Help needed: Killing the 'The light gets brighter' argument?
by jah1914 inso after the revelation study last night where the paragraph was talking about how russell's interpertation of revelation basically didn't work and got discarded, my wife comments with the same old,"the light gets brigther, that's why i respect fds because at least they will change when they figure out something is wrong.
" (insert vomit here) afterwards, me and the book study conductor(i have to at least give him credit, he is someone i can talk to freely about my questions and he has not,as of yet, turned me in) got into a discussion of what 'the light gets brighter' really means.
he basically says so the brothers have made changes, so what?

A light can only get so bright before it burns out! Keep that in mind.

My wife is from Trinidad. She is part Chinese, part Indian, part Spanish, part Caribe and part black all mixed up. She is very beautiful and has a very beautiful, unique skin tone. Some of the other people in her family, epecially aunts and cousins are very jealous of her skin and her hair. Some of them treat her specially because of this, others treat her poorly because they are jealous. I think it is soooooo stupid!
When my wife came to America she found that a lot of the black girls that she worked with were very catty with her because they were jealous of her hair! I don't know how we got on that topic.... oh yeah, you were talking about your half indian friend who's uncle said he could get 12 camels for her... when my wife was about 12, her grandmother had to chase off all of the men that were offering a dowery for her hand in marriage because she was soooo desireable! Her grandmother didn't like that tradition very much, because she was "sold off to the highest bidder" when she was a young girl.
So, I guess what I'm getting at is how stupid it is to be treated specially or treated badly just because of what combination of genes your parents happened to mix together, rather than people judging you by your character. But, that's life. I try not to live that way and I don't let that be a deciding factor in my opinion of someone.

I just meant that in the South (ah say, the South) , racism still seems to be commonplace and it's not that big of a surprise that it's come into play.
Mary, I have lived in both the north and the south. Trust me, there are racists and bigots everywhere. The neigborhood where I spent my childhood had racial tensions between blacks and Puerto Ricans. The Italians and Irish were not very fond of each other, either. The KKK is just as strong in New York and New Jersey as it is in rural Alabama or Georgia. It is just a stereotype that the South has inherited (and in times past deserved it). I've seen all kinds of racism, not just white against black.
I experienced much "reverse racism" in the area of Georgia that I lived in as an adolescent. I also noticed a lot of what a previous poster mentioned: Lighter skinned black people discriminating against darker-skinned black people. I had no idea such a thing existed until I attended my majority-black high school. Stupidity takes many forms, I guess.
I've lived in the south for a long time now and I haven't seen racism as commonplace, or at least no more common than anywhere else. I don't let it bother me because I've always judged everyone as an individual, and most people that I know are the same. Anyway, it's time for lunch and I have to go eat pizza. Yay! Talk to y'all later!

My daughter's half black. Well, not really. The black and white mixed together and kinda made tan..... She's beautiful. Nobody would ever suspect that she's my daughter. :) My daughter is so gorgeous I'm more afraid of how many boys will want to date her as opposed to how many who don't!
By the way, I bet your daughter is super hot, so if those people can't appreciate her, there's probably a line of guys waiting for their chance. Don't even let it bother you! Obviously they're a family of idiots.

I'm sure more than a few of you have seen the movie Devil's Advocate. At one point during the movie, Al Pacino give a speech about how "God" plays with our emotions. Basically, the gist of his argument is that "God" gave all of us very strong urges and desires and then forbids us from acting on those urges. I think that western religion as a whole operates this way. Rather than letting people coexist with nature as a whole, we must subdue and conquer nature, including our own basic urges. Sex is one of the biggest weapons that "God" AKA RELIGION uses to manipulate people. Sex, next to hunger and self-preservation is the strongest urge that people have. To severely restrict access to or deny people their basic physiological needs such as food, shelter or sex prevents them from reaching for higher goals. It's basic psychology. Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs.

So...I got duped today!
by lovelylil ini am one of those people who always gives money to those who ask me on the street.
the reason is because there was a time when i was a kid that my siblings and i needed to beg on the street for food money because mom and dad were both addicts.. anyway, i was on my way into walmart and a lady stopped me and asked if i could give her a few dollars ($5 to be exact) so that she could pick up a prescription for some medicine.
she explained that she and her kids have been sick with bronchitis and although the kids were better she was not and had run out of money until her check came on the first of the month.. i can also sympethize with having to wait for government checks to buy what you need having grown up on state welfare programs and i reasoned that $5 is nothing for me and my husband because combined we bring in over six figures a year income.

Wow, I know I already posted once, but there are a lot of heated comments on this topic. Like I've said before, I've been on both ends of the spectrum. I know what it's like to be in need, and I know what it's like to be able to give. I don't think that most people have a problem with giving, we just want to know that we're really helping somebody. When you give money to a panhandler, they're probably just tricking you and tugging on your heartstrings to get you to give them money. That's why they're out there. There are places they can go to get help and get back on their feet.
That's why I don't give money to them. I also don't donate to big, faceless "charitable" organizations that eat up most of their donations in "administrative" costs. I prefer to give only when I know that it is needed and that it is in fact going to help someone. I'm not hearltess; far from it. I like to give, I just don't like to get screwed by somebody playing on my emotions.

Go to http://www.trendmicro.com. Do a free online scan. It will remove viruses and spyware. Free of charge. Even though I have Norton Antivirus and Internet Security, I still to a trendmicro scan every once in a while because it catches stuff the even Norton doesn't catch.
