  Hi Snowbird, good to see you too, not been around much, as i have been very busy, mostly good. .

  This issue of womanly submission gets me very annoyed for so many reasons. Any empirical examination of it on any but the most rudimentary level exposes its total vacuousness, and worse, much worse its attempt - far too often successful - to control another human being because they happen by virtue of their birth, to be female. The most successful societies are those that do NOT discriminate by virtue of race, gender, sexual orientation, and education.

  I will have often challenged the perception of people on these issues and i have always been able to demonstrate the paucity of their argument and that it is so counterproductive. They seem to hold these views almost reflexively, without thinking, as it is their right, when challenged they usually think about their views.

  The WTS is misogynist. To demean another person in this way purely because they happen to be female is awful. To say this adds to marital harmony is for most part utter rubbish. I have known many woman who have subsumed themselves mostly to their, and their families detriment.

  I met a lady the other day who is still in - just - and and said that the she is trying to repair the last 25 years of her life, this because she has gone along with the wts view of woman, and her hubby ( god love him) has exercised his headship.

  It was so so sad, and as i have now discovered typical.

  It is all about control pure and simple. And btw many men outside the wts are just as controlling.

  I totally agree with Spook about Kind of Blue, to me this is a seminal work.

  This Christmas i went to see Pete King at pub in London, the venue was small and very intimate. For me this was a wonderful evening, and so encapsulates the essence of Jazz

  should Elders be held resposible......................

  should elders be held financially responsible for actions and decisions that they get wrong?

  in my very last congregation we needed some form of heating, in the body of elders there was no air condition expertise at all.. this did not stop them buying a 3,500 unit for this purpose, there was at the time two refrigeration engineers in the hall (myself and another), we were not approached for our input into this purchase.. the outcome was as usual a complete white elephant, it did not work.

  3,500 pounds lost.

  The Elders are bound by UK Charity Law when carrying out their duties primarily, and they have little idea how they are legally responsible.

  They are given a great deal of latitude with regards to how they can act with how they spend monies. They may well be open to being sued in this instance, but by whom, and why? Members of the congregation concerned are the ones who have suffered loss, but would they sue them? I doubt it. As for other parties, the obvious choice would be the UK Charity Commission. A person, even a non member could voice their concerns to them, and hopefully they would investigate. My instinct is that they remind them of how they should act as trustees of the congregation, and not sue them.

  I must look up on the duties of officers in Charities again

  Hi Chickpea, hope all goes well, what a courageous thing to do in your attempt to overcome prejudice and illuminate the situation of people who are transgender.

  I read Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, which deals with this subject.

  i'm new to this forum and look forward to getting to know you guys.. just a short summary about me, i was raised a jw, baptized at 15, married at 25, moved a few states away, started fading away about a year and a half ago.

  started doing some searching about some long-standing doubts and completely sure now that this isnt the truth.

  being out is still new and very difficult, but i'm making strides every day.. as i said, i look forward to getting to know you all..

  Yesterday was my second time, we had fun, got to know each other a little. and shared experiences. There seems to a lot of similarities for those who have left the wts, and it can be helpful to see how others have managed things
