My biggie was the 1994-95 change about the "Generations". Um... yeah, base everything in your life around the promise that the 1914 generation won't pass away before "the end" comes. Fast forward to 1994.... Um.... yeah, it turns out that 99% of those people are dust now, so we gotta change the rules. Sucks to be you guys who wasted your whole life waiting for our prophecies to come true! What a load of crap. I immediately stopped paying attention to anything at the Kingdumb Hell. Guess what? It's 2008, and the end. ain't. here. yet. I guess there's still one old guy somewhere who was alive in 1914 desperately clinging to life in a nursing home somewhere. But, after he takes the eternal celestial dirt nap, Joe Hober is gonna get us all! Buwahahahaha!!!! NOT!

What big changes made by the Borg bothered you when you were in?
by LovesDubs ini came in in 1984. at that time they were beating it into us not to have kids or go to college because the end was soooo near and the generation that saw 1918 was about all dead and we couldnt go much further.
they were touting the whole peace and security cry and then there was the peace and security convention in like 1985 that had us all abuzz after which of course nothing happened.
then they went and changed the definition of the generation in 1994 saying of course since armageddon didnt come after the 80 years had gone by that defined the old one that they basically had to go to plan b...or plan m by now, and that the generation was now everybody since 1918 who has or will live during the time of the end ad infinitum!!!

Is it really true that the sited gasoline prices as one of the reasons? Ummmm...... gas has been extremely high-priced in the rest of the world forever. High gasoline prices are only a new phenomenon for those of us living in the United States. Just ask anybody from the UK, where they buy gasoline by the liter! They usually pay per liter what we pay per gallon. So, I guess that excuse really doesn't cut it for me. The real reason is that nobody wants to go to meetings during the week. People have to work, kids have to do homework and study and lets face it, how many damn times can you study the Revelation! book before your brain tries to escape through your earhole? Bottom lines, ALL JW meetings suck pendulous donkey scrotum and the attendence statistics confirm that fact. Now, if they could just cut it down to one meeting for an hour on Sunday and celebrate Christmas.....

Your most memorable Kingdom Hall meeting disruptions!

We had a strange guy who was "studying" at the time. He was way too friendly with little kids, now that I'm a lot older I think he was probably a flaming pedophile..... but anyway... Before the meeting one Tuesday night, we smell matches. This guy was downstairs lighting them and throwing them in the B school room. My dad caught him. I'm not sure what the result of that confrontation was, but I bet it had to be interesting.
Another time there was a robbery at the restaurant across the parking lot. The robber came in the Kingdom Hall and sat down with the rest of us. We had no clue who or what he was at the time. That is, until the police ran in and handcuffed him.

My dog and I like to teach each other tricks. I taught him how to beg and he taught my wife how to roll over and play dead.
I'm not saying my wife's cooking is bad, but the flies chipped in a few bucks to repair the screen door.....

Book study reminiscing - what was your memorable bookstudy experience.
by yadda yadda 2 ini must admit to feeling a bit nostalgic, sentimental now about the loss of the good old home book study arrangement.
there are many rather pleasant memories coming to the mind of various homes i attended for the book study.
i can still remember vividly most of them.. it had a warm, convivial, family feel about it.

When I was about 10 years old, our book study was held at a sister's house. She had some family members from out of town visiting with them for the week. They weren't witnesses, so they weren't in the study. Well, I went to use the bathroom down the hall, and when I walked in a young lady had just gotten out of the shower! I stood there for a second in shock as she screamed her head off. The whole study came to a grinding halt as everyone had to run down the hall to see what was happening. That was probably the strangest thing I've ever experienced at the book study, besides the book study itself.
Another time..... I was asked to be the reader a lot at the book studies, even at a young age because most of the would-be readers in the book study had a hard time reading the "big words" (you know, illiterates). One time while I was reading, the book study conductor actually fell asleep! He..... Fell..... Asleep! So, what did I do? Yep, I kept reading until he woke up! By the time he woke up, I was a few paragraphs ahead of schedule. The meeting ended early that night! Yay!
All in all, the book studies were a major bore to me growing up, because all the book study consisted of was reading a paragraph, asking a question about the paragraph and then re-reading the sentence(s) in the paragraph that answered the question. I used to tune out a lot and just read ahead and wait for it all to be over with.

fresh baked bread
by Nathan Natas ininspired by greendawn's cheese thread, i thought i would ask if anyone enjoyed baking the occasional loaf of bread.. i recently stumbled over a blog - farmgirl fare .
employing my ninja training soas to avoid being recognized as not a farmgirl, i read a paean to one of the easiest of all breads - baking soda beer bread.. it is simple: 3 cups of flour, one cup of your favorite grated cheese, one tablespoon of sugar, one tablespoon of baking powder, and one teaspoon of salt, mixed quickly with 12 oz of beer and plopped into a standard one pound (4" x 9") loaf pan, cooked for about 50 minutes at 375 degrees f.. (all measurements are in "american.").

I live in the South, but I'm originally from New Jersey. One of the things that's hard to find down here is good bread, especially rye bread. So, I learned how to make real traditional Jewish rye bread. It takes about a week to make because of the sourdough, but it is awesome. There is nothing like real rye bread. Every couple of months I'll have some free time and make a few loaves of it. Then I go buy some corned beef and sour kraut and make reuben sandwiches! Mmmmm.......

Gruyere is pretty good. I'm not into sharp cheddar, but I love mild cheddar.

What Careers, Opportunities Did you Have to Sacrifice - to be a Witness ?
by flipper ini know this may be an annoying subject .
but if you did have to give up doing what you wanted in a career or opportunity - what was it ?
how controlling was the organization over you, and were you counseled by elders or higher ups to not pursue certain jobs, opportunities, college , etc - so that you stayed in the witnesses for awhile ; not doing what you wanted?

The strangest thing I ever ate.... well.... was my ex!
Anyway, I've eaten shark, octopus, swordfish, aligator and squid. I've eaten Kimchi, which is a Korean thingie made out of fermented cabbage and hot peppers. I know I've probably eaten some other strange stuff, but I can't think of anything else right now.
