"Modern History of Jehovah's Witnesses" PDF! (1955)
by cabasilas inso, what book contained the first official history of jehovah's witnesses?
no, it was not jehovah's witnesses in the divine purpose (1959).
it was qualified to be ministers published in 1955. here is a file that contains the section "modern history of jehovah's witnesses" taken from that book.

Did this web-site help you leave the organization?
by ecuador injust curious, what percentage of people here actually left the jw org because of this site or similar sites?
do these sites really help people to get out?

I didn't leave the "organization". I was never a part of it. I quit associating with Jehovah's Witnesses due to the Watchtower magazine and other publications and because of the rude, mean, Jehovah's Witness people.
I quit in 1974:-) well before Internet days. -

There are horses in heaven according to the Watch Tower Society.
I'd think dogs are there too. -

All witnesses I know, "observe" holidays. To "observe" means they watch. We "observed" fireworks displays. Many with jobs "respect" the holiday by receiving bonuses, and taking paid days off. So . . . when Witnesses I know say they don't "celebrate" holidays, I condone that, while I know they "observe" and "respect".
The one thing the Witnesses advertise that they do "celebrate", they celebrate with disrespect. They "celebrate" the Christian sacraments in their passover play, with "contempt", by most all refusing the offered bread and wine. They turn it into a black mass. -

Hello to all who knew me...
by Joyzabel inas i sit here addressing my xmas cards for this year and think of all the people who have helped me on my jouney this past 7 years and especially the past 3, i thought i would post a thread letting people who knew me know how i am and what i have been up to this past year.. .
it will soon be 2 years since i moved from florida to atlanta, ga. even though it was going back to full time work, i love my job and am glad i have one.. .
i acknowledge that my therapy has helped me to get my mind untangled from being raised in a high control group and from being married to an alcoholic.

Is Watchtower Leadership Burnt Out and UnMotivated?
by metatron inthere is an expression "phoning it in" and that pretty much sums up the way watchtower leadership looks to me across the past several .
years.
the first clue i got was when they didn't bother to start any witch hunt against obvious 'apostate' problems in the organization.

Now, they're a BIG business. In the 50's they were mean and lean and they could move fast. Now they're reactive and protective. Individual Witnesses in the United States are now the fourth party to the Watch Tower Corporation. That's three levels of bureaucracy to filter everything through before it gets to them. That's if you don't count the Circuit Riders.
A billion dollar corporation doesn't operate like a start-up. -

Assuming 1% mortality per year and an average of 6.5 million active JWs, you end up with 300,000+ deaths.
?????????
6,500,000 X .01 = 65,000
What am I missing?

The thing that makes the Watch Tower Corporation's attempt to run a religion stand out as stupid, is their policy of promising tangible benefits to people while they are living. Traditional religion promises intangible benefits to people after they are dead. That's MUCH smarter.
That's why traditional religion is so much more successful than the Witness movement. If there's any failures in promised benefits with traditional religions, there's nobody to complain (or know). Meanwhile many traditional religions I see in my town try to make friends by sponsoring social things and inviting the community, operating nursing homes, hospitals, schools, shelters, and free kitchens.
The Witnesses criticize my good friends in the churches while the Witnesses go out of their way to piss people off. If there's a god directing the Witnesses, she's an idiot! -

Never Forget ...
by sacolton inwhere jehovah god lives:.
perhaps the most famous star cluster on the sky, the pleiades can be seen without binoculars from even the depths of a light-polluted city.
also known as the seven sisters and m45, the pleiades is one of the brightest and closestopen clusters.
