  when i first came to this board, i was mesmerized at the knowledge.

  people had ideas and thoughts and voiced them and did it quite well.. i was a witness, i hardly read more than a paragraph at a time.....stopped, answered a planned out question in the paragraph, highlighted and went on.. formulating my own thoughts was one thing, but getting them typed out was another.. i saw all sorts of opionions thrown out there, debates, bantering back and forth........i was impressed to say the least and yes, intimidated.. them there posters had some balls and i wanted some too.. i was careful not to post things too controversial as to not make waves........i got my feelings hurt alot, said i was never going to post again, went stomping off.

  licked my wounds did some soul searching and came back.

  Hi PS,

  I hate to admit this ( i am 51) but this is the first message board I have ever posted on a bit like my first date!

  I always read a lot before coming here, what coming here has enabled me to do is make sense of my own feeling of stupidity for being a JW for so long. I have also found it very helpful in dealing with some personal and family issues by listening to how others have coped and are coping,

  I know that there are other places for people who have similar problems in other religions but our issues are best understood by each other. I also like the sense of humour here.

  How long before you tell people you were once a Jehovah's Witness?

  most of the people i've met since i left don't know that i spent years of my life as a door knocker.. i have very dear friends who don't know.

  i've even had lovers who didn't know.

  my last partner knew, and found it vaguely amusing.. i guess i find it deeply embarrassing, although over the years it's become easier to mention it.

  I think we have to trust ourselves here, as we make new friends, that implies mutual attraction and or interests, therefore as the relationship progresses so confidence and trust in increases. This is different for each relationship, but at some point our JW past is likely to have a bearing in some way. If the relationship is strong and worthwhile it should withstand it,

  I also think that there is a sense of shame in admitting we once belonged to such a group , like how can we be so stupid, as patently we are not.

  Hi Trevanian, What a stupid mistake!!! Sooooorrrryyy, I did not look at info. I think your thread is interesting, because as we leave; our friends inevitably change, as do we, and has been said how 2 explain to new friends who might not understand?

  As I do not consider myself a JW and have not for years I rarely bring it up. If it comes up I always try and show in as a kind a way as possible, why I am no longer there; such as their latent misogyny, anti education stance and their mind control techniques. On a more personal level I point that they are only pro family if you are all in, if not they are at best intolerant.

  By doing this use what may be a ticklish situation to advantage

  for me it is having the ability to think & act in a way that is honest to yourself & those you love - so simple, yet after many years in mental captivity, so beutifully right & joyous!.

  This is so sad, my dad was in WW2, received burns that stayed with to the day died, friend blown to bits next to him, saw Dresden and concentration camp. I only ever heard him speak of his experience on about 10 occasions, he said it was bad enough being them..

  And some Giuliani want to invade Iran.!!!

  my cousin - only 65 - and until monday in seemingly good health - took a walk to his little woodshop and did not return on monday.

  two hours later his wife found him.

  aneurysm of the aorta.
