last night i posted a picture of my watchtower jack o'lantern and lyin eyes double dog dared me to take it to the kingdom hall.
sooo................. after the trick or treating was over, we loaded the kids in the minivan and drove to the kingdom hall.
i put the pumpkin on the railing on the front porch right in front of the main entrance.

i realize that not everyone here is from the states but those who are:.
a) are you going to celibrate and/or party!.
b) what are you going to wear???.
I wore normal work clothes and told everybody I was an optical illusion.

my daughter was paired up with a boy from our kingdom hall, at school this week.
they have a research paper that they have to do together.
now that this research paper has come up, the boy told my daughter that he'd call her because she isn't allowed to call their home.
OK, so now their stupid shunning policy is interfering with your daughter's education. For your daughter's sake, take the teacher aside and explain the situation. Don't leave out the religious brand name, either. No reason the teacher can't assign a new study partner. Why should your daughter's grades suffer because her supposed research partner is acting like a sanctimonious <insert epithet here>?

there is danger in people placing all their faith in the written word, if they do not allow it to be tempered by experience.
for instance, i read today that 1 in 10 americans:.
1. suffer from attention sufficiency disorder.
Hey, I fall into two of these categories, sort of:
1. Suffer from Attention Sufficiency Disorder
I have a number of the symptoms, have never been diagnosed.
7. American adults now sings weekly in some kind of chorus
Sang in UU church choir -- rehearsals weekly -- until I left the church this past spring.

i've noticed that this is the first holiday season for many here on the board.
that means there's gonna be some pretty sad xmas trees this year .
so my question is does anyone have any great holiday craft ideas????
I've described this trick before. It starts with eggshells, about this time of year.
Every time you use an egg (if you were going to beat/scramble the eggs anyway), don't just crack the shell. Using a steak knife, chip a hole in each end about as big as your little fingernail. Blow out the egg and make your recipe.
Trickle water into the shell and rinse it out. Also, wash the outside of the shell with slightly soapy water. Set it aside to dry.
Repeat whenever you get the chance.
Around the time you buy the tree, also buy a set of watercolor paints, some different colors of glitter, white glue, and green pipe cleaners.
Cut the pipe cleaners in half. Make a sharp L-shaped bend at the end of each half-pipe-cleaner. Run one through the holes in each eggshell and curve the other end into a convenient hook. The L-bend will keep the eggshells from falling off.
Now paint each eggshell and hang it up somewhere to dry.
When they're dry, glitter them in gaudy patterns. Let the glue dry. Decorate the tree.
Voila! Christmas ornaments that vaguely resemble those glass balls, practically for free!

Well, um. I once got a farewell present from workmates when I left a job. It was the custom. Everybody else got gifts when they quit: briefcases, chocolate, like that.
Me, they gave forty bucks because they had no idea what to buy me. I was all into stuff they'd only heard of: tarot, klezmer music, vegan cooking...
But I digress.
Holy snappers, that's a long list!
If reading this post has worn you out, I won't sneer at a gift certificate from
Do ya get the feeling I'm hard to shop for? Hah?

.
what was one thing you did and really wanted to do when you left the jw's;what you couldn't do because of the organization?.
mine was martial arts.
What I wanted, craved, to do most of all was to STOP JUDGING PEOPLE. To stop worrying about whether God would kill them for carrying the wrong religious brand name.
And I was pretty sure I wanted to go back to being a Gawtt Dayum Liberal, like when I was a kid.
I've done a lot of other fabulous forbidden things since, but I didn't know that I wanted them when I left.

jw book.
the aid book i thought was very good mine is on loan to my dad who is an elder in another denomination so hopefully its still of some use.
barry
My favorites were the Aid book and the Commentary on the Letter of James. Didn't find out till reading COC, a year or two after I left, that the authors of both had been disfellowshipped. (Ray Franz headed up the Aid book team; James Dunlap wrote the Commentary.)
