:12. How can this be since by definition of these words there can only be one first and one last?

  If you look at this in the NWT, you'll find the passage is tortuously surrounded by several levels of quotation marks, making it appear if you really concentrate that someone else is speaking. The translation is technically possible but utterly unjustifiable. And it has to be deliberate. There's no possibility of it being an honest mistake. It's too complicated. Reading it in the NWT and trying to figure out who's supposed to be saying what is almost impossible.

  Literature Price List at your Hall?

  my mum was telling me today that her congregation has a list of guide prices for the literature so that brothers have an idea what they should be contributing.

  she has been told it was put up in response to request.. i am curious to find out if this is general practice or what?.

  We had that 5 years or so ago, when I was magazine servant. I always openly referred to it as "not a price list" to highlight that it was clearly a price list. The irony was lost on most people.

  Why arn't these things in the bible?

  i just been wondering recently about the bible and it's content.. there are certain things that seem to be basic principles that humans have gradualy built up an understanding of through the ages and have advanced mankind in numerous ways.. so if the bible is gods word to man why didn't he mention these things earlier.. 1.germs.

  humans have only recently come to understand the concept of germs and what they do and how to get rid of them.. imagine the suffering that could have been releaved through the ages if humans had been taugh by god about germs or bacteria .the black death need never had happened.. 2 logic.

  why didn't he teach about how to come to logical and sound conclusions when confronted by an argument?.

  Dont blame "holy" wars on God... these are entirely down to men misled by false religions warring with other misled men controlled by false religions.

  Agreed, but if God had made his intentions clear, there would be no possibility of being misled. As it is, it's easy to interpret the Bible, the Koran or other "holy" books in ways that sanction evil behavior.

  As for germs, gravity, planetary orbits etc... well, of course these are all part of everything, but in all honesty, what really does it have to do with the ransom of Christ and the Divine will?

  Not necessarily anything, but if God had bothered to provide us with some information that could not possibly have come from human sources, and then told us what he wanted clearly and succinctly, it would have saved a lot of arguments, holy wars, etc.

  personnally, i heard a lot of urban legends about the presence of a devil in a house.

  it was always the same kind of story about a devil who lived in a house and then the jw arrive and they pray jehovah and suddendly, the demon go away...

  Never really heard much in the way of urban legends, but I am reminded of when I used to go to conventions as a child. The car would almost invariably break down or we'd get lost. My mother would work herself up into a terrible state about this and start crying, convinced that Satan was trying to stop us getting there. Of course the fact that we always had an old car which wasn't used to the 100-mile-plus journey, and the fact that the route was unfamiliar didn't really figure. That sort of superstition is only a small step away from smurf stories and the like.

  an israeli soldier of jah stands ready in his place outside the walls of jericho.

  finally, as the walls crumble down, many people of jericho scatter and run, including families with babies in mommy's arm, children clutching their daddy's hand.. an israelite soldier see one of these families, and according to his marching orders, runs after this family.

  Perpetrators of atrocities often claim to be doing God's work. the Israelites were no exception. Fortunately, the 5-year-old girl in this scenario at least suffered a quick death, not the years of humiliation and degradation she would have suffered had she been a Midianite (Numbers 31).

  God on Trial - #1

  premise: many who have read the bible over the centuries have accepted it as authoritatively from god, and have glossed over some glaring inconsistencies, contradictions, and shear nonsense.

  some cultish groups have attempted to mimick the myths and twisted beliefs they have derived from the bible.

  jehovah's witnesses are no exception to this.. this raises the questions: if the bible (as we know it) is from god, having his stamp of authorship and approval, then can we ever at some point raise serious questions about it?

  Excellent post, Amazing. It's clear from stories in the Bible such as the genocide at Jericho that, even if we ignore the inconsistencies and absurdities in the Old Testament, it's not a book about a loving god. It more closely fits the premise that it's a semi-historical record of an almost-savage tribe and their barbaric exploits. I'm with Slayer: even if that god did exist, I would rather burn for eternity than serve him.

  i would like to know why you still beleive in god and what, based upon the bible, leads you to believe in god.. i likethe scripture that states the earth was a circle and hung upon nothing.

  i also find that there is evidence the flood existed.

  anybody know the stats of the "supposed" ark on mr. ararat?.

  to see if any of you are aware of any physical evidence according to science that would make as a good point of interest for someone who may consider themselves an atheist or agnostic.

  But if you're not aware of such evidence, why would you believe in God? Surely the evidence should come before the belief?

  Crime - Sign of Last Days?

  hello all: recall how the wts harped on "crime" as the 'love of the greater number cooling off' and the growing 'lawlessness' and so forth as part of the "composite" sing of the last days.. crime is down all over the world, except for some pockets.

  and as one piece of evidence, here is today's headline from the new york times:.

  "who ever thought crime would go down?
