Philosophy and it's creative arm called "religion", has labored for hundreds of years to answer these three questions:
1. How did we get here?
2. What are we doing here?
3. Where are we going?
In my experience, the more sure a group is of the answers to these questions the more dangerous they are.
Hope this isn't in that shit category mentioned above . . . . oh well!

1914 Generation
by starfish422 inwas just reading on freeminds; was asked by a mormon poster on another board, to give a brief history of jw organization and i came across the following (here is the link: http://www.freeminds.org/history/5_eras.htm ):.
"finally throw out their "1914 generation" teaching with the october 15 and november 1st, 1995 issues of the watchtower, which was one of their main playing cards.
but simon says, "it's no thang," while older witnesses know better.

Pete, Your wording was/is just fine. I was just referring to the fact that when the Watch Tower Book Publishing Corporation reads the word "THIS", they explain the verse as if it had contained the word "THAT",,,,i.e. . . . "Truly I tell you, THAT generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur."
Sorry if my post caused you any anxiety. Alan and I have a long history of exchanging posts and ideas and we may just share a segment of a sense of humor.
Good posts. Thanks, gary -

WARNING! The Elders are coming.....!
by Sparks inhi gang.
if you live in england, be exspecting a call this month from the elders of your local kingdom hall if you have been dissfellowshiped, dissociated yourself or had any contact with the congregation in the past.....no it`s not coz they want their mouldy old books back; it`s some special effot ordered from bethel to get you back.....( obviously because their numbers have crashed since that panarama program last year,`suffer little chidren).
i was out shopping, when an elder from my local kingdom hall rugby tackled me.the sod had me cornered in a shop doorway for ten minutes...he told me that this special effort is for febuary only, and because he said it`s come down from bethel, i assume it`s only england.

What Was The 1st Thing That Made You Question?
by minimus inas a youngster raised in the "truth", i had my questions.
but anytime you ask a question that is unanswerable, you are told to just wait on jehovah.
as time passes, i believe that we store up a number of unanswerable questions that forces one to eventually think about everything.

Hi Min, I just ran out of ability to suspend disbelief any more. Not always sure what was my first question. I had many. I mostly really did not like being a Witness. I was embarrassed to tell people I was a "minister". I wanted to be a biker outlaw. That's actually what I ended up to be:-)
The deal breaker was in 1974. The Watch Tower Publishing Corporation was starting to build escape routes for their soon to fail prediction of 1975.
After the fact, at a circuit assembly in Sioux Falls, a DO said from the platform, "Brothers, if you heard it, you did not hear it here!". That was the official party line and it was a lie. I kicked the door on the way out.
Before that, was the district assembly vending machine incident I have written about and the necktie party in the Kingdom Hall back room. By the time 1974 came along, I had one foot out the door and one foot on a banana peel,,,,,, I was down to a couple meetings a month. They really made it hard to stay. gary -

So many of us noticed irregularities and bad behaviors and even arrogance by those in charge of Publishing Corporation sponsored events but we excused those and went on. We even made up the excuses for the bad behaviors and failed expectations ourselves when none were offered by the Publishing Corporation.
We feared to research what was not offered to us. We equated the Publishing Corporation and it's agents with God. We wanted them to be who they said they were. We wanted to be treated like they told newcomers we were treated. We wanted our questions respected and answered. We didn't want those put off and we didn't want to be put down for having them.
Then they angered us. We responded in our own ways. Some of us were quiet. Some of us confronted them. They angered us more. They angered us beyond our fear. Our fear that kept us in line. The fear that kept us silent. We went out and searched for the answers they refused us and we found more. We dug. We were amazed at what we were finding in older publications and in court records. We looked in hospital wards and in prisons and in mental institutions and we found real victims. We found both victims who questioned and we found victims who obeyed. We dug deeper.
We presented what we had found to those who we trusted and loved. Their doors slammed and the shunning and snubbing started. That hurt us and angered us and we resolved to not go back. Then we found each other and our goal was health and happiness. We ended up stronger as we opened the door to new friends. -

How Can You Easily Show That JW's Are Wrong?
by minimus init seems that it's very difficult to convince the average witness that their beliefs are incorrect.nearly all will not admit or simply cannot see the error of their ways.how would you help a jehovah's witness see the light?

