First, your nan is in her early 80s if she was born in 1925 ;-), and second wasn't that convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, in 1922?
In fact, wasn't the gist of the announcement that the END or the resurrection of the "ancient worthies" was supposed to happen in 1925, therefore "millions now living will never die"?
Here's a quote from the book bearing the same name:
"Based upon the argument heretofore set forth, then, that the old order of things, the old world, is ending and is therefore passing away, and that the new order is coming in, and that 1925 shall mark the resurrection of the faithful worthies of old and the beginning of reconstruction, it is reasonable to conclude that millions of people now on the earth will be still on the earth in 1925. Then, based upon the promises set forth in the divine Word, we must reach the positive and indisputable conclusion that millions now living will never die."

millions now living will never die [ or did they]
by jacethespace ini just cant understand why the watchtower still holds to this convention from 1933, that millions now living will never die.my nan was born in 1925 and shes in her late 80s.so who was the watchtower refering to when they said that they would never die.it coudnt have been people who were middle aged back then or older.and i cant believe they were just talking to people between the ages of 7-20 or so either that wouldnt fit the " millions " hype.yet its still refered to today in meetings and in the revelation book as a very important event.

Tipping your hat to a lady is demonic
by marmot in...according to the watchtower.
i don't have access to the watchtower library right now (i've only got a mac) but i remember laughing my arse off when i read that in an old questions from readers.
apparently tipping your hat to a lady is considered demonic because it shows deference to the lesser of the sexes, a man putting himself below the woman and other rambling "reasoning" about its origins in medieval times and such garbage.

Awesome, thanks Gopher.
(BTW, my choice of screen name is completely coincidental.) -

Couldn't be, 'cause I definitely read it on a computer screen off of the WT CD-ROM and that cuts off at 1950.

Kinda pointless now since men don't wear hats (as a rule) as a fashion accessory and the practice of tipping your hat is pretty much forgotten, but it's a great point of reference to show the WT's ridiculous dogmatism on minor issues (birthdays, beards, cross versus stake, etc) in its quest to be "different" from Babylon the Great.
If someone has access to the CD could you copy and paste the reference? -

Have you ever refused a "Privilege"
by JH ini refused to give a bible study to some kid.
i figured that many tried and didn't succeed.. i also didn't feel ready for that, nor did i want to drag him to each meeting after that, since he had no family in the org.
the elders weren't happy with my decision.. bottom line, you can't say no, without any consequences..

They wanted to make me a MS but I "refused" in a way because I wouldn't bump my field service hours despite repeated pleas. I honestly didn't want to be in any sort of leadership position when I had doubts myself.
When I just moved into my latest congregation in May I didn't bother asking to be on the school and nobody's bothered to bring the matter up so I'm satisfied. -

Has the WTS changed its view on carbon dating?
by Jourles ini remember back to my high school days when the blue evolution or creation book was all the rage.
in it, i recall the wts using several reasons as to why we cannot trust carbon dating whatsoever.
has there been any change in their thinking in the last 15 or so years or any new developments on this front?

I'd LOOOOVE to know what the current reasoning is on this, too. I'm an avid history buff, especially Native American history and there is loads of radiocarbon evidence that humans were here over 10 thousand years ago.
There are many instances of Clovis points found preserved in-situ in extinct ice age megafauna remains such as mammoths and giant bison, all carbon dated more than 11000 BP (before present). -

Tuna Fish Blood
by Dogpatch inthis was contributed to me by someone who wishes to remain anon:.
jehovahs witnesses governing body and tuna fish blood.
since the inception of the watchtower organization in modern times, the leaders overseeing millions of jehovahs witnesses have claimed to be none other than jesus exclusive spirit appointed leaders known collectively as the faithful and discreet slave class, having received this divine distinction early in the twentieth century.

Interesting topic. Reminds me of one time we were having lobster when I was a kid and my dad was eating the green goo inside it (spread on toast it's pretty good) and I pointed out to him that he was eating the cooked blood of the lobster, since lobster blood doesn't contain hemoglobin but uses copper to transport oxygen it is green instead of red.
He basically told me to shut up and mind my own business. -

I am stupid...
by metaspy ini just thought i would give a little update on my fade.. for starters, i found a new job and will be starting soon.. secondly, i found the job far enough away that a move to a new apartment is necessary.. thus i have achieved two of the major parts of my fade at once.. i will not be working for a brother, nor renting from one.. .
however, another part of my fade is my wanting to get out zelda, the girl i have loved for quite some time.. recently she tried to commit suicide again.. i have gone to see her every day since she went into the hospital.. this is more than i can say of the brother she is courting.. .
her mother is df'd, we shall call her kairi.

Sorry to come off sounding harsh, I'm a bit hardened and cynical but it REALLY sounds like you're just setting yourself up for punishment.
Good luck in your endeavors and although I know you'll never truly give up those feelings of love for that girl, it's really for the best that you walk away. -

Is it all just a 'Cosmic Crapshoot'?
by AK - Jeff infirst my faith in the wts went away.. later my faith in religion [for purposes other than fellowship] went away.
to date, my faith in the existence of the 'great cause' remains, but is tarnishing in some respects.
i have no clear picture of what we really are, where we are really going, and why we exist.

I think the Epicureans had it right all along. The only thing we are certain of in life is death so we should live life to the fullest and try to be the best people we can be so that other people and our descendants can enjoy their lives fully as well.
Once we're dead we'll find out if there truly is another side to all of this, but it's useless arguing over something that no one has seen.
My philosophy is: be happy and don't interfere with the happiness of others. -

Deal with it and move on. Does the girl even return your interest, given that you say she's already "courting" someone else?
Plus, the multiple suicide attempts and a potentially terrible future mother in law already opposed to you don't add up to a very rosy prospect for a stable relationship.
Sometimes we build things up to much in our minds so that we can't see reality. I broke my heart over a girl once and even though I still have the occasional nightmare, I can rationally look back and see how it would have never worked.
