Here's an update to what has happened since I used the words, "Big News," five years ago
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/scandals/103353/1/the-news-is-bigger-than-dateline-bbc-cbc-etc.
as many of you know, i made the "big news" statement when kerry louderback-wood's scholarly article about watch tower's blood misrepresentation that was published in the journal of church and state was just about to be published.
i was excited about it because lives were at stake and weve never had such an article before to be able to use to show how the watch tower misrepresents the blood issue through its literature and people die because of it.

It was that article in the newspaper that talked about Kerry Louderback-Wood's tort on blood transfusions. After that I started asking questions of the other elders which eventually got me removed and got me looking beyond the Watchtower publications. It was a turning point in my life.

Is it just human nature to gossip or are JW's worse? Feelings are hurt....
by mamalove init is so strange how once you distance yourself from your kingdom hall and friends, that they find it necesary to discuss and contemplate your departure and put out all kinds of statements that simply are not true.. i am licking my wounds today because some kind of nasty things were said about me to a friend of mine who is df, from her ubber righteous sister.
it was via text, so it was there to read.
the thing i can't figure out is i have nothing to do with this woman.

Mrs. Jones says it very simply in one sentence:
Folks gossip to make themselves feel better about their sorry lives.
JW's have sorry lives so when someone leaves their sorry lives they dream up some kind of story that makes the one who has left out to have a sorry life even though often times those that have left are much happier. So the gossip runs rampant. They also gossip about those who are in who aren't real uber Jdubs and they gossip about those in the world and they even gossip about those that are more active then they are and they gossip about the world and about life and.....
YES, I THINK JW's are worse but of course maybe we're are just gossiping here LOL

Are you a fader, Df'd, DA'd, or Still In?
by brotherdan ini thought this would be an interesting poll that would show everyone the backgrounds of all of us when we left, if we have.. for myself, i am not df'd, but i am attempting a fade.
i still go to some meetings with the wife to help with kids, but that's it.
no commenting or field service.. what about everyone else?.

Wish I could DA but I've got close family still in so I'm a fader did a quick fade starting in 2007 and haven't been to a meeting since except for a memorial.
I guess you could say I've totally faded out they've pretty much shunned me though not formally.

How do I get them to leave me alone?
by Mr. Falcon inwhy does every ex-elder who went through so much turmoil while being an elder always whine to me about how much it sucked, yet when i mention that i don't want to be one, they suddenly get all nostalgic and tell me what a blessing it is to serve as an e-man?.
elder.. period.. maybe i might have a change of heart one day if they actually require these men to have some sort of actual psychological/communication training or if they start handing out paychecks.
but until then, i respectfully decline.. .

Tell them your not really sure you agree with the blood doctrine as it now stands. If they ask why, tell them that you wonder why certain parts of blood can be taken based on YOUR conscience yet other parts of blood cannot be taken regardless of what YOUR conscience says. Then tell them, you'll let them know if you change your mind.
That was what got me wiped off the books as an elder. Best thing that ever happened to me because that's what helped me to realize it was a cult.

Why should you always be the one that has to compromise for their benefit ? If it was the other way around would they allow or even ask you to say a blessing over a dinner ? Do they accomandate any of your personal beliefs ?
This is such a good point troubled mind.
I often noticed how my family and neighbors tried to do things to please us when we were in the cult. They were always careful not to say "merry christmas" or "happy birthday" they would ask me to say a prayer at dinners and they were always careful not to say things they thought might offend us. Yet those in the cult never go out of their way to do the same.

Smurf Rumors - 2 Questions
by A question inas the board no doubt knows, there was some sort of rumor in the early 1980s going around amongst the witnesses that a smurf doll came to life in the kingdom hall, or that smurfs were demonic.. 2 questions:.
1. do any not remember any such rumors though they were witnesses at the time?.
2. of those who do, did all the witnesses believe them, or otherwise, what proportion rejected the rumor as nonsense?.

No No No, it wasn't a rumor, it was true. I personally saw a dozen smurfs running around our Kingdom Hall at any given time. They would jump up on the seats and knock songbooks on the floor and turn the pages of peoples bibles and turn the sound down while someone was making a comment. They were annoying and disrupted many meetings. Then all of a sudden one day, they just stopped. They fell over right where they were standing and became in-animate again. I think it was because someone in the hall shouted out really loud, JEHOVAH and they all just dropped over. It was quite a sight.
