i have noticed, and posted a little bit about all the buzz surrounding this year.

there is a little bit of a whisper campaign going around that armageddon is coming this year.

from other posts i notice im not the only one who is seeing this, there is alot of "reminders" that we need to be obedient and trusting of the fds ( which i am of course), along with reminders to stock up and prepare for disasters etc they are really pointing to something.

The above link talks about the owners. I would think there is a generous kick-back of some kind that is benefits the WTS directly. Like Dale Baker Olds International Inc and it's site circuit leasing. Remember corporate donations to non-prophets (hee hee) are tax deductable! Everyone gets a piece of the action!

how i know i have entered the south... if i order "sweet tea" and the wait-staff does not point at the sugar and sweet-n-low on the table.. that's a high 90% indication i am in the "south".. florida may not always be the south... the paradox that comes from being as far east as it is south.

even ocala and winter haven are overun with michigan and new yorkers now days.. oklahoma is ok... some parts or southern... others , western buy so far i dont find many "yankees" around here.. parts of michigan may be in the south... during ww2 much of the south went up and stayed.

in some places you find grits easier than german sausage.

JW Ex-Wife taking daughter out of school for holidays

when growing up, i don't remember being taken out of school for much, but my ex-wife takes my daughter out for so many holidays.

i just found out that she took her out thursday and friday for valentines day.

is this even legal?

When JW parents do this routinely because of holidays, usually the teacher has their assignments ready to take home. Most teachers I know are happy to have the JW child gone so it doesn't disrupt the party by having to cater to one child's needs over the whole. Before going all legal consider asking your child their feelings on the matter (encourages critical and independent thinking). If at all possible respect those feelings. If you go to court the Judge will be asking the child anyway and usually rule based on their wishes.

I hated the parties! I was a true-blue growing up and when my father tried to 'force' me to celebrate I refused and pouted more then Veruca on Willy Wonka. I liked going to the library (I love books!) or going home. Every person is different, I would have liked my opinions asked and respected even way back then.

Do You Believe The Majority of JWs Believe Everything They Are Taught?

years ago, nearly every jw were true believers.

even if they were considered weak in the faith, they accepted all the beliefs and views from "mother".

do you think today's witnesses accept everything as being the truth?.

For those of us in the developed nations-NO

I don't know of anyone who doesn't have some doubt of some kind concerning the organization and present teachings. Unless you want to count children who are trying their best to be good JWs and obey what they are being taught. After all wasn't that the last time many of us were true-believers. My doubts started about the time I was 6, when the WTBS started to focus more on control in the early 80's.

valentines day

i am a christian and i will openly say that i do not know anything about jehovahs wittnesses.

with that being said, i have a few questions.

there are two girls that attend an elementary school that i substituted at today.

The Valentines Day Party participation was the problem. Ice cream sundae was not.

As a teacher you may encounter children with different lifestyles and beliefs then your own. Being courteous and knowledgable is always appreciated by students and parents alike. I think it would be best if you put yourself in the mother's shoes. She mostlikely has passed on a brochure explaining the prohibitions of said holidays and made clear her child was not to participate. This is her parental right. She comes in to retrieve her child and finds her participating in a holiday she deems 'pagan, and against her instructions'. As a Christian ( and many JWs will defend themselves as Christians) I am sure you would not want your child participating in the Wiccan Oimealg (Feb 2), should public schools ever start to expand it's holiday calendar to include other religious holidays.

Personally as a JW parent I wouldn't have sent my child to school, but many do not have my luxury of being a stay-at-home- mom.

As a former JWkid, I dreaded every holiday not because of my being sent to the library or reading a book on the corner bean bag. I dreaded it because my teachers designed their entire yearly curriculums around holidays.

Hardcore evangelical intellectual just fell for an enlightened JW girl

here goes- i'm a 49 year old lawyer, whose been divorced for 8 years.

If she is doing the birthday thing, she has potential for being a fader.

Date a bit, but don't cast you entire lot. Engage her in her devoutness, is it to 9 men or God?

Ask yourself if you could deal with her lingering beliefs regarding immortality of the soul, enternal hellfire torment, and trinity? Introduce her to Jesus as her mediator.

My husband (SB) dated, married and had children with me and see 12 years later I am on this board and on my way out. I still believe as a JW about the 3 above, but I know and except Jesus in my heart. I do not believe that the WTS GB is under any divine appointment.

Yes, he hangs out on the JW Topix forum. You can read his old postings or start a new thread about the UN/WTS debacle. He will be quick to defend even going as far as to say he wishes they were still active members.

What I personally encountered with this person were half-truths. I live in Texas and stayed on top of the Amy B case while it was in Texas. He posted to me that the WTS case was dismissed with prejudice, which is true concerning the WTS of NY, the local elders on the other hand were still standing in a deep field of cowpies. He not only refuses to acknowledge that the Eldums are part of the WTS, he keeps harping how the WTS was "venerated". Basically Amy eventually cast her lot with the Napa Group and as we know they settled.

It did bring attention to me how the WTS was willing to let the Eldums twist in the wind after 'Mother' got her arse out of the sling. There were arguments that the written notations in the Flock book were erroneous of JW policy and that they were just personal opinions of the local Elders not that they were told these things by the CO and legal.

Oh and the lawyers used were hired guns! (former Dean of Baylor Law!) Also this was the case that generated the buzz concerning the Elders having no fiduciary responsibility to the congregation.
