Undoing the Damage
by Amber Rose inso, i was reading this thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/150394/1.ashx about psychological damage caused by being raised as a jw.
most seem to agree that yes, jw indoctrination is damaging to children.
so here is my question: what do we do about it?

What have you personally done to heal yourself? I doubt I healed myself. I think it was too big of a job. I had lots of help.
When I quit working for the Witnesses, I didn't even know what my problems were. The worst thing the Witnesses did to me was teach me that I was doomed. That's a terrible thing to do to a kid. My parents #1 job as parents was to protect me and to prepare me for life. They failed. They took me into danger and they prepared me for death. I grew up with a constant feeling of impending doom.
How far have you come since leaving the group? That's hard to tell for me. I've been out since 1974 and I've been working on reformatting my personal operating system since 1991. I'd guess I'm operating on a beta system of some kind right now. I will say I'm pretty comfortable and I feel like I'm a student in search of a sage. -

How Do You Deal With Stress & Depression?
Same way I deal with a toothache, I treat the cause. It's amazing how little stress there is in my life after I eliminate all the causes of stress.
All my problems start and end on the same day. -

Special announcement last night just for our area
by seek2find inwell, the letter was read and it applied to our area.
it seems that a lot of people that attend the district convention in our area are not following the rooming arrangements.
so the letter was strong wording about using just the rooms on the list even if it means traveling 45 miles to do so.

The letter defines the Society as a business directing it's employees rather a religion interested in worship and faith and good deeds.

Can raising a child JW contribute to later psychiatric disorders?
No question!
And financial disorders, and personal relationship disorders, and sleeping disorders, and substance abuse disorders to name a few.
All children of Witness parents I know are defective. The only ones who appear effective are those who are effective being defective, that is, ones who kept working for the Watch Tower Printing Corporation.
You take a fish out of water and those suckers flop around. -

Scanned PDF of Russell's 1st Book: The Object & Manner of Our Lord's Return
by cabasilas inthis exists as a text file in a couple of different editions, but as far as i know it's never been posted as a scanned image of the original printed edition.
it's from a copy of a photocopy, so the clarity is not perfect but it's plenty readable.
kudos also to a fellow jwder who helped me get the ocr to work better.

Additional info on upcoming Elder's School
by truthseeker insorry guys, no post-armaggedon teachings here but.... i asked an elder if those outside of the tri-state area would have to travel all the way to patterson to attend the school and he said yes.. he also said it would be difficult for him to attend as he would need to take 2 weeks off - i said that's most people's vacation in a year.. the other thing he said that bothered him was giving his employer enough notice to take the 2 weeks off.. so, for an elder living in the south, how would they be able to afford to get to new york?
is anyone going to pay their return flight?.
according to this elder, the presiding overseers attend the school first, and then the rest go out in batches.. .

The school's not to educate the elders, it's an inventory. The Society can get a name list of who's loyal and obedient and who they can depend on by who shows up at Bible camp. The returning elders are sworn to secrecy and that adds to the aura of mystical management.
I remember my dad went to New York Bethel Bible camp for 2 weeks years ago. He thought it was the cat's ass.
