My husband never wanted to, he felt like it was still playing by their rules. I felt the need to just cut the ties nice and clean. But you are still supposed to get a shepherding call once a year, DA or DF. So they really never leave you alone, just keep popping up out of the blue.

What good would a DA letter do?
by dogon ini have long thought of doing this, but could never see any good it would do except make me feel good for a few seconds.
i also feel that when you do this you let them win.
they always say that we told you so, or now he is gone and our congregation is clean bla bla bla.

{13 killed and 7 injured} ...so do you think they are genuine or just looking to forgive themselves?

When I was growing up my dad studied with several inmates at Point of the Mountain prison in Utah. One progressed to baptism. My dad, along with others, testified at his parole hearing as to his "new personality". He was a huge part of our lives as small kids. You know, taken under my dad's wing and all. Then one day his Aid book and other publications were on our front step. He had attempted to rape a young sister and was sent back to prison.
That was a rapist, not a serial killer.

my kid, and cristmas
by DaCheech ini have been able to tell my kids that since we are jw's we don't do cristmas.. to help the kid, we are giving presents every other week until the seasons over, to make them feel good about themselves.. the other day, she starts humming "jingle bell rock".
i told the kid not to do it, since we jws don't do cristmas.. the response was "the songs not about cristmas, but about jingling and rocking".. what should i do really?.
i'm trying to instill things like: "as jws we dont do this and that".

Make her sing We're Jehovah's Witnesses like we had to if we got caught singing a Christmas carol.
Also, if she has worldly friends, tell her the Society says that they are bad association and are going to be killed in Armageddon. Then ask her to look in the Bible for what makes them so bad. This works well for any neighbors, etc, who are good people. We couldn't find things in the Bible to justify killing these people. But I said, "Well, the Society says we can't be friends with them anyway".
No matter what it is, say, "The Society of GB says we can't do it. I can't find that rule in the Bible, but they say we can't, so we can't." Blame everything on the GB and Society.
Worked like a charm with my kids.

What kind of difference has JWD made in your life?
by JimmyPage ini feel fortunate that there is already a built-in online community i can go to where people can relate to having been a jw and where it's okay to express your true feelings about that.
i'm thinking it must have been much more difficult a decade ago.
