There is no evidence that all of the languages we see today came about from a supernatural mixing of a single language around four thousand years ago in the middle east.

Consider the following examples: Irish and/vs. Scottich Gaelic; Portuguese and Spanish (the former originally a dialect of the latter); English as spoken by Black Americans, Asian Indians, American Southerners and Californians.

I used to see the jaydubs in our trailer park from time to time -- but not since my daughter was about twelve.
That was the year she thought of an elegant strategem: she followed them from house to house (trailer to trailer) telling all the neighors how awful it had been to grow up as a jaydub.
As far as I know, they haven't been back since -- it's been 8 years.

i've managed to survive 33 years (and a couple of weeks).
what a long strange trip it's been.. in spite of some tell-tale signs of aging (wrinkles around eyes, gray hair, mystified and sometimes terrified by the current youth culture) in some ways i still feel like a little kid who doesn't know anything.
what have you learned since then?
Hm... At 33, I was just beginning to homeschool my children. What a blast that was! The life of John Muir -- building a still out of scraps of tubing and mustard jars -- my 6-year-old daughter learning to reduce fractions on her fingers -- studying Japan together ("son, you do ninjitsu and art, Mommy'll do language and history, the 'baby' can do folklore and learn to count"). Damn that was fun!

last summer i got shafted by a teenager on ebay.
willingly, to a point.
i bought two seventh row concert tickets to rascal flatts for my daughter and i. i paid $125 for them and discovered when they arrived that the face value for each ticket was $10.
