Let's predict what the WTS will cut next
by unbrainwashed init looks like there is a pattern of a major cutback every year or so for the past several years.
from soft cover binding, no more subscriptions, 30 min public talks, members only wt magazine, book study meeting elimination.
maybe i missed some others.

Bonnie_Clyde: Combine the Awake and the public edition of the Watchtower. Combine the Kingdom Ministry with the Koolaid edition of the Watchtower.
That actually makes a lot of sense. It'll probably happen. -

Impalement or Crucifiction? Opinions please?
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inas we all know, the jw religion teaches that christ was impaled on a torture stake rather than crucified on the cross.
i have my own views on this and have recently been approached by a friend who also has certain views on the murder of jesus.
from my own reading of history and some recent internet sources, the discription of what the bible says happened to christ bears little resemblance to what impalement on a torture stake actually was.

I have no idea if he was crucified on a stake or a cross, and you're right, it don't matter. Rutherford wanted to create the Bizarro-Christendom, and since they used a cross, he used a stake.
I am leaning toward cross being the correct answer but unless a bootlegged video surfaces on Youtube we'll probably never know.
A surprising number of JWs feel the same way and don't agree with the WTS making such a big stink about it.

To be fair, when the interviewer asks the bogus question about whether the religion is more mainstream, Brown correctly responds, "that would be for others to decide."
But it seems clear that he heard the interviewers' question of "spirit directed" and deliberately said "no, we don't have anyone who makes that claim."
I first heard this clip in the beginning of my having doubts, and it was a big deal for me.

The style of impalement you are referring to is the "Vlad the impaler" sort of thing. Very nasty, and certainly a widespread method of execution when the monarchs wanted to send a message to the masses about what happens to rebels.
I think Jesus was crucified. There are a couple lines of evidence that I use to form that non-expert opinion. First, the earliest Christian traditions dating from the first century and shortly thereafter all point to crucifixion. Second, the Bible mentions nail prints in his hands. Third, the Bible mentions breaking legs as a means to hasten death. Fourth, from a historical standpoint, it seems apparent that crucifixion was being practiced by the Romans at that time, including the discovery of a heelbone with a nail through it.
Now I will grant you that one Jewish form of execution seemed to be impalement, for example, in Esther I believe that's what is referred to. But since the Romans carried out Jesus' execution, I'd think they'd stick with crucifixion.
New evidence is welcome, though.

Yeah that is a classic audio clip, pure gold. A good piece of evidence to introduce to someone you want to deconvert.
"The Society isn't spirit-inspired, right?"
"Right."
"But we've always believed they're spirit-directed, right?"
"Right."
"Yeah, that's what I thought too. That's why it seems weird that they just came out and said they're not even spirit-directed." -

TOTH, sorry to hear you've got such crappy people in your life. I spread the BS rumor to my family but if for some reason anything comes back on me I'd just say,
"Hey, you know how rumors go around. I'd heard it a couple weeks ago, and I told some people. What's the big deal? It was true, right?""Yes but you're running ahead of the organization."
"How was I supposed to know it was a secret? If it was a secret I never would have found out about it! I just heard this is going to happen and I told ***** 'I hear this is going to happen.' If there's a problem, it's with the source that leaked the secret, not with us who found out."
"Well how'd you find out?"
"Heck, I don't even remember now. It was no big deal. A lot of people were talking about it. Sorry you were out of the loop. I'll tell you next time I hear something, 'K?" ;-) -

If The Society REALLY Cared About Gas Prices They'd Implement Program Now!
by minimus inthey are full of sh*t!
if i were a practicing jehovah's witness, i'd seriously take the governing body's words to heart immediately.
since they don't want to add any further burdens on us, i would not "wait on jehovah (them)" but instead i'd follow the spirit of their timely words and cut out one more meeting night and save gas money!

The lack of gas in the first century did not prevent Christians from meeting in private homes.
Russell and his associates met in private homes despite the fact that most did not have automobiles.
Throughout the decades persons have been expected to do whatever it took to attend meetings, including walk for hours, jump over crocodiles and dodge militia groups.
The gas crisis of the 70's did not affect the meeting schedule.
In countries where gas prices have long been far higher than they've ever been in the US, the meeting arrangement was not disrupted.
Although gas prices are expected to rise to well over $4 per gallon this summer in the US, the book study will be continued for the next eight months.
Now we are expected to believe that rising gas prices are a contributing factor to the decision to eliminate a vital God-directed worship session which has been continuously held for over 100 years despite all of the above inconveniences.
Has anything, ever, in history, indicated to anyone that the value of meetings is influenced at all by the availability of gasoline??
"Full of crap" would be an understatement in this situation. I can't believe they had the gall (or just stupidity) to use that excuse.

Everyone has special powers... most people don't realize it's just a natural part of being human.
Heck, sometimes I can predict the future. No, seriously, there are people that can vouch for me. Only a few seconds in advance, but when I am sharp enough I manage to blurt out what is about to happen and then it happens and I get looked at funny and of course I play it up for all it's worth.
Everyone experiences intuition in a different way, but I don't think it's a power that is confined to just a few lucky ones.
Check out this guy.
