Quandry, sounds like they are hunkering down and trying to keep things secret. I guess it's a phycho. ploy to make them feel like they are getting "special" information for their eyes only.

My Huge Phobia of flying!! Damn the Wright Brothers!!
by Witness 007 ini was supposed to fly tommorrow but i put off booking the tickets....and now i've chickened out and will take an 11 hour train ride all night...compared to 1 hour flight.
i have butterflys in my stomach and i can't relax.
i don't trust airplanes or pilots!

There are some really good "fear of flying" groups out there. Phobias don't have anything to do with logic. I watch those Aircrash and Seconds from disaster all the time. I used to be on a safety committee and went to a crash site. I do trust the pilots and their training. That's why there is more than one of them up there. Sometimes the fear has to do with an unrelated event in your life, not having a sense of control.
I just avoid older aircraft. Pay attention to that stupid safety briefing and study the card and memorize where the exits are. Mentally practice how you would evacuate. That gives you a feeling of personal control.
Take a pill.

If the society has so much money why are they cutting back on the quality and quantity of materiels? It just really looks tacky. They used to look professional. What's going on with this?
Despite their fear of the internet do you think they will eventually put everything on line and people will have to print it out for themselves? That would save them a fortune but might endanger their existance.

So, I have this conversation with my crazy JW cousin/Jw's wrong again
by dawg init all starts off pretty benign, when she suddenly says "well, you believe man can solve the problems of this world"... she says this because i've ran for political office twice, losing once.
i know where this is going... so i say "i've never said that is our only hope, i just recognize that i live in this reality today, i'm here now, and god's kingdom isn't.. it's the men here now that run things, if god ever steps in, then i'll gladly move aside as i'm sure any man would".
she says something to the effect, that we disagree on that?

I agree with you Dawg. My mom will defend the stupid rules of the society by saying "There must be order" and I reply..."that's just what the Nazi's said". For many decades the JW's had segregated congregations because "their" leaders left things wrongly as they were until the civil rights movement forced them to make a change. A change that was had for the south to take. I can't for the life of me understand their not taking a stand on this...except the borg has historically been a white mans domain.
I have thought about running for my local city counsel because I would like to see some improvements in our community and include the people living here. We are in a great transition and influx of immigrants and it should be a time of inclusion and communication.
Dawg, the more I read your postings the more I respect you and think you are a very fine man.

i pray thru jesus name amen" i was so stunned it was a very short prayer.

My mom insisted that my Dad say a prayer b4 dinner. He would try to catch us when we weren't ready and then said as fast as he could, "JehovahthankyouforthefoodweareabouttoreceiveinJesusnameAmen".

Those sweet Amish people are the worst puppy millers in the country. They call them cash crops. They also have a huge problem will birth disorders because they intermarrry. I drove thru there and saw those towns like "Intercourse" and stopped to look at this beautiful barn that had the boards hung lengthwise so they could be turned open to dry the tobacco. It was hot and I was wearing shorts, top and flipflops. These women came out and stared at me and whispered to each other. They were wearing the full deal including hats. I said, "Hello, beautiful barn." No answer. "Sure is a hot day." more whispering "Have a nice day" I left. Rude people as far as I can tell.

Painfully Long Prayers on the last day of the 3-day Conventions.

uve been sitting all day 4 three days @ this place and u just wanna hurry up and finish ur cleaning assignment so u can go out to eat w/ ur friends, but bro.
special speaker from bethel/or do has to give a one man symposium during his prayer recapping every single moment of the past 3 days.. its like they have this formula that they use to determine how long a prayer should be.

Hey Hortensia. I was there. My mom and I worked in the snow cone booth with a million bees. I fainted standing in the lunch line. It was soooo hot. I felt like a POW.
When my dad would come to the meetings he would time the prayers to see who gave the longest one. Another time this lady sitting in front of him kept picking at her scalp and then looking at whatever she was finding. After about 45 min my dad pretended to pick something out of her hair and popped it in his mouth. My face almost blew off trying to surpress uncontrolled laughter. He was a cool guy.

I have 2 St Croix sheep. You don't have the sheer them they shed. I got them to keep the yard from overgrowing but they will strip your trees. They don't stink. They follow you everywhere. If I had to do it over I would have chosen geese (Pilgrim or Talouse).
I am going to have nightmares from that goat picture.

Elder calling around
by Am ha·a'ret ini'm a new member as i've not completely left the org yet and being a "good lil jw" would never have looked at a site like this previously!
there is one elder in the cong who calls around every so often to "chat" as i only stopped attending meeting a couple of months ago.
i've spoken to him about certain subjects - eg the un thing and the misuse of quotes - but he has no useful answers for me.
