This brings up a very disturbing aspect of the witness "hope" namely is it better to die young but faithful or live a long productive life?
Many times when I still considered myself in "the truth" I found myself wishing to get cancer or some other incurable disease, or to get run over by a bus or something, because if you die faithful then you'll be resurrected into paradise. Living a long life seems like a pointless exercise in suffering when you think about it in that light.
Since the Bible also says there will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous, what's the point of waiting anyway? Why not all commit mass suicide and skip the queue?
Jehovah's witnesses aren't really living at all, they're just "holding out" until Armageddon. When the paradise comes THEN they'll start living.
I'm glad I don't believe in the Bible anymore, such a depressing book. -

Saw best jw friend at club...didn't shun me
by tall penguin inback in may i went to a nightclub and ended up seeing one my best jw friends, a friend who refused to say goodbye when i was in the process of disassociating because he was so upset with me.
we'd known each other since we were kids.
our moms were close.

He probably didn't shun you because of a guilty conscience. Going to clubs around this neck of the woods definitely earmarks you as "bad association" and you can expect a back-room discussion and a local needs talk if you're ever ratted out.
I personally dislike clubs so it was never a problem for me, but the other "young ones" received earfuls of "counseling" on the matter. -

I was in Winnipeg when this girl first went into the hospital and it was downright macabre how everyone was treating her as if she had died already (this was BEFORE the forced transfusion).
I wonder if she feels cheated out of an express ticket to paradise?
As an added weird coincidence, the Winnipeg Sun SUNshine girl in that link (the redhead Cayleigh) is someone I worked with last summer. We both sold hideously expensive vacuum cleaners with a bunch of other young people. Small freaking world. -

The Screws are tightening! Fear is paramount for mind control to work!
by Gill ini have recently been noticing my mother's and other relatives' increased fervent and frantic activity in the wt society.. i wondered why they are becoming so fanatical and decided to take an indepth look at the latest watchtowers.. i believe there is a very worrying trend in the wt society now for a apocalyptic zeal that borders on fanaticism and now the wt is tightening the screws with its demand for 'cultic obedience.'.
in the past i wondered whether another 'jonestown,' or similar scenario, was possible, but though the wt may well not ask its members to take their own lives i wonder what the wtbts will ask them to do.. notice these quotes from the december 15th watchtower for 2007:.
page 18 paragraph 15:.

Yeah, it's really sad because my mother is losing her mind because I told her I don't believe the WTBTS anymore. She breaks down into tears and says "Don't turn your back on Jehovah, we are SO close to the end!"
I hate seeing my mom like this. She should be enjoying the years of her life, not living in petrified fear.
The only thing I'm going to say to everyone when/if I'm forced to DA is: "You are all going to die of old age, so am I (barring unforeseen occurrence). If the Bible says there is a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous and 'the wages sin pays is death' then I'll let god sort things out after that." -

The poor grammar and sentence structure makes it sound like one of those Nigerian scams.
I wouldn't be surprised if some con artist has figured out a way to tap into this. -

JW Stance On Joining The YMCA
by Justitia Themis ini have been emailing with several jws in my congregation about the osce issue.
i pointed out the hypocrisy of not allowing us to join the ymca, but then having osce ngos.
one sister emailed me that a sister in her congregation just received a letter from the society stating that it is ok for her to to join the y. she needed to join for rehab purposes.

Back when I was shopping around for a gym, my Gilead graduate Uncle actually suggested the YMCA because it was closer and more convenient, but when I mentioned that to one of my pioneer friends she looked at me as if I had just had sex with the pope. She said that joining the YMCA was tantamount to going to a church of christendom because they keep membership records that show you as being one of them.
Bunch of horse manure if you ask me. -

Wow, it just clicked. I'm agnostic!
by marmot ini honestly don't think i've ever been this happy in my life.
of course, i've got bipolar ii so i might just be edging on a bout of hypomania but i'm good at taking my med so this could very well be genuine!
i'm so excited at the new look on life this has given me.

After more careful thought on the matter, I guess I am an atheist after all. Or at least an agnostic leaning really far towards atheism.

Thanks, that was a really good one.
I get the "where else will I (you) go?" argument thrown at me whenever I try to explain to my parents that I don't believe the WT society is "the truth."
It's really, really frustrating. -

Do you still fear an elder visit, when you see a car drive up slowly...
by JH inwhen you see a car drive slowly in front of your house, do you still think it may be an elder coming by to see you?.
i remember a few years ago, each time a car drove by slowly in front of here, expecially around 7pm on evenings when there was no meetings, or on saturday mornings, i got away from the window, and looked outside from another window where i wouldnt be seen, incase it was an elder coming to see me.. if it was the case, i would turn off the tv so that there would be no noise when they would come to my door.
then they would leave after a few knocks.. since many years, they don't come anymore.. .

Not really, the visits never bother me because I've lost any fear of them. They no longer hold any power over my mind.
The only annoying thing is the prospect of them popping by when my place is a mess.
