HELP! My JW parents are trying to steal my daughter
by calamityjane ini just phoned my daughter who is 23 years old, and she is graduating from college in toronto this june.
i thought because there were some great flight offers that i would be spontaneous and be there for her graduation and just do a mother daughter thing of celebrating.
well i just phoned her, to tell her that i would like to be there, and she hits me with the bombshell that my parents will be there and staying with her.

My son was studying and attending group meetings while at school. We went to his graduation and he did not. Then he moved in with us for a few months to get free room and board until he got a job and an apartment. He has shunned us since. That was 8 years ago.
I was a terrible failure to him as a parent. I would do so much different in another life. I let all that early indoctrination in him go unchallenged when I left the group. I was lazy and I did not do my homework right away after I left. I did not like religion and I wanted to close the book on that part of my life because it was so painful, but I still had work to do and I did not do it. The JW's did.
Then I confronted him with what I knew at that point. Too little, too late. -

Faith Requires a lot of Disbelief

Thanks for the thread. I had convinced myself a while back that my faith was just the result of my suspending my own disbelief. If my faith was just belief without proof, and I think it was, then in addition to suspending my own disbelief, I had to deny contradictory evidence.
My faith was not my decision . . . my suspending my disbelief was the decision. My faith was the result.
All of it has been interesting. I have made so many mistakes in the past that a rational analysis would indicate that I have a natural ability toward the irrational. A realistic appraisal shows that I have been very unrealistic in many ways.
Done over, I would defer and temper so much. -

How do you cope with stress?

Hi Scully, I have never had any success coping with stress. I have had a LOT of success identifying the cause of the stress and eliminating it from my life.
Coping with stress is nothing more than making a decision to stay in the stress.
Change is they way out of stress.
Nothing causes stress like not changing something that needs to be changed.
Not making change is usually caused by fear.
Fear is nothing more than a vote against me, a vote against my ability to handle whatever might happen.
The opposite of fear is confidence. Confidence in me is "self confidence".
The way I achieve confidence is to try things and succeeding, or trying things and failing and learning from my failed attempt and try again differently.
Stress is like the red warning light on the dash of the car. When it comes on, it means something is wrong, something needs to be changed . . . . or a breakdown is in the future. When I experience stress it means something is wrong . . . . something needs to be changed.
A wonderful sage and author who speaks and writes on this subject is Doug Kelley. Maybe you will look up some of his work sometime.

Witnesses are celebrating the Memorial on the wrong day
by Rihannsu inhi, it just came to my attention that the witnesses are not celebrating the memorial on the correct day.
according to the jewish celendar nisan 14 is on the 16th but the jewish day starts from 6 to 6, so in reality they should be celebrating on the 15th to be accurate with what jesus instructed.. anyone have any thoughts on this?
i find it funny that they are not even doing it on the day jesus instructed... if the above did not make sense tell me and ill try to clarify them even more.

Just a side note . . . The Christians I know do not celebrate the death of Christ, they celebrate the resurrection. In the context of history, the death was nothing special. The Romans were killing up to 700 Jews a day by crucifixion. It was the resurrection that was the miracle.
The Witnesses see importance in keeping the commandment to "keep doing this" (eating and drinking) while they ignore the command to sell all and give to the poor.
If the Witnesses wanted to follow Jesus, they would need to follow and practice Judaism . . . . for starters.
You are right on the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation's error of dates. By my secular calendar, the first day of Passover is April 17th in the usa.

it didn't take long to figure out that to have more independence at home, i'd better be a stand-out jw.

JWs At My Door This Morning

by the time i finished my conversation, one of the jws was standing on my sidewalk waiting for me to get off the phone.
i eventually did.

That Witness was so lucky to have called on Francois and not me.
The Witnesses taught my parents to beat my brother and me. They directed my parents to not allow me to be a normal kid at home or at school. They forced me to sit in long boring meetings on school nights and sell magazines on dirty street corners.
Then they coerced my wife into refusing all useful medical treatment and die a very premature painful death while I watched. They refused to help me help her when they were asked.
They told my wife to leave me and attend group sponsored activities and they instructed my sons to shun me. They own my parents and my brother and two of my sons and they require those to shun me.
They continue to make attempts to divide my wife and I by calling her on the phone and in person. They have called me names and they have threatened me in every way imaginable.
My goal is not to show Witnesses the error of their ways. I could give a rat's ass. My goal is to keep them away from me and my family.
That Witness was so lucky to have called on Francois and not me. -
