I'm glad the site will continue. I've enjoyed the site and now I get to continue to enjoy it. Thanks!
The forum software is my favorite of any I've used. Very well done!

Goodbye to JWD ... hello to JWN !
by Simon inas i announced some time ago, jwd as it is will not continue .... ... but .... it's clear from people's comments that they do like the site and many would like it or something else like it to continue.. one issue was the forum software that was self-developed and not really in a good state to hand-over to anyone but i've been working on that and can now reveal the first release of what will probably be called jwn (son of jwd):.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/.
it is still work-in-progress so not all features are enabled yet but it will allow you to browse the site in a similar way to this one and it is pointing at the same database (although because of the way the caching works, new posts made on this site won't appear immediately).

post 8/1/74/pre 9/15/84 disfellowshipping
by isaacaustin ini know the wt articles from 1974 thru 81...and the seeming lightening on the treatment of dfed indivuals.. how were these changes in practice?
dfed individuals were not shunned?
what was the extent of the changes?

The 1981 policy change pretty much started the shunning of disassociated members here. It also made associating with disassociated people a shunning offense, where to my knowledge, before 1981 it wasn't.
All of these corporate big business religion policy changes have been good for me. The Witnesses were wearing the wheels off my appliance cart and not one of them was smart enough to know how to rewind the strap back into the ratchet. Now I have cart peace. -

Local Needs Talk....Why Are People Missing Meetings?
by bronzefist ini wasn't there, but a friend called and said the local needs part was how the congregation is having a serious problem.
" meeting attendance has never been as low as it has been this year!
if anyone here knows of someone who is not attending meetings please stop in on them to let them know they are making satan happy.

Local Needs Talk....Why Are People Missing Meetings?
They were beating that drum back in the 50's. Same old, same old!
It's easy to see why they stay with these tired old tactics. They work! There were only a few hundred thousand recognized members in the 50's. Counting to eight million now. I'd say that's pretty good business. -

What's Your Opinion of Jehovah's Witnesses?
I think they're funny. Incredibly fun to watch. -

How far away from their original beliefs are JW's?
by besty ini was struck by a quote in a very recent watchtower claiming that wts publications are now part of the bible.
quite a bold statement.. how about these two quotes beside each other:.
we would not refuse to treat one as a brother because he did not believe the society is the lord's channel.

How far away from their original beliefs are JW's?
I wasn't around for the original dogma. I have read a good deal of the early writings of Pastor Russell and the current Witnesses are not even in the same hemisphere as the Bible Students and Russell. My real Witness perspective is the baseline I came to know from age 7 at my first door alone in 1951 to the present day.
From the days of the Let God Be True book era of the 50's to now is a huge difference. In those days Jehovah's Witnesses were NOT a religion. They were a political action group called The Theocracy.
Religion dogma was nothing more that justification to oppose established governments.
Witnesses that I grew up around have always been extremely superstitious and they still are. They believe if they talk to a certain person, take certain medical treatments, or eat certain foods, a goblin will come out of the sky and murder them. They make ordinary superstitious people seem passive by comparison. -

What are you thankful for?
Much! My grandson, my sons, my wife, my daughter-in-law and her children, my friends, my neighbors, and the good people in and around Brandon and Sioux Falls. -

Going out is service on Thanksgiving

i remember going to pick another witness up and his kids were watching an old alice in wonderland movie.
i wished i could stay and watch it rather than go out bothering people.

We went out every holiday. We went on Christmas and New Year's day. We went to cemeteries and pitched grave-side visitors on Memorial Day. My dad was so hardcore Watch Tower that if he was cut he'd bleed printer's ink.
The only time I ever saw him smile was at the Kingdom Hall. There he laughed and talked. At home he was sullen and silent. The only time he talked to me was when he was pissed off at me. I'd hear him giving a "talk" at the Kingdom Hall, and I almost couldn't think it was the same person I lived with.
