Moxy, good point about baptisms.
Concerning publisher figures I think one also must keep in mind how many week-ends a month has - four or five.
I guess, an extra weekend can create some increase.
in november they got 966,528 pubs and 90,542 pioneers.. so, their exploitation of the wtc tragedy and 15 minute.
publisher policy has worked very well for them.. in december they got 968,126 publishers and 89,808 pioneers.
again, a big success in exploitation and 'paper' publishers.. i note that the pioneers dropped by 734 however.. maybe some more mass death will help.. metatron

okay, let's do a poll.. since it looks like many of us are watching the olympics, let's vote on which country has the best national anthem.. i love canada's.
i find myself hoping a canadian will win, so i can sing along to their song.. when the russians win, i get a cold disquieting feeling, since they adopted the old soviet anthem again.
too many memories of the old ussr.. marilyn (aka mulan).
Whatever happened to Deustchland Uber Alles? Do the Germans still use that one?
The text is authored by Hoffmann von Fallersleben and has three verses. The first line is "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" which means "Germany is supreme". Von Fallersleben meant that it is supreme to him against all other things in his life. But from 1933-1945 it was sung with the idea that Germany was supreme to all other nations.
Because the text was misapplied by the Nazis, in 1952 only the third vers was announced to be National anthem.
Actually, in Germany you are not allowed to sing the first vers.

BTW, the meloddy used to be that of "Zion's Glorious Hope", song no 64 in the Watchtower Songbook of 1928

i'm pulling this out of the original thread since people are blowing by this as if it were nothing.. the blue portion appears on page 17 of the june 1, 1991 watchtower, in the article titled their refuge--a lie!, which criticizes "christendom" for seeking help from the united nations rather than jah.. .
"prayer and meditation at the united nations"-- robert muller .
"prayer, meditation and spirituality at the un are fascinating subjects.
Just to put it in the right chronological order: I remember that these articles were talks from the preceding DC, that must have been 1990. So the book may have been consulted in 1989 or early 1990.
the one thing that jws claim is the love they have for one another.
i am well aware of some of the things that have been done in the congregation for members and i believe real love was shown.
in times of natural disaster jws have been very good at caring for their own.
Before I stepped down as a MS I spoke to my wife about it. I told her that this could result in that the brothers are suspicious and would perhaps shun us. (Germans love titles like elder, MS, Pioner etc, when you lose your privilege you lose your reputation. When you step back voluntarily they think that you had to.) My wife's answer was: And where would be the change? We had moved in and the brothers did not really care about us - except there was work to do, then they found our phone number.
But there were also some very kind brothers and sisters. But my opionion is that they were loving because they were the persons they were and not because they were JW.
i was reading via kent's site some of the "to all boe" letters.
i noticed something in particular in the letter of february 27, 2001 about the formation of the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses, a new legal entity.. that letter in part states:we thank you for your cooperation with these adjustments made by the governing body in fulfilling its assignment to care for all the master's belongings.
(matthew 24:45-47. i thought the "faithful slave" was entrusted with the master's belongings not the gb.
This is from the Watchtower March 15th, 2002:
"As in the first century, a small group of qualified men from among the anointed overseers now serve as the Governing Body representing the composite faithful and discreet slave. Our Leader uses this Governing Body to appoint qualified men - whether spirit-anointed or not - as elders in the local congregations." (p. 14)
sorry this is so long, but here is a series of e-mails i sent to the jehovah's witnesses united site and their response.
it has to do with the nwt inserting the word [other]in col 1:16,17 and phil 2:9. pick it apart as you may.
you may need an hour or two to read all of it.. (my original e-mail).
I think he gave you a sensible answer. I think people start to call the other "moron" when they don't know any further.
He explained that the word "other" can be grammatically inserted. Then you started to attack the brackets. I think brackets are a fair means to show that the very word is not in the original manuscript. for example in Hebrew they spoke of "the God" meaning "the [true] God".
Sorry, but but I think the NWT is okay in this aspect.

Look at no.4!
1. Can anybody - following a request and explanation as set out above - use
the library? Yes, provided the criteria have been met and the materials
required for research are not available elsewhere (i.e., depository library
or Internet). Subsequent to the tragic events of September 11th, for
security reasons issuance of library passes has temporarily been suspended.
2. If somebody requested access, for how long will this be valid [weeks,
months, years?]? A very limited period of time ranging from several days to
a week or two. In normal circumstances, this time-frame is adequate since
UN materials are available world-wide.
3. Do NGOs, which are registered with the UN's NGO Programme, have the
right
to use the Library freely without such request for access? All NGOs with
grounds passes have free access to the Library.
4. Did Jehovah Witnesses use the Library very often, as they state now in
their press-release? No, they did not. We cannot even prove that they ever
did.
