in the truth (as they say) were people really shocked at you leaving or thought of it as only a matter of time !
As a convert I didn't find it easy being a JW, mainly because my then husband wasn't a JW and I was very unhappy in my marriage any way. I was quite active at one time in the preaching and attending all the meetings regularly. When I was ds'd I hadn't attended a JC (didn't even know about it), but found out after when they started shunning me. At that time my home life had gone down the pan and my life was chaotic because of my alcohol problem. I don't know what the reaction was amongst the JW's.

thought it might be interesting to put a perspective on things.
while many here have had terrible experiences at the hands of jw's and the wtbts, are there religions that you know of which are any worse?
for example, jw's might disfellowship a member who became known as a thief, but they don't chop off your hand.
I think Plymouth Brethren must come quite high up the list.
Fe203Girl - I once knew a woman who converted to become a JW after growing up in the Plymouth Brethren. This woman had been married and had children too so after leaving she lost all her family completely. When I knew her she was married to a JW and said that the only difference between the Brethren and the JW's was in the door to door preaching and that was why she converted. Poor woman! All she really did was change one mind-control cult for another one and she lost her family into the bargain.

greetings and warm wishes to everyone out there...
this is my first post here on the site, though i have spent many countless hours as a guest reading and reading your posts and conversations.
they have been a great encouragement to me, who as a young woman was disfellowshipped from the society about nine years ago.
Welcome Moxie to JWD and thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I went through the same pain when I was ds'd and was shunned by my son. As is the case with you, it was something I could never come to terms with and the sadness never went. I didn't know the truth about the WT either so was still under mind control and eventually was reinstated. Now I have been released from the hold the WT had on my mind which I will forever be grateful for and JWD has helped me so much with the support I find here. I look forward to reading your posts.

some bibles use the term "worship" when refering to jesus...at times people did fall down and bow to him........this doesn't show he was god!
the greek term; proskeyneo, means to prostrate oneself, to bow down and show honour.
now, this was done for jehovah.....and his representatives....jesus israelite kings and priests....but for the honour of jehovah not as creature worship which even angels would refuse.. also i studied the non-biblical early church gospels which really does show a slow decline over 150 years, into the trinity as the watchtower claims...........although i still hate the watchtower society at least i learnt something that wasn't a lie..
Since my exit from the JW's I have tried to understand the Trinity teaching much better. Just because it isn't easy to understand doesn't make it wrong and I now believe that Jesus is deity and not a superior angel as I believed as a JW.

i was thinking today how easy it was for jesus to recruit his disciples and how long he had to wait for them.
they just left their livelihood and their family to follow him.. does this really seem realistic?
did jesus already have a reputation at this time.

Does this really seem realistic? Or was there more that we don't know? Did Jesus already have a reputation at this time. Did the ordinary people know Jesus well enough to become his follower?
truthseeker - If you had the Son of God invite you to be his follower, would you hesitate?

that's right guys.
as i told you before, they boe have been considering me for the eldership.
which i don't care for, but since my family is stuck in this cult, i guess i can use the new position to help them see that the holy spirit has nothing to do with me being an elder.
Well each to their own I suppose
Maddie
let me start by stating that i'm not a jehovah's witness but have family who have been discussing it with me and i am hoping for a better answer than i have gotten thus far.
i can find no scriptural backing for jesus being the arch-angel michael.
in fact i find things that seem to show me that they are two distinctly different beings.
Every religious cult has the characteristic of demoting Jesus in some way. It is so that they can put a hierarchy in his place so that the r/f have to obey them instead of recognising Jesus as the sole mediator.

the memorial is supposed to be held in nisan 14, jewish calendar.
that day is april 19, 2008. why is the memorial being held this coming saturday march, 22?
does anybody know?
All Jesus said was to keep doing it in remembrance of him, so all the hype about the right or wrong date is ridiculous IMO
