  God, Funkyderek, you have absolutely NO imagination. You can't even entertain the idea that this is a possibility? You are so dogmatic with your "absolutely-no-way" philosophy.

  I have no problem imagining New Jerusalem, although perhaps my creative powers could never reach the psychedlically absurd levels of John of Patmos. I just don't see the point in pretending that those drug-fuelled ravings actually represent something real. I can accept that it's a possibility only in the trivial sense that anything anybody can imagine could be possible in an infinite universe. It seems to me that it's those who try to match everything that happens in the real world with ancient scribblings who show the real lack of imagination. They can't even begin to imagine that these books contain something other than true predictions about the time they themselves live in. What a small-minded egocentric view of the world!

  I bet in one of your past lives hundreds of years ago, you were one of those individuals that INSISTED there was no way the earth was not flat.

  No doubt you and cameo-d were the sort who painted "Here be dragons" on the uncharted areas of maps.

  Funky, I happen to disagree. I think there are some things here that beg for deeper thinking and interpretation.

  Like what? What's to interpret? It might be worth asking what John meant by his description of New Jerusalem, but there's no sense in which it's reasonable to talk about what this New Jerusalem might actually be. It isn't actually anything, it's just made up.

  Lockheed Martin and Raytheon are building something in space and they have been working on it for a long time.

  The only thing being built in space is the International Space Station. In any case, what does that have to do with anything?

  Maybe not a simple hallucination. Maybe this fore-knowledge comes from the fact that this has happened before !

  There's no foreknowledge involved, and in what sense do you think this happened before?

  Maybe this was not even written by John but was attributed to him falsely.

  Well, it clearly wasn't written by the writer of the Gospel of John (although it is usually attributed to him), but the writer self-identifies as John, which then as now, was a common name.

  well i overheard my wife last night on the phone telling someone she does not celebrate thanksgiving, i have asked her in the past why and she gave the stock answer about how holidays are rooted in paganism.

  well from what i know, there is nothing pagan about the thanksgiving celebration, what is the official reason that is given for not celebrating this?

  No, possibly the worst, in fact. Remember that their stated goal is fulfilling their interpretation of Matthew 24:14, which is making sure that everybody in the world knows what they believe and has a chance to become a JW and so make it through Armageddon. To this end, they spend over a billion man-hours a year ostensibly spreading this message and produce upwards of a billion books, magazines and leaflets in a year. And yet, pick a person at random and ask them what JWs believe. The average person has no idea. They may mention not taking blood transfusions or not celebrating Christmas, but it would be exceptionally rare to find someone who knows they believe that Jesus returned invisibly in 1914 or indeed any significant part of JW doctrine.

  All JWs want is for people to know what they believe, and almost nobody does. Epic fail!

  Yes I did, I gave a fairly standard generic JW prayer except that I cleverly omitted the name "Jehovah", intending to refer anyone who challenged me to Matthew 6 where Jesus also failed to use the name in a model for how his followers should pray.

  But nobody noticed. Same thing happened with my subtly apostate answers in the Watchtower study. So in the end I just stopped going.

  Nope, wrong again. Amazon.co.uk returns around 22,000 results. What you did wrong was post just for the sake of it without thinking about what you actually wrote. As I already mentioned, it would actually have been easier to check your facts than to post here. And yet, three times now you've failed to do that. Do you just have a compulsion to start threads?
