I decided not to go to the IFB church I been attending
by andys ini have been going to an ifb baptist type church for about past 3 months, i started going in march and have decided to quit going, need advice on how to send them a letter i don't want to go anymore, its a soulwinning, king james onlyism type church, wow are they ever putting pressure on me to be in church every time the doors are open, i explain to them that i work alot of overtime, have my own home to take care of, also i have my ham radio hobby that i am involved in and also like to do volunteer type work, since i been missing alot of church every sunday i get a phone call from the pastor on why i wasn't in church, now i am to the point where i don't even answer my phone anymore when they call, but wow the pressure, its very irritating how legalistic church attendance for certain churches has gotten.. .
on the other hand i have decided that i still want to go to some sort of church, for a very short time in februiary i was going to a communicty type church where everyone is wearing something different, i noticed that alot of people wear blue jeans, even the pastor wears blue jeans, also its a non denominational type church that has alot of volunteer opportunities which i love doing, i have decided to go back to the non denomminational type church since i don't feel no pressure there.. .

What is Your Experience with Non-Christian Religions and Philosophy ONLY?
by MrDarkKnight ini have been slow to start a thread because i wanted to see what topics were already being discussed.
having left wt i have a disdain for organized christian religion at the moment.
i am interested in your experience, research or observations about non-christian religions and philosophy only.

I loved Mitch Albrom's "Have a Little Faith" because it explores cooperation between different faiths from a Jewish viewpoint. I also enjoyed More Than Matter?" by Keith Ward, which was my first experience with philosophy.

I attended services with the Quakers for a while. They were extremely accepting and open. I was so lost when I started with them, but I was able to explore many religious ideas and philosophical tangents with them. I'm sure that the experience would vary depending on the group, but mine was great.
I am currently attending at a Reform Jewish synagogue. They are also very accepting and open to different ideas, but focus on religious topics than philosophy.
Is there a certain group that you are interested in trying?

If JW's had not claimed to have the truth
by FlyingHighNow inhave you ever thought about your perceptions of the wtbts, how they would have differed had they not been spouting, "we have the truth!
" every other sentence?
if they had never said, "are you 'in the truth?'.

It was the controlling nature of the JWs that drove me away. The arrogance and smugness are the result of having a group that is so tightly controlled.
Re: Nancy Garrido comments
It is very convenient to claim that a criminal is not a JW, because a JW would never commit a crime. And if a JW committed a crime, s/he would not be a true JW. I have heard Christians say the same thing: "A 'true Christian' would not have done that!" Words can twist truth and make it appear to be different, but words can never actually change truth.
Besides, a true JW glows, we are pleasant, kind, loving and we are the happiest people on the earth.
I just threw up in my mouth a little bit...

She shows too much cleavage. What should I say to her?
by Iamallcool ini met a gorgeous lady yesterday and she shows too much cleavage.
i see her facebook page, all of her pictures has cleavage in them, i would not want to date her because she shows too much all the time.
i am tempted to tell her to cover up her cleavage, she might not like me telling her that.

Sometimes you gotta let the girls out for some air. It just isn't right to keep them locked up.
I wear low cut tops most of the time. I show an appropriate amount of cleavage in most places, an inappropriate amount for special occasions. None of my boyfriends have cared, but the guys who don't like it would probably not ask me out.
Why are you pursuing her if you don't like the way she presents herself? There are plenty of girls out there who dress differently; go after them!

Logical Questions to Make Them Think?
by sweet pea inthis has no doubt been covered before and if anyone has any favourite threads on this subject perhaps they could post them here .
what are your best one liners/questions to make jw's think?.
i had a heated conversation with my mum this weekend and apart from mainly going round in circles (as is often the case with brainwashed cult members) one thing made her stop and i could see that she was having major trouble processing the logic.

sweet pea - I was thinking the same thing! My hope is that something (or a combo of all) that I say will cause her to soften up a bit in her heart. I will keep my fingers crossed for both of our moms. ((hugs))

I have asked my mom what she would do if the WT changed their view of blood (right before the blood fractions became 'ok') and she parroted the light gets brighter, yadda yadda yadda.
Then I asked what she would do if the WT changed it's view of Jesus' ransom sacrifice. She said they wouldn't because it was clearly stated in the bible.
So the blood doctrine isn't in the bible? - Not as clearly as the ransom - So then, you could be disfellowshipped for not following a doctrine not clearly stated in the bible?

My mom made the statement (again) the other day that if there were only JWs on the earth, we would not need government or money and that there would be no homeless people or hungry people. I deviated from my usual arguments - what about the governing body, won't they take charge from heaven? what about the fights that exist right now between the congregations that share your kingdom hall, will they magically stop? and, anyone can see that, if over 99% of the population was gone, food and resources would be plentiful for a while - and said, "That didn't work out so well after the flood, did it?"
She stopped and looked at me with a blank expression. I asked, "Didn't He destroy everyone except the faithful ones - 6 people - and humans still went back to evil ways within a few generations? Wouldn't the same thing happen if everyone but the faithful were destroyed tomorrow?"
Of course she said that Satan led them astray. So I asked if that meant that the humans could not stay faithful to God unless there was no temptation present. She wound her way around a bit before conceding that WT policies - mainly the chaperone for all dating couples - suggested that faced with temptation anyone would sin.
So, I asked, "Does that mean we would be just like Adam and Eve and fail the test of loyalty if Satan tempts us?" She said no.
So I asked why God had to destroy Satan. Couldn't we just not fall into temptation? She said no, God has to destroy Satan to make the earth a paradise. Satan would destroy paradise.
I asked, "By tempting loyal, faithful people?"
"well... not everyone can withstand temptation."
"So, wouldn't it be better for God to keep Satan around to thin out the riff-raff who can't stay faithful under hard times?"
Horrified!! "Angela! Are you suggesting that Satan not be punished for all the harm he has done?!?"
"I am suggesting that Satan hasn't physically done anything. Humans have performed all of the actions that you attribute to Satan. I would never punish my older son for the actions of his brother, even if he told him to do it, because my younger son knows the rules. He should obey them regardless of what his brother says. Should Satan be punished for simply telling people to do something wrong, when the people knew God's rules.
If the JWs can't keep from sinning if Satan is around, should they be considered faithful?"
She just shook her head, but I could see that I made her think about the whole idea of sin and faithfulness. She is pretty stubborn so I am sure she will hit back with something next time I see her. It has taken me a while to get her to the point that she will even discuss these things with me - the evil apostate - so I don't push too hard.

reading a life time of WT literatrash = College education
by Free!! inor at least that's what my super jw ex-roommate told me when i try to have an adult discussion w her about the importance of a higher education... according to her (a girl that never finished hs because it was not necessary) she has a better education than any college graduate because the jehovah has used the borg literatrash to teach her many many important things.... she says her knowledge of the "truth" is the equivalent of my 4 years of college education..... .
.
is there a cure for stupid???!!

JonathanH: If your wife has been out of high school long enough, she doesn't need to take the ACTs or SATs. I didn't, but I was out for 11 years before enrolling in college. Or, she could audit a course -no enrollment = no testing. It is usually cheaper, less intimidating, and less of a commitment on her part - since she is reluctant - but gives her a taste of what college is like.

I liked the southpark episode where all the people are in hell and they are mad. They keep interrupting the orientation meeting, one guy says "but I'm a practising Jehovah's Witness!!" Finally they ask who was right and the hell director says, "Mormon, the correct answer was Mormon," and there is a collective groan.
Here is the clip...
LOL!
