Those damn numbers don't make any damn sense. Can anyone explain why they're so inconsistent? They shut off the kingdom of heaven for 72 years, and there should only be replacements (according to the WT). Have they ever tried to explain the fluctuation in numbers? Or were they hoping nobody would notice?

NEW "annointed" since 1935 - hilarious!!!
by hamsterbait ini counted up the deaths/ new partakers over the 71years 1936 to 2007.. i assumed 70 as the average lifespan, which means we can reasonably expect a decline of 1.43% each year.. those dead: 14 707 new partakers: 52 312. .
average deaths each year: 207. average new partakers each year: 737.. this gives a combined total of memorial partakers between 1936 - 2007 of 66 839. according to the witchtower of 1988 15/12 there were 27 006 partakers in 1936. smell anything yet?.
1: where those dying (3 figures) exceeded new partakers (2 or single figure) 16 years out of 71.. 2: at no point did the number of deaths in a year exceed 561.. 3: lowest number of deaths 122 in 2003. lowest number of new partakers 3 in 1988.. 4: highest deaths 561 in 1938. highest number of new partakers 10 677 in 1937.

Did you read the whole Bible when you were a JW?
by outofthebox inafter an informal poll in my congregation (and many awkward responses) i found out that almost nobody had read the whole bible ever, not even the elders (surprise!).
brothers and sisters with 20, 30, 40 and 50 years as jws don't know what the bible says.
so, if god decides that a test is coming, will they pass it?

Nope I haven't gotten around to reading the whole thing. I've read Genesis, Exodus, Jonah, Matthew, Mark, and Revelation. I especially liked Revelation. I didn't understand a damn thing, but I'm sure it will have a prophetic completion sometime in the future.

I learned that God's own people were some of the most screwed up people on Earth. Take David, for example. God finds favor in him from when he is young, he's blessed with Ass-Kickery, then when David grows up and becomes king, he goes off to his balcony, sees a married woman that he wants, takes her, kills off her husband, and then he finally realizes what the hell he just did (after a prophet of God had to come in and explain it to him). He was a decent guy for the most part, but what I will never understand is how after everything he had seen and done, he went off and did something like that.
Overall, I've learned that everyone is imperfect and we shouldn't be followers of men.

What do you mean we can't pick on him? He puts up an internet website against "Mother's" wishes, and we don't have the right to correct his "course"?

144 000 blasted by the MATH (WT lying again)
by hamsterbait ini just took nathan natas chart for numbers of memorial partakers since 1935.. i worked out that on average 823 new partakers have been added every year since 1936, whilst on average 716 have been dying each year.. what is especially interesting, is that when the total of new partaker numbers almost exactly matches that given in w96 15/8 p31 for 1935, is in the year 1995 - they year they began to deliberately create the fog around the "generation" teaching.
(i used actual figures, not averages here).
i am now convinced that they have been paving the way for the feb 15 noolite since then.. i disregarded the figure for 1935 itself, since the witchtower gives two figures for partakers -.

FF, I'm sure that there are more than 1000 that got it wrong. For example, I know someone who told me that his dad claimed to be of the anointed, and then he wasn't, and then he was, and now he says he's not. His dad is like 92 years old, I think he's just senile. But what I always think about is the fact that before 1935, Russell and Rutherford were promoting that God was collecting all of the anointed first. Weren't all JW's back then automatically told they were going to heaven? It was only until more and more people were coming in that Rutherford had to figure out how to create a separate class, i.e. "great crowd", to try to explain the growth.

Jesus, Pharisees and Jehovah's Witnesses
by TD inin an article entitled "pharisee nation," american peace activist and jesuit priest, john dear wrote the following:.
"we have become a culture of pharisees.
instead of practicing an authentic spirituality of compassion, nonviolence, love and peace, we as a collective people have become self-righteous, arrogant, powerful, murderous hypocrites who dominate and kill others in the name of god.

Acquire some "common sense" ... the WBTS way
by Frequent_Fader_Miles inaccording to the wbts, common sense is quite uncommon in today's world.
http://www.watchtower.org/e/20050515a/article_01.htm.
they then go on to give 3 simple steps to obtaining it:.

What drives me nuts about witnesses is that they put all of their time and effort into spreading the watchtowers and awakes with no regard, most of the time, for upbuilding their own life and family. Where'd the common sense go? Some put off getting a decent job, or even buying a decent home to live in. (my dad refused to buy a more livable home because "the end" was coming soon. he wouldn't even add insulation to it.)
In my case, I had the common sense to work overtime if it was going to help better the lives of my wife and son. I felt better knowing that I was working towards something instead of empty promises.

NWT? Why a different bible?
by 4mylove inwhat is the common justification given by witnesses as to why they have a different bible?
a friend once told me that it was because the other versions of bibles weren't translated accurately and things had been changed.
at this though, she also told me that should i decide to study, i could use my own bible.

The WT needed their own bible to further separate themselves from "Christiandom"... LOL, wasn't that obvious?

What JW Beliefs Did You...
by Abandoned inwhat jw beliefs did you make up for your own sanity?.
for me it was regarding the flood.
instead of believing that god had destroyed millions of people, i imagined that because of all the violence, by the time the flood came, the only people besides noah and his family that were still alive were the nephilim.

I also always wanted to believe that JW's weren't going to be the only ones saved... It seemed strange that only roughly a couple of million people would be saved versus billions...
(woo-hoo first post!)
