I heard that "testimony" before, too. Though, our's used a Catholic priest instead. Probably regional...

I think an undercover apostate was sitting near me at the meeting this afternoon
by hoser inthis brother was sitting near me today at the hall and when the public speaker started talking about the signs of the last days this guy started whispering something to his wife and kind of mocking the speaker in a quiet voice.
his wife looked really pissed off.. i've suspected this guy before by some of the stuff he's said and done and some of the #3 talks hes given he's gone off the assigned topic quite a bit.. during the wt study i was doing mics and i happened to walk by him several times.
his wt was on the floor and his bible was opened to topic for conversation at the end of the bible at the last days part.. a little while later his wife gave him the look and said something to him and he picked up his unprepared wt and followed along.. hoser.

Cyrus the Great was the Jewish Messiah?
by sabastious inhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/history_of_ancient_israel_and_judah.
the biblical historythe hebrew bible contains "myths, legends and folktales, sagas, heroic epics, oral traditions, annals, biographies, narrative histories, novellae, belles lettres, proverbs and wisdom-sayings, poetry (including erotic poems ...), prophecy, apocalyptic, and much more ... the whole finally woven into a composite, highly complex literary fabric sometime in the hellenistic era.
"[2] although tradition ascribes them to times and authors contemporaneous with events, they were in fact written in many cases considerably after the times they describe and by authors with a clear religious and nationalist agenda, and it is therefore critical to treat them with circumspection.[3].

The idea of messiah is different to the Jewish people than it is to Christians. The Hebrew word for messiah actually means "anointed one" and does not imply any ransom sacrifice, perfection, or divine nature.
You have to look at it from the point of view of the author to get what he means. Namely: Cyrus the Great was used by God to do 'such and such.'

Adam and Eve were NEVER perfect.
by gaiagirl injw's frequently say that the first human couple were "perfect" and would have lived forever until they gave up perfection by their disobedience.. however, closer reading of the genesis account shows that they were never perfect, instead, they were designed to grow old and die, just like the rest of the animals.
jehovah has adam name all the animals, but finds that none of the animals is suitable as a companion (wonder how this was determined)?.
jehovah clones a companion for adam, and tells them to not eat the fruit of a certain tree, or they will die "in that very day".

@ still thinking:
My whole relationship with God changed when I stopped trying to jam Him into a "human thought" box. We can't know His true nature because he is not like us -human.
I read the stories in the bible as life lessons, as if it is a book I found at the bookstore. Stories have value, even when they are fiction, because they are written by people who are trying to describe life. The more perspective you get about life, the more you understand.
I experienced enough theological backflips to last me a lifetime in the JWs. There is no value in trying to make every ENGLISH word that has been translated a million different ways fit into an elaborate pretzel of (anti)logic.
Who cares if Jehovah is God's name? Or if Jesus is Michael? Or if Satan is YHWH, even? My perception of God and my understanding of Him, through what I see of His creation, is not based on what His name is, or isn't.
Just say NO to theological pretzels!!!

I've come to view the Adam and Eve story as being like growing up and moving out.
First We are safe in an artificially nurturing environment where we play and eat and sleep, minimal work, and someone bigger than us takes responsibility for us and provides for our needs. *Garden of Eden*
We get older and suddenly we begin to learn what life is really all about and begin to make some decisions for ourselves. We develop our own tastes and question our parents ideas. *Tree of Knowledge*
We are encouraged to leave the nest and go to college or get a job or start our own family. Sometimes it is a good separation, sometimes bad. Our parents curse us by saying they hope our kids are just like us -crazy. *Leaving Eden*
We get a job (plowing for bread) have kids (childbirth) and deal with our own family dramas. Then we return to our parents for advice and continue a relationship that is more two-sided. *After Eden, ie Noah, Moses, etc*
The only thing missing is the spinning sword of fire guarding the parent's door. Though I glimpse it sometimes when my brothers ask to move back in -LOL!
This story tells about the journey of life. It has been embellished over the years, but teaches us how much growing up can hurt, but that we will survive. Also, to appreciate how our parents care for us as children so we can return the favor when they grow old. *ideally*

So where are you now?
by fade_away inare any of you on here not living the dreams you had as a kid because of the "no higher education" rule?.
i was a born in jw and remained one until the age of 25. by my late teens i knew what i wanted to do with my life.
i'm about to write a lengthy history explaining why i'm not currently in the carreer i wanted, so you can skip this boring story and just comment if you want to.. i was raised to be a loyal jw and since birth already had many goals chosen for me.

I started college at 27 as a single mother of 2 kids. I have worked 2-3 part time jobs at a time to pay my rent while carrying 15-24 credits a semester. I have won thousands of dollars in scholarships (I go after the little ones that no 18-year-old wants to write an essay for)and taken out some student loans.
I believe that I was meant to travel the path I walked and my perspective is wider because of it. You are in control of your own destiny. It is not too late to live your dream!

Df'd and Meetings
by IMHO inwhy the set procedures for ones that are df'd when attending meetings?.
(i think i know the answer to this but i look forward to your thoughts first).
-

"If they don't leave immediately, what happens? Does an elder come up and ask them to leave?"
Any DF'ed person attending meetings is working toward reinstatement. They are unlikely to stretch the rules given to them since the elders laying down the law are the ones who will decide when they have shown a "humble and repentant spirit" and are worthy of returning.
So the elders may talk to a DF who did not leave promptly. And the DF will tread on eggshells to please these elders. Some elders are overly tough on them because A) they feel it is good to show "tough love" *blech,* and B) they enjoy the power of their unearned authority.
Belligerent DFs will not usually attend the meetings.

@Moshe - 11 kids!!!
I think you are right about no invites. I would bet that poor mom seriously needed an invite or two just to reconnect with the rest of the world. My mom did and she only had 4 of us.