Hi min, You wrote: <It seems that it's very difficult to convince the average Witness that their beliefs are incorrect.>
JWs are very aware that their beliefs are incorrect and they fear critics may be able to prove it. As for seeing how beliefs are incorrect, all they have to do is read any 10 year old Watch Tower Publishing Corporation produced book or magazine, or look at how people are treated in their congregations.
The Corporation owners know they are vulnerable to facts. That is why they call a bearer of facts an opposer, a vocal victim an apostate. The group members are taught not to trust their own thoughts. The member's own strength of a critical thinking ability is seen by them as a weakness and questioning of directions and opinions issued by the Publishing Corporation is feared. The truth is called a lie and the lie is called the truth and the followers of the Corporations need to keep that ball in the air.
What is almost impossible, is not to convince the average Witness that their beliefs are incorrect. What is almost impossible is to defeat their denial that their beliefs are incorrect and to defeat their fear that to question the Publishing Corporation is to be disloyal to God, to defeat their fear that to question the Publishing Corporation will mark them and their minor children to be killed by their God.
It's almost impossible to reason with a delusion. gary -

Hi Bradley, Im glad you are doing okay. Many of us lived with a sense of impending doom until we were well into our re-education. When we realized the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation is just a book printing business masquerading as a religion and is knowingly perpetrating a giant fraud by claiming to channel directly with a ghost or a god, we lost our respect for the fears they worked so hard to install into our subconscious minds.
Lots of us lived with that feeling of impending doom as well as disrespect for the fragility if life.
Many of us lived as end timers and did not plan for the reality of the future. We did not save for retirement. We did not consider our safety and health like we needed to. We did not appreciate our fellow man or build healthy relationships. We protected our delusions and superstitions long after we left association with our teachers. We were never really taught to live. We were taught to deny death and life and to prepare for a miracle or our own early deaths but we were not taught to survive life and old age on the planet.
A parents job is to see that the child survives. The parent protects the child from irrational fears. The parents job is to see to it that the child is prepared for life on earth. My parents tormented and abused me. They instilled irrational fears of ghosts, gods and demons and a giant conspiracy between unseen spirits using me as a pawn. The caused me to fear my own thoughts and my own body.
They discouraged me from being prepared for life in any way they could. They sent me to school and then they sabotaged my education by keeping me away from home 3 nights a week every week. They virtually never went to a school function and discouraged me from getting a secular education in any way they could. They lied to me and encouraged me not to be prepared for life and living. When I prepared myself, they ridiculed me.
For me, the fear of impending doom went away after I researched the basis for that fear and found it to be a hoax.
Best wishes to all. Welcome to all the newcomers. Every day I am amazed at how many are leaving the Publishing Corporation and finding us. By now they must be noticing lots of us are leaving. gary

HELP!!!
by truthseekers2 inwe are trying so hard to reply to questions that we are being presented with by family members.
hubby received a letter from his sister yesterday, replied to it, and received another email from her today.
we just sent her info this evening addressing her claim that the society encourages us to research and compare (yeah right) and that they claim to be a prophet while delivering false prophecies.

Hi truthseekers2, Can you bring the JW to the appointment teaching? And ask her to explain it. Then go to the blood medical treatment suggestions. Organ transplants? Generation?
Have you REALLY researched these issues yourselves?
The JW will try to flip and spin. You need to not go with them on a flip or a spin. When you do, they win.
If they question your motives, sources or your personal beliefs, they are spinning and you need to never go there. Just repeat your last question.
You might ask the JW if she believes in religious freedom and ask her to explain what that means to her.
For me, debating with a JW is like getting into a pissing contest with a skunk or trying to reason with a drunk. I hate doing it.

Hi Bradley, Except for this media anxiety, how is your life going? Work and finances okay? Any problems with non-JW interpersonal relationships? Are you free from addictions, health okay? Any sleep problems? Can you make decisions without agony? gary
