I gotta ask myself . . . When's the last time I heard of a company that quit charging for it's product and made more money . . . ?
On the other hand . . . Watch Tower Inc built virtually all of Patterson AFTER the donation agreement started. Check it out. Go to Google Earth and type in Patterson, NY. It's south east of the town. Circle drives and blue roofs. Hard to miss.
Then go to Wallkill, NY. Just updated by Google to about 60' elevation. Very clear pictures. Edited to add: Go to 900 Red Mills Road, Wallkill, NY
It's almost straight west of the town of Wallkill. West of the airport, west of the riv
Those nickles and dimes my brother and I sent in from selling magazines on dirty street corners instead of playing with our friends added up.

Is The Borg Losing Money Drastically Or What???
by cognac inthere has been about 5 trillion talks on donating money.
never heard so many talks on this before... they have said in talks a few times that when the society charged per mag or whatever, the society got a lot more in donations then they do now and the cost in production has gone up.

The Watch Tower is a business corporation and is structured and operates exactly like the business corporation that it is. The business started out as a printed material publishing company. The Bible Students were the readers (customers) of the company.
After Pastor Russell's death in 1916, an attorney named Rutherford, and some enterprising insiders stole the company and changed it's focus to politics.
After Rutherford and the corporation directors were released from Federal prison, the readers were en-mass turned into unpaid literature distributors. In 1931 the sales people were named Jehovah's Witnesses.
The business is very clever. It looks like a multi level marketing business when it's laid out on paper. The structure was modeled after the military. Groups were called "companies", covert (dishonest) activities are called "theocratic warfare", and lower rank members are called "rank and file".
The Witnesses no longer do direct sales, but literature distribution is still their basic purpose. The structure directly above the Witness congregation is run by Watch Tower paid people. That structure looks like any other sales and marketing business. The snap-shot profile fits any pyramid model, from the Catholic Church, to Ford Motor Company, to the United States Federal Government.
The Watch Tower company is currently in upheaval and has been systematically restructuring itself since about 1990. The biggest change occurred in 2000 when the branch and zone took over management of United States operations. -

How to find new friends?
by socialdistortion inhi... my name is chrissy & i have been away from the "truth" for 8 years now.
i married a "brother" when i was 20. i was humiliated by the "elders" in the backroom for oral sex & publicly humiliated but never disfellowshipped.
my husband & i left the truth together after moving away from the area where we lived when we were witnesses.

Run an ad in the paper advertising $100 cash to the first 10 callers. It won't get you any friends but you'll be so busy you won't miss not having any.
Seriously, (if that's possible) I know people who are not real outgoing and they joined a service organization that meets every week like the Lyons. They sponsor projects like parks and education centers and the volunteer work and the weekly meetings put the members in an active social setting that actually helps other people as a benefit.
It's good for the social life and it's great for self confidence and self esteem too. There's something about looking at a park I helped build.

Marley Cole's "Jehovah's Witnesses - The New World Society"
by witnessgirl inwell, i just finished reading marley cole's "jehovah's witnesses - the new world society" book from 1955. i'll provide a few quotes to introduce it in case you aren't familiar with the book.
ray franz in crisis of conscience, p74, 2004 hc edition: cole wrote the book as if he were a non-witness writing an objective account.
the idea was that by having the book published by an outside publishing firm it might reach persons who normally would not take society literature.

We had women at our circuit and district assemblies that would make a 60 year old Vegas hooker blush. The corridors were like a Frederick's of Hollywood show and go. Damn wonder the assembly didn't get busted by the vice squad.

RECENT REVISIONS TO THE KH DRESS CODE?
by navytownroger ini was told by my former book-study conductor recently that a new 'dress code' had been handed down by the wts, because people had been 'getting too casual' with their styles of clothing.
one item he mentioed was a new rule for women prohibiting denim skirts.
and, when a woman wore a denim jacket, she was also told this was not appropriate for the kh.

They've GOT to be collecting material for their own version of the old TV show "Believe It Or Not!".
Isn't denim just cotton? There's something religious about textiles? I think anybody stupid enough to be a Witness should live a life with polyester stuck to their butt crack. Serves em right!
