how can i help my son?.
after speaking with my son (a jw) today, i realise that he has many hurt feelings that he hasn't dealt with.
his childhood affected him more deeply than i realised because he hasn't really opened his heart like he did today.

I am sure my son isn't doing drugs but I will do my best to try and get him thinking about other interests and what potential he has outside of the borg. He used to be a really good athlete and football (soccer) player. I used to take him to all his football matches and he won lots of trophies - I was very proud of him. I still am proud of him because he has always had a lovely caring side to his nature,even with the problems he has from his childhood.

My son is not a teenager. He is in his twenties, married to a JW and they have a baby.
He did embrace the "truth" when he was at a very difficult time in his life, and I am sure it was this unhappiness that influenced him greatly. He is in a "bubble" that he wants to protect himself from the realities of life. Some people use drugs or alcohol as a way of escaping, other people use religion. It has protected him in many ways and given him a support system and lots of friends. His wife also became a JW when a teenager with a very troubled past.
The last thing I want to do is to be the instrument of causing my son or his wife any more pain. As has been said though, he is only shutting out dealing with issues and I know from experience that they will, sooner or later rise to the surface. The fact that he is giving his life to the WT, being exploited because of his vulnerability and trust is unforgivable. It is also hindering him from seeking out real help in dealing with his issues and fulfilling his potential.
The other problem I have is that I Want to leave the JW's myself (trying to fade), and am only doing it this way because of not wanting to lose contact with my son. If I want to help him then I need to be able to talk to him! I find it very difficult to keep up the pretence as it is so stressful, but I can't see any other option.

I grew up in a small village that was just being incorporated into a new town. My family on my dad's side went back generations in the same village, as did most of the other families that were living there. My nan lived next door to us and two of my aunts and uncles lived a few hundred metres away from us. Everyone new eachother and there was a fair bit of gossipping going on, but we could always rely on people for help.
My mum told me she had a hard time when she and my dad announced they planned to marry, as my dad's parents had a village girl in mind for my dad and my mum had come from Wales. Rather quaint by todays standards.

i recently posted a topic on loosing it with my father, so some of you would know my nan isnt doing well.
they finally got rid of the infection on monday we were all relieved.
I am sorry to hear of your sadness over your nan Es.
The fond memories you have are stored in your heart so may they bring you comfort in the days ahead.

i been thinking about friends i have had in my life.
there are different types of friends,most come and go for different reasons.
some friendships are conditional like jw's, but true frienship is something really special.. the heart needs friendship to make us feel that we belong to life.. we need special people who accept us just as we are, who make us laugh when we need to,.

who cry with us when we're sad, and who are there for us when we're down.
Everyone needs allies and people who won't desert us and on whom we can really depend -
people who stand in for family members who aren't there for us sometimes.
Those special people who feel the same way as us about so many things,
communicating on the same wave length, being the strongest support system ever.
Your friendship is a gift beyond measure.

That is a good idea Hortensia. I have spoken to him about Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-anon and their programme of recovery already, but if I get the book then I think there is a good chance he will at least look at it. At least I can try.

i normally come on here, and am strong and very vocal in me distain for the borg and all the things it entailed.
just feeling a bit sad for myself tonight and wanted to tell my friends.. my birthday was yesterday.

i know i've run into quite a few weirdos.
i had one guy that told us that adolph hitler was going to come back from the dead to kill all jws.
needless to say, he didn't want a copy of the watchtower!
I was doing some door knocking with another JW and we came to a large building, set apart from the other houses on it's own. It wasn't on the list but we deciced to go and knock anyway.
It took a while for someone to come to the door and we could hear the sound of keys and bolts being pulled back. When the door opened a tall hairy man stood there. I delivered my usual banter, but he just stared and didn't say anything for what seemed ages. His eyes were starey and I wasn't sure if he heard me so I held out a magazine but he still didn't move or say anything. Then he just went in and slammed the door and we could hear the locks turning again. I never have forgotten it!
