Wait, now, I thought Simon was closing down JWD because he was gettin' tired ? How come he's still here and adding features and things? Will others be taking over later?

i know we've had this thread before - but thought i'd be the first on the new board !
some of my top picks as follows.
more to come.. 1. jaws.
FlyingHighNow,
I remember enjoying the movie with Hayley and John Mills called The Chalk Garden.
I've only ever seen that live, at ACT in San Francisco - my step-grandmother was playing the domineering grandmother. Great script.

Well, let's see.
Nearly all of these are movies I have seen more than once. (Do you detect a theme here?)
Some movies I've been thinking it's time to see a second time:

i cannot live without my laptop and jwd at the moment (i have been visiting hourly of late).. .
what one thing can't you do without at the mo?.
mtsgrad.
I'm now living in lovely and talented Willits, CA, up in the Emerald Triangle. On those rare occasions when I'm actually drinking alcohol, it's the local beer. Red Tail comes in several delightful varieties (Mendocino Brewing Company has a branch in Ukiah, about 20 miles away from me). At Christmas dinner (at my son's house) I shared a Fat Tire Ale with ... somebody... but Fat Tire comes from Colorado. Good stuff, though.

as i announced some time ago, jwd as it is will not continue .... ... but .... it's clear from people's comments that they do like the site and many would like it or something else like it to continue.. one issue was the forum software that was self-developed and not really in a good state to hand-over to anyone but i've been working on that and can now reveal the first release of what will probably be called jwn (son of jwd):.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/.
it is still work-in-progress so not all features are enabled yet but it will allow you to browse the site in a similar way to this one and it is pointing at the same database (although because of the way the caching works, new posts made on this site won't appear immediately).
Congrats, Simon - I've just been over to the new site and it looks good. Can't wait to use the WYSIWYG editor on Firefox!
But I have a question that I haven't seen your answer to: Who is going to be in charge of the new site? Don't want to wear you out.

i want very simple hot meal recipes.
i am looking forward to see some of your recipes.
no more kool aid asked:
Do you have a crock pot?
Some people feel that food gets overdone when it's in a crockpot all day. My solution is to buy one of those three-dollar lamp timers and plug it into that.

Chops with Avocado/Orange Sauce
Fry up some chicken breasts or boneless pork chops with cajun seasoning. Take them out of the pan and pour in a cup or two of chicken broth (or bouillon from cubes, even). Heat it up while stirring to get the "good stuff" off the bottom of the pan.
For each cup of broth, take 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and mix it with a little water. Pour a little of the broth back into the starch-and-water to warm it up. Dump the starch mixture into the pan and stir till the broth turns into gravy.
Now fancy it up by cutting up an avocado and opening a can of mandarin oranges. Drain the oranges. Dump into the gravy; stir gently. Pour over the meat and some rice. Serve with whatever vegetables you like.
Meatballs with Caper Sauce
Same as above, but start with meatballs (you can get them in the frozen food section if you're intimidated or feeling lazy, or just make your favorite recipe). Garlic salt or garlic instead of cajun seasoning. Replace half the broth with white wine - or use a splash of vinegar or lemon juice in the broth. Instead of avocadoes and mandarin oranges, use a tablespoonful of capers. Then stir in a cup of sour cream at the very end - DON'T heat the sour cream or it'll curdle.
Tantric Salmon Teriyaki
Take a couple of nice salmon steaks or fillets . Slice up half an onion and several cloves of garlic (that's right - slice the garlic, don't chop it). Start them frying in the pan with some oil. Add the salmon and lots of your favorite teriyaki sauce. Not cupsful, just a nice little puddle of sauce for the salmon to luxuriate in. Cook the salmon just as you would normally. Serve over rice with vegetables. Try not to fight over the fish.

it's snowing outside, i'm still in bed cuz i was told to stay there and wait for something special by my eight year old son and i'm listening to npr ( tom jones is being interviewed).
i wonder how long the snowing will last.
ok, that's the end of my mini ramble via ipod.
It's just short of midnight as I read this thread. My daughter's dipping into the homemade lentil soup after a long, delightful day planting 400-500 vegetable plants; our daughter-in-law just gave her the run of their big backyard. We'll have greens, onions and maybe even broccoli all winter long.
I just had a client a couple hours ago and tomorrow I'll plan some altar work I promised her. I'm trying to adhere to my new rule, "in bed, toked up and reading by ten pm," so I can get up before noon. But I missed the deadline tonight

happy turkey day everyone... the one thing i can be grateful about this year is that i am over a year out of the borg.... that was a huge milestone.. i have only distant relatives close by and wont be able to travel this year to be with my brothers (who live 5 and 8 hours away) or mom (11 hours away).
just no time or money to travel this year.. i did receive an invitation to spend turkey day dinner with a jwder and their family, but this year i think i am just going to coccoon the next couple of days... .
(i am very very grateful that they thought of me to extend the invite.
Ah, Turkey Day.
Last year, we were living 150 miles away from my son & his family, so going to their place for Thanksgiving was a major production. We would arrive sore and stiff and tired from 3 hours of driving (what with the tendonitis and arthritis and all).
But then we took a severance package and the end of an inheritance and moved about three miles away from them. So we're going to amble on over to their house, 3 miles away, for turkey prime rib and créme brulée.
We got plenty of turkey, though. They were on sale for $10 EACH a couple weeks ago, so we bought one and just finished it. Today we bought TWO smaller ones for the same price. They're in the freezer. They'll last us until it's time to buy a Christmas turkey for cheap. We should have our turkey craving satisfied by Groundhog Day.
But, yeah, my son's family are good people. A good time will be had by all.

milk chocolate covered raspberries or cherries.
that and milk chocolate raisins.....the stuff you get from a place that makes their own homemade goodies.
And while we're on the subject of See's – they make a wonderful molassess caramel which they cover in chocolate. Irresistible. And there's a raspberry caramel, too, likewise chocolate-coated.
When I was young, they made something called an "Arab," a little knot of date/nut/chocolate goodness.
If you can't get that, there's always Chunky – raisins, pecans, cashews and maybe coconut in a chunk of sturdy dark chocolate.
