Hmmm...let's see. I have been in a tribal bellydance troupe for 5 years, just recently quit the troupe, but still bellydance.
I am also left-handed.
we have such an interesting group of people from around the world on this board.
it might be interesting to have a thread where you discuss a hobby, something interesting that happened in the past, somewhere you've been, etc.. not deep, dark confessions - just interesting stuff.. .
* i have travelled into all 48 american states that are not named alaska or hawaii.. * for the past few years, i have had a slight walking impairment due to a form of arthritis known as ankylosing spondylitis.

for those who missed the drama, you can check it out here if you wish to www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/140100/1.ashx.
for those who know a little about my past and my mother - she had the nerve to call me today and leave an urgent message for me to call her.
i thought it was about my dad or that something bad had happened since her last comment to me was that i was dead to her, or something to that effect.
Sorry to see yet another good person dealing with this kind of crap.
i keep reading these threads about exposing the wts and sending letters to individual jws.
how many of these efforts have actually worked?
i've read books written by xjws and watched videos produced by them, but only after becoming one.
I don't spend any time trying to talk someone out of a belief they hold. If my sister who is still in the org. asks me about why I left, we talk. It ends up with us both saying that we respect the others' right to their opinion. It never changes her position, nor mine.
did anyone see the information on a recent watchtower study article (w-07 0/01, p. 30, 16) in which a witness who quitted his job and started selling ice cream on the streets in order to have more time to preach, is presented as a good example?
i found it extremely offensive and asked myself: are they really serious or is this joke?
but the worst part is that no one else in the hall seemed to find it offensive, with the exception of a ministerial servant who privately told me it was an act of disrespect on the part of the society.
There were 4 or 5 elders in my congregation that were millionaires or at least very close to being. I used to laugh when they would get up there and tell us that it's not about the money. They could go out in service all day long and never worry about paying the bills. I guess Jehovah was providing for them? Whatever.
the degree of hatred being expressed by some here towards individuals in the jw cult is difficult for me to understand.. why?.
because most of us were jehovah's witnesses at one time.. how did this transformation from "evil, disgusting, murderous, bloodthirsty" jehovah's witness to "enlightened, free, open-minded, compassionate" ex-jw take place?.
were we bad the last day we were witnesses but good the next?.
I guess I don't consider myself "good" just because I left the JW's. I actually don't think I'm all that good anyway. I also don't think all JW's are bad, just brainwashed into believing something that isn't true. That doesn't make them bad, just gullible. obviously some of them are evil, but they would be that regardless of their religious affiliation. jmo
a dropout epidemic threatens america can we reclaim our kids' future in time?
did you know that almost one third of our public high school students fail to graduate?
young americans who drop out of school have little hope for a decent future.
My Mother actually made me leave half-way through the 10th grade because a "worldly" boy liked me and kept calling the house. I liked him too and she just freaked out.
She has since apologized, but it totally screwed any chance of me getting that scholarship I was working on.
I got my GED later, but I am still somewhat bitter about the whole episode.
She also took all of the poetry that I had written from the time I was 9 yrs old (30 notebooks full) and burned it because the elders told her it was inspired by demons. That, I will never get over.
now that you're mentally out of the religion, do you have an expressed goal regarding the witnesses?
do you want to expose the religion for the fraud that it is (like i do)?.
do you want to set up a ministry devoted toward the destruction of everything watchtower?.
I was under the impression that the WTS had already been exposed for the cult it is.
Most people that I talk to about it seem to know this.
I guess my goal is to try and help the one remaining sibling who is still "in" get out. She is very stubborn.
She has no life outside the organization, so it's really hard for her to let go.
it was expected of me to get baptized and at 9 i was.
what about you?
I was 12, which, of course, is the best time. You know everything at that age, right?
I can't really say that I was pressured, except for the weekly reminders from the podium that we needed to be baptised...
it seems alot of members here live in the burbs or city so i was wondering who else besides me lives on acreage or rural areas?
i live on eight acres at the base of the cascade foothills.
a half mile away the power lines stop and the old logging roads start.
I am really looking forward to hot/cold running water and lights that come on with the flick of a switch. LOL
We did get our electricity hooked up about a year ago, I think APS finally took pity on us.

We live on 40 acres far away from city life. I can't imagine going back to it. We actually are building a house on our acreage right now. It's a build-as you-can type house. We are doing most of the work ourselves, so it is taking a lot longer than getting a loan. The trusses go on in 2 weeks!!!
We have lived in a huge army tent for the last four years while we build, it's been a blast!
