There was a tightening up, like after other failures, (much like we are seeing now) there was a loyalty inventory and then a purge that I noticed in 1980 and that became written policy in 1981. I became bullet proof in 1974 but I worked with Witnesses and I was married to one.
Many Witnesses I knew said they never believed the 1975 hype in the first place. They sure as heck had me fooled.

Bullshit in a Baby Ruth wrapper still stinks and this Watchtower isn't passin' the smell test. Jesus didn't show, so he returned invisibly, the world didn't end, so it ended invisibly, but the Society's growth is slowing and now, growth is going to be invisible too. Well . . . if that doesn't add a red egg to the omelet!
Invisible growth? I suppose they'll toss up a few invisible Halls to take care of a few invisible meetings for that invisible growth. I can't wait to read the rest of this issue! Hilarious! -

Alcohol doesn't work in my car and it doesn't work in me. Quitting didn't work for me. I didn't have any problem with quitting. I was good at quitting. I had a starting problem. Quitting is hard, not starting is easy. That's just a deferral issue. I haven't started today. I didn't start yesterday. I do have serious plans not to start tomorrow.
I'm a big enough sphincter sober. -

Do you believe in Sin?
by AK - Jeff inaccording to this report, http://www.ptm.org/uni/resources/ptmupdate/042108/sin.html;.
most americans believe in sin.. specifically, 87% of americans believe there are certain actions that are "almost always considered wrong, particularly from a religious or moral perspective.
" this is how sin was defined in a recent study by ellison research (a christian research firm) of phoenix arizona, which sampled over a thousand american adults.. .

Do you believe in Sin?
Sin has to be conceptual and contextual. For example, if I'm the only human on earth, how is it rationally possible for me to sin? I can't murder, I can't steal, I can't offend anyone. How can I sin? If sin is contextual, then it's conceptual, and if it's conceptual, then it's an invention, and my belief in it is conceptual and contextual as well.
How's that for an answer? -

The problems with my JW family
by Ima Apostate inthis may be a rare thing on this board, don't know, because this is my first post, but i was raised jw and officially 'checked out', in my own mind, at 14 or so, because it just didn't make sense that god would destroy so many good people who are wholeheartedly trying their best to please him and worship him in truth.
i actually did not pray or give god a passing thought for 12 years or so because the god i had been raised to know was no one i wanted to worship.
but here in the past year something brought me around to him.

My dad used me to get access to my sons. He wanted to split my family and he was successful. Today with hindsight, I wouldn't let a believing Witness within 100 miles of my children, especially a grandparent. If I'da known then what he was doing, I'da killed the bastard.

You wrote: "Wondering what went wrong on dec 31 1975!"
It went wrong way before that. In 1973 the Society decided to put their real ideas over the speaker's stage in every Kingdom Hall in the world when they printed up the 1974 year text. After that the 1975 hype was only a topic for the fanatics and maybe the terminally ill people who needed a miracle.
In 1974 and 1975 the Witness people got really mean. Meaner than usual. I quit in 1974 and only attended a few Watch Tower sponsored rallies and sales meetings in 1975 and after because my wife was still working for the company.
Right away in 1976, the denials started. I heard a district sales manager say at a circuit sales meeting: "Brothers, if you heard it, you didn't hear it here!", in a booming voice. Obviously he wanted that to stick . . . and it did. That was at a circuit assembly in the old Coliseum in Sioux Falls. I was sitting with my family on the west side balcony. It pissed me off. What a lyin' bastard! -

Noah's ark - Can't believe I once actually thought it was true
by sam_sane_now inwhen i was a jw i didn't even question that the noah's ark story might not be true.
i didn't realise that it wasn't achievable for a handful of people to gather literally millions of animals - two of each kind - and fit them into a boat where they would all survive for many days.
i didn't think about the fact that if the highest mountain was covered with water then how could plant life like trees and flowers come to exist again, especially so soon after, with the raven grabbing an olive leaf was it?

Think this one over . . .
Exodus Chapter 12
37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children 38 Many other people went up with them, as well as large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds.
Biggest Mathematical Miracle in the World
Moses and his people were in the desert, but what was he going to do with them? They had to be fed, and fed is what he did, according to the Quartermaster General in the Army.
It is reported that Moses would have to have had 1500 tons of food each day. Do you know that to bring that much food each day, two freight trains, each a mile long, would be required!
Besides you must remember, they were out in the desert, so they would have to have firewood to use in cooking the food. This would take 4000 tons of wood and a few more freight trains, each a mile long just for one day.
And just think, they were forty years in transit.
And oh yes! They would have to have water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11,000,000 gallons each day, and a freight train with tank cars, 1800 miles long, just to bring water!
And then another thing! They had to get across the Red Sea at night.
Now if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights to get through. So, there had to be a space in the Red Sea, 3 miles wide so that they could walk 5000 abreast to get over in one night.
But then, there is another problem.
Each time they camped at the end of the day, a campground two-thirds the size of the state of Rhode Island was required, or a total of 750 square miles long...think of it! This space just for nightly camping.
