There is one thing I promised myself that I would never give up when I was in my teens, and that one thing is air conditioning. I was 21 before I ever lived in a house with AC. I had a car without AC as well. In Georgia, that sucks! I am very spoiled now. Every vehicle I own must have AC cold enough to freeze meat and even though it is over 90 degrees outside, my house is 70 degrees right now. I will not have my house warmer than 72. Ever. I don't care how much the electric bill is.

What is the one thing you will never give up no matter how hard times get?
by snarf inwith the talk of everyone trying to cut back and reevaluate their necessities due to the rising cost of products from gas to food, what is the one thing that will never go in your life...a "luxury"item that has wound itself so deeply in your soul you would be incomplete without it?.
my item is a daily frapuccino, those little devils are so delish that i can't even think of going a day without.

Single? Do You Cook for Yourself?
by compound complex indear friends,.
as i cook away, preparing a hearty breakfast before the robust walkabout that awaits me, i recall an earlier conversation with a married friend whose wife prepares him beautiful meals.
if you're a single person, it's typical to throw something together hastily and eat it on the run.

I cooked for myself when I was single, which was no biggie. When I was a single dad with a little one wandering around, cooking was more of a challenge. Now that I'm married, I still do a lot of the cooking. The trick to cooking when single or as a single parent is to prepare ahead. When you shop, buy everything you need for the week. Buy stuff you're actually going to make into a meal; just don't buy a bunch of unrelated items just because they're on sale. I would typically cook a couple of meals on Sunday and then store them in the fridge. That way I would have them ready if I couldn't cook. Preparing sauces, soups and stews in advance and freezing them is a good idea. I still do this with home-made marinara sauce. I make about a gallon at a time and freeze it in quart containers.
My best advice to single people who want to cook something edible is to buy the Betty Crocker Big Red Cookbook. Forget all about Emeril and Rachael Ray.... First of all, the food just plain sucks. Second, if you're going to cook any of the crap in their books, you'll need an unlimited expense account, a passport and a sherpa to locate all of the exotic ingredients required to churn out a trendy meal that even your dog won't eat. The Big Red Cookbook allows you to cook good food that normal people want to eat using normal readily available ingredients. My Big Red Cookbook looks like it's been to hell and back because I've used it so much. My wife has purchased many of the trendy popular cookbooks only to give up on them and default to the ol' reliable Betty Crocker book.

The Hope For Our Dying Home-Earth...An Inconvenient Truth
by justhuman inyesterday it was the day of the global inviroment.
as i walked to the street going to work, the main square of the capitol was filled with small children and their teachers with huge paintings, songs, art work with recycled elements demanding a cleaner plannet.
when the old generation will pass those little ones that will take in charge with all the inviromental education they had they will go for a better world.i'm sure about it, you could see it in their small eyes.

Ummmm..... America has the most strict and stringent environmental policies on the planet. You can't even fart around here without getting fined for polluting. Hell, you can't even light a cigarrette anymore, except if you're at home, at night, with the lights turned out, cowering in the corner, with a wet blanket taped around your head! I think America has done more to reduce polution than any industrialized nation. The other industrialized nations are still polluting like mad, and nobody cares! Has anyone ever been to China?? The sky is fucking green! The sun never shines! You have to wear a mask everywhere you go because of the pollution. How about Mexico City? You can taste the pollution in the air in that city.
In America, everything we make costs more because companies here have to adhere to our very strict environmental stnadards. That's why China's getting rich; they don't care how much they pollute, and we don't care how much they pollute either because the stuff they make is cheaper. If you're really concerned about pollution, consider China the next time you buy some lead-laden toys for your toddler or some tainted toothpaste.

Children Who Leave Always Come Back to the Society
by ataloa ini heard this in a car group one day.
a young single mother said she always heard that growing up.
when she left she was adamant she would never be back, and now here she was.. is this true for the most part?.

I had a very devout, zealous sister explain the "They Always Come Back" thing to me. She told me that the organization was a mental trap. When you "learn about the truth", you know that it is right and you want to worship God in his organization. But, it is very hard to be a JW, so you want to leave. When you leave, you know that you really should be a JW, because it is right, so you make your way back.
In other words, you are brainwashed by the JW organization in such a way that even in the likely event of your leaving, you will always feel uneasy or experience guilt about no longer being a JW. These feelings force people to go back.

Why does a grill have to cost $1,000.00?? That's nuts. I have a humongous charcoal grill that I routinely use. I can grill enough food for 15 people on that thing. It cost me $170.00 and I've been using it for years now.
By the way, if you're not grilling or BBQing with wood or charcoal, you're not BBQing. If you wanna cook with gas, just stick to the stove in the house.

Inheritances....

My father did one better than just feed a CO a meal.... He rebuilt the engine in the CO's car. My father was a mechanic and owned his own garage, so he did it all on his own time and own money and even gave the CO a car to use while his was being worked on. Talk about a sweet deal!
We did have a few circuit overseers that had particular dietary requirements. We had one that was so picky that before the CO came to town our presiding overseer put a motion before the congregation whether or not they preferred to feed the CO and wife in their homes or simply take up a collection so the CO could go out to eat somehwere. They took up a collection!

How Did You Deal With Weirdo Witnesses?
by minimus ini know that some believe all jws are "weird".
but i'm not talking about that.. there are some real weird witnesses!
you know, the ones everyone had in their hall that everyone talked about or laughed at.. we had one 25 year old man who was pioneering and he used to go out to literally every neighborhood in the city.

I always loved the witnesses who harbored secret (or not so secret) prejudices or "unchristian" political opinions. My wife and my step-mother got in a political argument when my wife finally asked her why she was so opinionated about politics when Jehovah's Witnesses aren't supposed to engage in the political process or vote? That shut her up.
I've known quite a few "weird" witnesses, but I think they would have been just as weird if they weren't witnesses. We had one guy who was totally obsessed with collecting Star Trek crap. I think he worshiped Captain Kirk!
