Aly-it's interesting that my dads background was portuguese-shipped off to England sometime in the 1700's or so. There is no record of it specifically.

Did anyone experienced racism in their old congo?
by confusa ini went to a spanish congregation and there were different hispanic nationalities and one in particular used to snub, criticize and make fun of the other one.
very unchristian and so the opposite of what they preached.

Let me tell you about a trip to Mexico City 2 years ago.
Now I understand their hatred of Americans-not that I think it's justified-so imagine a 6 foot green eyed dude wandering the streets of a poor neighbourhood. I was always getting stared at the first few times I visited our friends. Now this particular time I had noticed a new bunch of kids in the 'hood and as usual they approached me with curiosity. Giggling as usual. But this time out came some pretty nasty comments.
Hey Gringo!
"I f@#k your mother" (both comments in english)
The first comment I had heard many times. I responded in Spanish-no soy Gringo, soy Canadiense.
The second comment blew me away. So I talked with one of our "family' and mentioned I heard this. She was visibly upset.Aparrently the kids like to learn some english, and naturally, bad language is right up there. My friend explained that I was not American, and that what they said was really nasty.
I responded to them in Spanish that-lo siento, pero mi madre es muerte.
I think it is ignorance by the parents, perhaps even racism taught by them. Too bad they are taught to hate someone form outside their little world. The good thing was that I was always treated well in all the churches I had attended. Maybe kids grow up to be good for the mostpart.

The Watchtower Societies tone of self importance is pretty evident. If you don't like our truth, the way we present it, you cannot be one of us.
Why Witnesses are so afraid of leaving is beyond me. There is plenty of "truth" out there for everyone. These peole remind me of Holocaust deniers. Nope never happened. So far from the real truth. Honesty too.

I have recently come to the conclusion that most who believe in the ressurection are afraid to die. It is fear that motivates people to the bible for the most part. Imagine all you have to do is believe in Jesus as your saviour and voila-eternal life. Like the magic elixor at a circus. Believe and you have an instant fix.
Most people will deny that (the fear ), but if you read the rhetoric about 6 billion people being destroyed, it does have a fear factor. Plus, I remember hearing the phrase "the fear of God", especially the Catholics.
Because the bible was so poorly written, and I am referring to all the contradictions, I find most of the rhetoric quite nonsensical and quite violent. Therefore I take the book with a large pinch of salt. However I still have faith in my life, because it makes me feel pretty good.
Faith is ok, but blind faith signifies a lack of thought. Someone else thinks for you.

by nomoreguilt inthe pledge of allegiance is a promise or oath of alegiance to the united states and to its national flag.it is commonly recited in unison at public events, and especially in public school classrooms, where the pledge if often a morning ritual... ( when i was a child).. nomoreguilt and i... talk about the way we were raised alot.
him as a jehovah's withness and myself as a catholic.
back years ago as a young child in grade school, i remember a boy horrible teasing, taunting a younger boy that was waiting for the school bus.

Most people are proud to live in the country of their choice. But that country, like Canada and The US, came to be as a result of sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of lives. Millions worldwide too.
For that I am eternally grateful. So I express it in suttle ways.
The Witnesses are not allowed to be proud of their country. People died to allow those with little or no pride to live in a country where an individual can practice whatever they wish. No one needs to salute anything, but if you choose not to, it is a sign of a self esteem issue.
Too bad pride is not part of their inner self. That's why they are what they are.
To me, I am proud of the effort all those years ago, of the individuals that made North America a continent where everyone can worship as they please. Even if you feel it necessary to shun the soldiers and others that gave you the freedom to worship as you wish.

With all the difficulty having Witnesses as employees, it's a good idea to avoid their employment. Actually it's a better idea to avoid them. Period.

If you think I am a bit jaded, you are correct. You see, sir, that a self inflicted gun shot killed my younger brother at age 35 on my daughters 5th birthday. If you think I don't deserve an opinion on the evils of a gun, I just hope your family never experiences what hell I went through on April 8, 1995. I also lost a mom whose heart was broken from what had happened. She died shortly after at just 69 .My surviving brother won't speak to me because I was not there to help him, and my daughter experienced suicide by her uncle and was devastated. Her dperession is just healing now-12 years later.
So screw the lectures-I need no bullshit from you or anyone else.
BTW-so one kid has his shit together. Good for your son , but what about the millions of other kids exposed to the violence?
If you wish to communicate with me, next time try being a bit more compassionate. Otherwise just ignore my comments.
Sorry to the rest of you who may be a bit upset by reading this but if my brother did not have a gun, we would still be together.
Only those who lost family (from suicide) will understand the hurt that never seems to go away completely. Good night.
