  Banned expressions= Pioneers abused me for saying "that sucks or peeved"!

  yes as a young man on 20 out witnessing with the special pioneers one brother said his bible study wasn't home...."oh that sucks" said i......well, you would have thought i said "that sucks balls" three pioneers completely freak out and as a "trinity" start telling me off...i didn't think it was a swear word....anyone else?.

  once the c.o used the term "peeved off" during his talk...well, everyone did research on the word to see if it was the same as "pissed off.

  The rebuke was called for. At the age of 13, I did not understand the meaning of what I had said, merely repeating something that I had heard in the neighborhood. Lesson learnt and never repeated.

  Being Prejudiced

  my daughter(she is feeling much better btw) sat down with me a little while ago to tell me about a conversation she had with her boyfriend over the phone.

  the guy he works with is black and seems he has been calling him the n word, i don't think to his face, but my daughter has heard him say it.

  so she says something to him about it and how wrong she thinks it is.

  I grew up in the old racist South Africa and experienced prejudice in pretty much every aspect of life. I learnt to live with it largely because of the family I was born into. They helped me appreciate that you cannot judge people by their color and assume that all people of a particular racial group are the same. My grandad was white and married a colored lady. Most of their children are married to people of other races and so are very aware of the prejudice that one can be subjected to. They provided a warm and safe environment to turn to when the going got tough. BTW we really were among the last of the major religious groups to integrate congregations. I remember a couple of talks given discouraging inter-racial dating because of cultural differences and of how outsiders would view this. My kids think that that is simply outrageous. They are all married to people of different races and the experience has reinforced our opinion that we are more alike than we are different. Our prejudices are born from ignorance and bad upbringing.

  First saw my wife when we were both 12 years old on a bus traveling to a district assembly. I was smitten and knew that one day we would marry. We were in different congregations. First time that I spoke to her was at a convention in Durban. Started dating at 18 and married at 21. Still together after 31 years.

  What is South Africa like?

  we were talking about places we would like to visit one day and i mentioned cape town.

  sometimes, all the news we get or the pictures we see of another country, are slanted toward what is bad and we don't get to see what a country is really about.

  i was wondering how many on here are from or have been to cape town and what it's really like?

  Hi Sammieswife. Cape town is a very beautiful city and well worth a visit. The weather is particularly good from about December till the end of March when it starts getting colder. So much to see. You can visit Robin Island off Cape Town (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned) or you could visit the winelands on a tour. Go to the top of Table Mountain and enjoy the magnificent view of the city below. The Waterfront development is also well worth a visit. The last time I was there was about a year ago for a week (an anniversary gift from my wife). I was impressed with how tourist friendly the city has become (lots of bus tours) and how easy going the people are. LouBelle could probably tell you far more about the city than I can. South Africa is such a varied country and each city/area has its own unique charm. But just a warning, South Africa does have alarmingly high levels of crime and it is best to exercise caution when sightseeing. Come to South Africa. A warm welcome awaits you.

  i have an unenviable task this weekend.

  i have had to set up a meeting with my wife and my mother because of a problem that came up last week.

  how do you mediate without taking sides with one of the two people you love the most?.

  I have an unenviable task this weekend. I have had to set up a meeting with my wife and my mother because of a problem that came up last week. How do you mediate without taking sides with one of the two people you love the most?

  When I courted my wife, I think that my mum expected her to become like one of her own, call her mum, and enjoy a close relationship with her. Well was she in for a surprise. Although I love my wife dearly, she is rather cold from an emotional point of view and found it difficult to bond with my parents. My parents took exception to this and this led to a very strained relationship between them for all thirty years of my marraige. My mum did try very hard in the 90's to be extra nice to my wife, but to no avail. Dad has since died and mum is now in her late 70's and has become very emotional because of the situation.

  To my wifes credit, she is probably the most easy going person I have known. In all my years of marriage we have probably had serious disagreements on only 3 occasions, She never harbours a grudge, I have never known her to curse. She does not remain angry. She is also a fantastic mother and grandmother. All of which makes mediating this meeting very daunting.

  I appreciate the good qualities in both women and wish that they could come to some compromise.This is just killing me.

  Age 14-16, 1970-72. Best years of my life. Great music at that time. Had my first kiss, excelled at school, had a fantastic social life. A pity the heavyweight PO put an end to that. Also last year when I became a grandfather. 2 beautiful girls who will never be part of the Borg.

  Told hubby I don't believe its the truth...

  he didn't even argue with me, ok.... it's just, i didn't even realize things myself until i actually said it outloud to him... i didn't realize the depth of how painful certain things they do are.... it's like, my heart just turned warm and dropped to the pit of my stomach... i feel awful, all over again... .

  COGNAC- Been following your progress with great interest. I have been fading for the last 5 years and have only recently been confiding with my wife the things I have found on the net. I also do not believe this is the truth but have not as yet had the courage to tell her this. BTW my wife does agree with me about the hypocracy in the Borg.
