Hi,
Does it ring a bell?
It was taken by me from the Stern Magazine from Germany issued on August 13th, 1961....
Clue: I guess 47 years later she wouldn't attract any angels, would she?

i just kind of fed up with windows os.
specially all this virus that recently i have been receiving.
so i have decided to drop windows xp os and bill gates microsoft and go for a linux mandriva os.
Hi,
I do use Mandriva 2008 Spring since it came out and I have been using it for a while now, about 4 or 5 years. In my opinion, just like you said, it is one of the most friendly distros out there and it is getting better with every release (I am talking about the last 3 or 4 releases).
My experience? I do have a desktop that came with Windows XP and I installed Mandriva (Mandrake at that time) and, since them I have been using it nonstop. I must say that, sometimes I was frustrated, however I was certainly decided to leave the MS world behind, so I kept on going. After that, about two months ago, I ordered a notebook with Linux preinstalled (a Dell XPS M1330 from http://www.dell.com/ubuntu preloaded with ubuntu) I deleted the Ubuntu copy and installed Mandriva. Up to now 99% of things work with no problems. The other 1% does not bother me, so I don't worry about it.
It was kind of weird to get a computer without Windows, however I do not miss it anymore.
One very important point: You will have to learn a lot about how things function in the linux world. There is a very interesting and comprehensive site about mandriva, it's called Mandriva Tips for Free and it helped me a lot with configuration questions, etc. Most of the information is for Mandriva 2008.0 and not 2008.1 but the differences are not that big actually.
For windows programs you have several choices:
I guess then, that the first step is to read a little in order to be able to make an informed decision. Also determine exactly what your needs are and how they could be covered with Linux or with a Linux/Wine/Virtualbox combination.
Hope this helps

Hi all,
This is the first topic that I start.
Anyway, I was reading today in the New York Times that religious tolerance has increased in the states.
However, when one takes a look at the graphic that they show. It is easy to see that the JWs are not.
What do you think about this information coming out on the NYT?
The article is here and the graphic here.

well that was a shock, those germans hey, always come through.
whose your money on now?
i would like to see turkey do well, they play with a lot of heart.
Germany only does well when they are NOT favorites. The whole german press had it as a given, that germany would lose. What happened? They won!
But now, they are starting again, just like before the game against Croatia, to think they are great. Somehow, these guys let the smoke go up to their heads pretty fast, and then it doesn't work.
It definitely was a exciting game last night, though!

Thanks vivalavida, but it says it's for older versions of Firefox - not 3? |
Eyes Open,
Sorry, Xinha Here! was incompatible two days ago. However, the developers already issued an update, version 0.13 which is compatible with FF3.0, it can be downloaded here.
On the Mozilla Add-ons page they only have 0.10.
I hope it works for you this time. I am posting with it right now with Firefox 3.0 in Linux.

i have a three year old laptop.. the disk got corrupted, and i don't have the windows reinstal anymore.
god only knows where it went, and he's not telling.. i have decided that i want to just forget windows for this machine, and use linux instead.
the learning experience could be fun, and instaling it and doing the necessary with the corrupted hard disk should be an interesting project.. i dont want to spend a fortune, but what software would i need if any to prepare the hard disk.
Hi Hamsterbait,
I would do as brinjen says, but a would also see what kind of experiences others have had with that Notebook using Linux. Especially since Linux tends to be a bit picky with notebook hardware.
Here http://www.linux-laptop.net/ you can find your brand and, hopefully the model and get more information.
Hope this helps.
I have had very good luck with "Mandriva 2008 Spring" and notebooks.
Gook luck,

Hi - I am also new here - I mean I do not post much but I read almost everything.
Wanted to thank all for your help!
Anyway, to the topic now. For Firefox 3 you can download an extension: "XINHA Here!"
This is the site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1449
Once installed, you just have to right click on the text area and select one of the XINHA options available and compose your text.
It works!
the memorial attendance was announced for 2008 by the do at thisweekends ca but i did not catch it as i was texting another fader who was there.
one thing that i did note was that there was no comment of it being more than last year or a peak attendance.
i would like to know what last year was as compared to this year.. i know the attendance was less in our area than last year.. one .
I know because it was mentioned in a Circuit Assembly here in Germany, that we in Germany had 41 more partakers than last year. So I guess the number of partakers is DEFINITELY going up. vivalavida
.
old timers on the board may remember that i was the first to mention the november 06 blood insert in the km.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/121104/1.ashx.
the same very, very reliable source has confirmed that the book study will be amalgamated with the tms and sm.. this same source recently had a long and private conversation with a gb member.
Hi, I've also heard from a brother the following: "Let's see what is waiting for us in the special letter from the FDS this next sunday. Changes are always interesting! Let us see what happens" He did not elaborate. However what I consider interesting is that we are in Germany in a foreign language congregation. vivalavida!
