What I Learned from Bro Lett's DC Talk
by Rohag inwhat i learned/derived from steven lett's dc talk (thanks again, ynot, for providing access to the .mp3 files!).
brother lett - or the committee that produced the talk - really loves food metaphors.well-dressed people, especially children, produce a good witness.if you're an apostate, chances are bad conduct/secret sin/moral depravity made you that way.
apostasy is usually founded on sin and rarely on conviction.the bible is an insufficient - or overly cumbersome - guide to godly conduct.

So, I'd like to know exactly when I went from irregular, to inactive, to bad association, to apostate. What did I do to merit the "apostate" designation? The Jehovah's Witness people treat me the same as always . . . crappy!

Ovation Guitar anyone?
by Simon ini used to play the guitar quite a bit but haven't practiced seriously for quite a few years (and left my guitar in the uk when we moved over here).. yesterday i decided i should get myself a guitar again so i popped into a music store and had a strum on a few.. the ovation guitars seemed really nice and not too expensive.
does anyone have one or have any experience of them?
i would love the electic one they do that can also sound acoustic but can't really justify spending so much so would probably get a regular wood / round-backed one.. thanks.

I've never had an Ovation. I've played with guys who had them and I've played them. I like em. They're a good gig guitar for not having to over worry about back dings. I like the necks too, fast like a Fender.
My dust collector on the stand is a Japanese acoustic Fender flattop that I've had over 20 years. I have several others. My oldest if a Fender Jazzmaster that I bought new in 1965. I still have the Fender Vibrolux Reverb, Silver Face amp I bought new in 1964.
I have a Martin D28 I bought new in 1971 and a 7/8 Martin scaled down dreadnought guitar like the one Marty Robbins played. Can't remember the model #. I have an Alvarez Dreadnought 12-String too. I can't stand to tune it. My fingers aren't callused enough for 12 strings now anyway.
My favorite is the Japanese Fender. -

The position of "Special Assistant" - one step below Ministerial Servant
by truthseeker ina couple of years ago, my book study overseer told me he was considering me for the position of "special assistant" which is a grade below ministerial servant.
my duties would have involved conducting the book study.
i'm pretty sure this has been mentioned before but wanted to know if anyone knew anything about this.. .

How do I ask about or introduce past WT literature in a discussion
by insearchoftruth inmy wife is 'studying' with a jw sister and the sisters husband is a po who is going to come over next week to meet me and answer some of my questions and concerns.
they are also supposed to be getting me a copy of the proclaimers book so i can read about the history of the org, in addition to some other publications.. i know that the proclaimers book tells a very slanted story about the jws, but it also refers to a lot of other jw publications, those of old that are not looked at or even in many cases known about by current jws.. was wondering how i go about bringing the past publications into our conversations, if i produce a scan of one, i am sure that would raise a signal, would the only way be to ask about getting early information by following a list of references and continually asking for the reference???.

After you have the Proclaimers book, ask for a WT CD. You're really gonna have to fake being interested. If you can borrow a copy of the CD for a couple hours you can burn a copy, no problem. Get Don Cameron's book Captives Of A Concept. It mostly uses the Proclaimers book as support. That book's a loaded gun.
The Watchtower owned web site is a good source of referrals to older works too. I'd guess some Witnesses might accept that site. Not sure! -

Theodore Jaracz aware of molestation issue in 2001 before Dateline
by Dogpatch inhere is a conversation with theodore jaracz, key member of the watchtower's governing body of jehovah's witnesses, initiated by alan feuerbacher in 2001.. jaracz knew about the dateline expose' of their child abuse problem at least 8 months before dateline aired.. this confirms that the governing body knew about the dateline program expose' of watchtower child abuse problem.
of course, to be fair to jaracz, he was entirely unaware of the problems to the watchtower that would follow, including the resulting court cases, which watchtower settled out-of-court.
six years later, the time of the court settlements, jaracz was proved to be wrong on his observations as discussed in the conversation.. watchtower had knowingly appointed molestors to positions of authority, which was established in the lawsuits, so jaracz's arguments do not hold water here.

Shoot much higher. You're tryin to separate the pepper from the fly shit. Study up on Jewish history . . . not mythology, rational history. Read the article in Encyclopedia Britannica titled "The Bible". Read The Age Of Reason by Thomas Paine.
Then take apart all the assumptions the religions use to trick people. It can all be done without ever mentioning the Witness group or looking at one of their teachings. Buy the Video A Ticket To Heaven and watch it with her. Get the video titled "The Wave" and watch that with her.
Get everything on coercion and manipulation Randy Watters has available and read it.
http://www.freeminds.org/
Get The video about a girl, Gloria Muscarella, being disfellowshipped by elders, one of them her uncle. Incredible behind the scene view of the reality of the heavy hand of Watch Tower discipline.
Have your wife listen to this meeting all the way through with you:
Judicial Committee Meeting with Rick and Laverne Townsend
Listen as Rick and Laverne discuss the Watchtower's failed 1975 prophecy at their committee meeting.
